Amazing episode tonight. This is going to be a great mini series. The beginning of this series is moving much faster than band of brothers. I can not wait until next week.

the gun has no safety switch.
once the clip is inserted into the chamber it is ready to rock.
dad had one that he bought.
it was a blast to shoot.
i remember hearing about M1 thumb.
and it is true, you could easily smash a thumb.
after the last shell has been fired the clip comes flying out and makes a pinging sound when hitting the ground.
you could take a bucket filled with sand and dump it into the chamber and it would still fire.
Doesn't the M1's history date back to WWI as well???

Anyone read anything else by Ambrose? Are the two that The Pacific is based on decent reads? I can't afford HBO either, but I'll get my hands on The Pacific...

Yeah, fantastic episode last night. I had read one review that said the series starts off sort of disjointed (I thought the first episode lacked direction and was kind of jumping around), but to give it a chance to settle into the characters. I thought that was accomplished last night. That sequence about Basilone and what he was able to do was outstanding.
I am loving this series. Part 2 was great. I don't get the kid Eugene Sledge yet. It's obvious he is one of the 3 main characters but in 2 episodes all I've seen is him being checked out by a doctor. I am sure this is leading to something important in the series as I've seen clips of him in battle. Is he not fit to fight in the war yet? I obviously haven't read the books this is based on just curious what is going on with this character.

i may actually watch episode 2 again at least twice this week just to keep it straight. great ending, and a fitting tribute.
also, in episode 1, i also would have thought they would have played a little bit more on that japanese soldier who was crying and taking fire in the water just to show the other side of it a little bit. horrific and tragic, but a big part of the story for the Empire. still no complaints though...a great show.

that girl was smokin hot. both girls that were featured actually. loved the prologue from the Marine who talked about going to Oz and the experiences. A complete departure from episode 2...wasn't expecting that. looking forward to next week.

Another winning episode. I am not as familiar with Leckie as I am with Sledge. Looks like he gets into some trouble next week.

And they changed tactics after that so obviously didn't work. Starting with Peleliu they adopted the new strategy of fortified defenses in caves and tunnels and fought a war of attrition rather than continuing with the banzai charges.
Some great moments in part four. I enjoyed the emotion from watching the one guy choke the other guy to death and the conversation between Leckie and the guy he knew in the "hospital"
The battle sequance they featured from part 5 looked crazy. Can't wait for it.

I knew how that relationship with the greek girl would end, but man that feeling must have sucked.

On a side note today we watched Saving Private Ryan on a 54 inch flat screen. Holly cow that was awesome!!!!
