I'd love a small town Canada tour. Seems fitting after rewarding the mid-west USA this fall. I'd love for some Atlantic Canada dates ….and then small spots in central to western Canada. I know that we've been a bit spoiled in and around Vancouver, so I'm more than happy to make the trek if it means St. John's or maybe even Saint John (or Moncton or Fredericton) gets their dues.

Been spoiled around Vancouver, but they should definitely try to make some other city in BC. Would be pretty interesting to see what would happen if they played Prince George or something!

I would hope it would be Victoria. Close to Seattle and 300k people in the area (Which I think is the biggest population outside the Greater Vancouver area). Our Arena is small but I'm sure they could rock it out....
I really can't see them doing either though. For most bands that can sell out NHL sized arena, "Vancouver" is as close at they get. PJ tours get smaller, and the 2011 Canadian tour was smaller than the 2005 one, so I doubt we'll see them doing smaller places, when the current trend is full sized arenas and smaller tours.
the White Stripes did it right in the summer of 2007. PJ needs to do that. But unfortunately, Canada is an extremely expensive place to tour. So much real estate between cities, and 8 months of the year we're a fucking frozen block. I can't say I blame bands who don't want to go coast to coast here. Winnipeg is lucky in that we're smack in the middle, and so close to the border, and a fabulous vendue, that we get more shows than most non-Vancouver/Toronto/Montreal cities. No one used to come to Winnipeg Arena except Metallica. Now with MTS Centre, we get EVERYONE. Thank you Chipman family. =D>

The Hip did something pretty cool a few years back. They played smaller venues, with 5 night stands at each. They also skipped Winnipeg one year and went to Brandon instead. I like the idea of a bigger band bringing a buzz to a smaller city. I don't know why more bands don't hit Brandon. It's got a pop of about 50,000, and is right on the way West on the bank of the Assiniboine River. Ed could canoe from Winnipeg to Brandon. Into the Wild: Canada.

The Hip are a bit different. They're pretty big in Canada but relatively unknown outside of Canada. IE if they play outside of Canada I think it's generally small venues (like clubs/bars) or an early set at a festival (I think I remember them playing one of the Woodstock revivals in the late 90s).
How cool would it be to see the Hip open for PJ? that'd be killer
With Pearl Jam I don't think it's about doing it right, it's about playing for as many fans with as little tour dates as possible... lol. Pearl Jam doesn't tour near enough to even get tours half right. It doesn't seem to be in their mantra. It's too bad. You see Springsteen knock out big tour after big tour. Every couple of years U2 knocks out some pretty big tours. Foo Fighters are always playing.. but PJ has really pulled back from touring (and they were never that big at touring in the first place). I think this lowers the chance of seeing the band play shows at smaller venues. If they're only going to do 10 to 30 shows a year, they seem to make them want to count.
You can't rule out small shows though. They still seem to play a smaller Arena from time to time (it's just something they don't do a lot of).
A warm-up show in Victoria would be totally doable. They haven played here since 91 or 92 I don't think.
that was my point. The Hip are huge in Canada, and they did play smaller venues for a 5 night stand in Canada. Sure, it's not ideal for PJ to do that. It would make their tour 5 times longer. But if the ever wants to stop playing huge arenas and maybe get a little more intimate with their fans, that would be a really cool thing to do.
Oddly, a friend of mine was in London UK several years ago. The Hip were playing sold out arenas in Canada, and they played a little bar in London. She said they absolutely SUCKED at that small show. It's so interesting to me that a band who sells 15,000 tickets in Winnipeg can't sell 500 tickets elsewhere in the world.

yeah, nobody knows the Hip outside of Buffalo and Northern New England.
I went to a club-type show in Philly once and it was great. I dont think 1 person there was from Philly. All Canadians, Buffalonians, and New Englanders. Great, awesome show too
and I totally understand why the band would not want to tour that much anymore. I hate being away from my kids for a weekend (my girls are the same age as Ed's I believe). I wouldn't want to be away from them for weeks at a time if I could help it either. Nor would I want to drag them on tour for that amount of time.

Saw the Hip last year at a couple club shows in the Netherlands and they were sold out both times. There were a lot of Canadians in attendance, but also lots of Dutch people. Way better than seeing them here in Canada at a big arena or festival where you don't have much of a chance of being close to the stage.
