As much as I would like to see Pearl Jam play Fenway, I think it would be a longshot. I know Theo loves the band, but unfortunately the ownership focuses on the interests of an aging group of season ticket holders. Some great bands have played Fenway (Rollings Stones, Bruce, Buffett, Police), but they are from a previous generation. Sure Dave Matthews has played, but I feel like they are kind of a neutral band. Neal Diamond just plain sucks.

I think another problem is that in order for live shows to occur at Fenway the ownership needed to get permission from the surrounding community. I remember reading in the Boston Globe last year about how the community was upset because they were under the impression that only one show would be played a year. Already that is changing with multiple live shows taking place at Fenway last summer. In addition, there is an early curfew that comes with playing Fenway. Bands have to start early and be done by no later than 10:30. I can't imagine a Pearl Jam show ending that early and would rather have them play The Garden or Great Woods. At least then they could play until 11:00-11:15.

Every year I hope that bands like Radiohead, Pearl Jam, etc are booked at the venue, and every year they are overlooked for "safe" acts. I don't think a band has played there that has any profanity either.

Who knows though. With Phish playing last year it may open the door to other acts. I agree that it would be a memorable show, but I would rather not have to have Pearl Jam conform to the rules and regulations that come along with playing Fenway Park.

Not sure what the official rules of Fenway are but I wonder (hypothetically) if Pearl Jam played, could they begin the show at 7:30/8pm and be done at 10:30? I mean most Sox night games start at 7 so I can't see how this would be a problem.

they just start the show earlier that's all.. that's what DMB did for their two fenway shows..

i'm a lifelong sox fan... and a pj fan... but them playing fenway wouldn't be just like 2004 like someone else said... not even close

i get the novelty of them playing there... but now that someone plays there every year... it's no big deal

personally i'd rather see them in a smaller place


and i'm still not convinced they can sell it out... which i think is a big reason they haven't been chosen

for them to fill fenway... you're going to need a lot of people whose favorite song is either jeremy, last kiss or betterman

and that will just kill the total energy of the show


look at night 3 in philly.. the casual fans were pumped off the world series excitement

night 4?? i've heard many comments about people checking their phone all night for scores...

hahahahahaha...yeah...he does it all the time....Ed's a top notch showman...he knows what the crowd wants to hear!

but you have to remember....they play at least 2 hours every show!....with a lot of bands you're lucky if they play for more than an hour.

and i was not at all complaining about the show they put on... i know it's a masterpiece each time.. usually 2 hours or more... i was just commenting on his comments

so ... in comparision to other bands... you're right Ed is speaking the truth

i know it has happened a few times - LA, Hawaii, DC

but I don't konw that it would have a Fenway flavor to it like the Stones, DMB, and Phish posters did

Hi there, I figured this would be a good place to say hello first and kind of introduce myself.

I live in Andover, and while a lifetime fan, I've only gotten to see shows in 06 and 08, and just joined 10c. Not sure why the delay in joining ... distractions I suppose. I was making plans for EV in Albany, but the gyst I get is that is not happening in lieu of an East Coast PJ tour?

anyway, got the EV single today and I wanted to drop in.

What's up kid? Welcome to the board! You came to the right place my friend...whole bunch of fellow massholes in this thread. You'll find out (if you haven't already) that U R A Crazy Breed is a surly MFer who loves talkin shit on the board...lotta funny stuff on this thread. Sounds good, and after getting a Garden and a Comcast Center (notice it's still labeled Tweeter on the 08 setlist?) show in, Fenway would complete the perfect trio for me.



I do have a confession to make.... I was born in Philly and lived there for most of my childhood. When it comes to sports I still root for the Phillies, Eagles and Sixers. I pretty much disowned the Flyers and am more of a Bruins fan now. Hard to support a team of thugs, you know?

In any event, I still follow the Red Sox (hard not to in these parts) and root for them most situations. You could say they're my favorite American League team.

That's cool with me man. My roommate in college was a Mets fan and we got along fine. As long as you hate the Yankees, you're ok in my book.
