...do I need to continue? Dare I say that if you do not like 'No Code' you're legitimately insane."P-E-A-R-L J-A-M is priceless to me."0 -
maybe some of you "noobs" werent around for the actual release of this album!
I WAS!
i counted off the days on my calender that whole summer of 1996....i was 15yo at the time....
When release day came it was the most dissapointing day ever!
After having 10/vs/vital then No Code, HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT!
Aug 27 1996 went down as one of the most DISSAPOINTING days in rock music release of the decade! (millions felt the same) Shit i remember MTV doing a piece on it, and interviewing peop in the street, EVERYONE HATED IT AND WAS DISSAPOINTED!
I stilll listened to it, over and over again...but in reality all it was, was an album to "pull back" from the masses....and it accomplished that0 -

first off, i'm not a "Noob". Secondly, I also bought this record at midnight when I was 18. Thirdly, when I heard it, I knew that it was my favorite PJ record up to that point. Guess what...it still is!I LOVE MUSIC.

it was a disapointment to all the fans looking for another 10/VS album...for me..it solidified my fan status for ever...it's my favorite PJ album and nothing less than a masterpiece...i was glad when the masses jumped off the bandwagon..it gave me room to stretch my legs.0 -

I hear ya...I remember listening to it for the first time and being a bit disappointed...its still down the list of ranking my love of PJ albums...although I do listen to it more than Riot Act and slightly less than Binaural....Thankfully Avocado grabbed me by the balls on first listen and this was the first time since Yeild that I wasnt a bit disappointed with an album (bar comeback and parachutes - for me, both of these broke the flow of the album and I dont think I will ever warm to them)...but as someone else said, each to their own. :twisted:I need a coffee!0 -

are you saying you were let down by no code ?, which is probably the most magnificent, spellbinding piece of music ever to grace the industry......Pearl Jam, a group filled with pride, passion, and intricate musicianship. Their music is full of subtle textures, rich color, soul-searching power, imagery, and eerie dissonance.0 -

If Pearl Jam had not done what they did as far as No Code goes, they would almost certainly not be around today for all you whiners to complain about an album YOU HAVEN'T EVEN HEARD!
Since I am a fan since 1998, i would not call myself a "noob" and since I was 11 when No Code came out, it is not surprising I was not into PJ yet. Yield is what made me fan, and it remains #1 for me to this day. I grew as a Pearl Jam fan fairly quickly, and by August of 1999 I had all of their albums except for 1. No Code. For some reason, which I cannot explain, I decided maybe there would be just one album I didn't buy. And then on August 24, 1999 (as confirmed by the sticker on the album) I bought a used copy of No Code. I don't know why I waited that long to buy it or what I was thinking, but I am sure glad I finely did. I think Off He Goes has to be one of their best songs, Red Mosquito rocks in a whole new way for them, Sometimes and Around the Bend begin and close it out so beautifully and perfectly, Who You Are and In My Tree allowed Jack Irons to shine with something new for the band. I can understand how at the time, some people, who wanted more Even Flow and Alive, might have been let down, but looking at the album on it's own, I think it is a great piece of music, and hopefully whether the new album is 60 minutes long, or 20 minutes long, I'll be saying the same thing in a few months.words seem so out of place.

I certainly wasnt looking for another EF or Alive but IMHO Off He Goes is one of the most boring PJ songs around....when its played live, it breaks the flow of the gig and you always hear people talking during it :roll:I need a coffee!0 -
