Happy 47th Birthday Bono...
Showbiz Ireland, May 11, 2007
The Last King of Ireland, Bono, struck another year off the mortal calendar
on his meteoric approach to half a century yesterday. With only three years
left before he hits 50, he sure hasn't slowed down...
We've been getting away with this whole ShowBiz Ireland thing nigh-on eight
years now, during nearly a decade of sticking cameras in celebrity's faces
we've picked up on their habits - such as Bono hitting Lillies Bordello with
his mates Guggi, Gavin Friday and Simon Carmody on his Birthday night each
year...
So par-for-the-course, there we were out in the rain last night with cameras
at the ready to wish Bono a Happy 47th Birthday with a succession of
flashing light bulbs. But when he hadn't turned up by around 2am our
die-hard staffers called-it-a-night. Apparently he went for a romantic meal
somewhere else with his wife Ali and never bothered to tell us... The cheek
of some people!
We're not too out-of-sorts with the U2 singer as we got ample photo opps
with him last week as he partied in Lillies with Simon Carmody and also when
he turned up at Dublin Castle with the stunning Queen of Jordan, Rania
Al-Abdullah, on his arm to present Gege Katana with the Frontline Award for
Human Rights work in the Congo.
As the Knighted-One breezed through the press gathering he let it slip that
The Edge was not too happy about him attending the Awards ceremony as they
were right in the middle of the writing process on their next album in their
Dublin studio... We all know The Edge wears the trousers in that
relationship. Meow.
After an impromptu press conference and a few snaps with Gege, Bono was
whisked out the back door of Dublin Castle where a few school girls let some
Beatles-esque high pitched shrieks as he greeted them like Rock's
International Ambassador. He's still got you know? Never lost it baby,
never...
Some autograph hungry U2 fans were also waiting for Bono at the back door
with pages and pages of mulleted 1980's photos for him to sign. Oh we could
feel the crrrrrrrringe in the air as he scribbled on those old embarrassing
snaps. It could have been worse, at least no one asked him to sign a cowboy
hat! Ahem, don't mention the War...
So Mr. Bono turned 47 yesterday, we'd like to take this opportunity to wish
him well and hopefully he won't forget to send us out an invite for his 50th
Birthday bash. Apparently the Phoenix Park is just about big enough to house
the party. Well, if it was good enough for The Pope!

The Edge Gets His Kicks With Pearl Jam, Imogen Heap
Posted May 9th 2007 3:00PM by Steve Baltin
Filed under: Exclusive, News
After more than a quarter century in U2 -- a band that's achieved
seemingly everything one can in music: Grammys, sold-out world tours
and enshrinement in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- the Edge tells
Spinner that recapturing the euphoria of his early performing days
becomes increasingly difficult. But that doesn't mean the guitarist
doesn't still know how to get his kicks.
"Seeing [Arcade Fire] in this little venue called the Olympian Theater
in Dublin, was definitely one of those events where you just go, 'Yeah,
this is what it's all about. This why I do what I do,'" he says. "Or
the Secret Machines, who came with us for part of our American tour.
Another recent moment was seeing Pearl Jam -- totally on fire. I'm a
big fan but to see them in full flight was amazing. It's not that it
happens rarely but it's always great when you have one of those moments
when you just go, 'Wow. I'm one of the luckiest people alive. This is
what I get to do.'"
While live shows certainly invigorate the veteran rocker, recordings
aren't out of the question. Enter British chanteuse Imogen Heap. "'Hide
and Seek' freaked me out when I heard it, it's so beautiful," Edge
says. "I've known her work for a long time, but this song is just
spine-chilling. There are certain songs that when you're driving in
your car and you hear them for the first time, you have to pull over.
You can't believe what you're hearing. That song is one of those."For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside

TURNING UP THE PRESSURE...
May 15, 2007
With the G-8 Summit just around the corner, Bono, Bob Geldof and others
released a DATA report today indicating how the G-8 countries have
fallen behind on promises to increase aid to Africa. You can read an
Associated Press story at the Washington Post web site, but also check

U2 on the big screen
By Charles Ealy | Friday, May 18, 2007, 09:46 AM
Got up to see a movie at 8 in the morning.
Not a good thing when you haven’t had coffee. But this one rocked.
It was “U2 3D,” a 3D concert film featuring U2. Yep, the title is
self-explanatory. It was only about an hour long, but it was like
having the best seat in the house at a U2 concert. Not a bad thing, at
all.
Quite amazing, with shots of the crowd coming into your face, Bono’s
hand reaching out to you and lots of special effects. It’ll probably
make a great midnight movie in the States, especially if you’re in the
right mind-set and ready to get revved up to rock ‘n’ roll.
It reminded me of my college days, listening to “Dark Side of the
Moon,” but quite a bit more upbeat and not so sleep-inducing.
More to come later today and tomorrow, with Leo DiCaprio’s “The 11th
Hour,” Julianne Moore’s “Savage Grace” and the Coen brothers’ “No
Country for Old Men.”For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside

This is great news. I guess they did plan to re-release all those old VHS's on DVD then. I'm extremely excited for this.I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

U2'S MYSTERIOUS RECORDING SESSIONS
May 30, 2007
USA Today's breaking news blog, On Deadline, has a post today with
reaction from Bono to new U.S. funding proposals to fight AIDS in
Africa. No disrespect to that topic, but reading the post went like
this for me:
"...blah-blah-blah ... blah-blah ... a telephone interview from Fez,
Morocco, where he’s recording with his band, U2 ... blah-blah-blah..."
Say what?!? Fez, Morocco, is where U2 shot the "Mysterious Ways" music
video, and this is the first I've heard of them working in a studio
there. Wowser. Cool.

The New York Observer
April 24, 2007
It may not be as grand as Bono’s I.M. Pei–designed duplex across the park,
but U2’s longtime manager, Paul McGuinness, and his wife Kathy have bought a
fifth-floor, six-room apartment at 40 East 62nd.
They paid $3.25 million, according to city deeds, buying from Michael and
Jane DeFlorio. The contract was signed last year, closed in February, and
was recorded in public records this month.
The apartment’s living room and chandeliered dining room run side-by-side on
East 62nd Street, “allowing for fabulous entertaining,” according to the
Brown Harris Stevens listing. The boys in the band will appreciate their
manager’s wine refrigerator in his new kitchen.
But whereas Bono’s apartment in the San Remo has 800-pound, 12-foot-tall
nickel-and-bronze doors (“so precisely balanced that they can be opened and
shut with a fingertip,” according to the journalist Steven Gaines), Mr.
McGuinness’ main entertaining rooms are separated by mere French doors.
As recompense, according to listing broker Lisa Lippman, the manager’s
building is pre–World War I, so it has fancy-sounding antique details like
“original mullioned windows.” Ms. Lippman declined to discuss the buyers or
the sellers, though she mentioned that the apartment had been on and off the
market for over a year, and that a race-car driver had been interested.
“I think his wife liked to be in the Madison Avenue, good-shopping Upper
East Side,” she said about the racer. As for Mr. McGuinness: He has
reportedly kept houses in Dublin and London, plus a villa in the South of
France.

More news from correspondents in Morocco.
According to blog site 'The View from Fez' (http://www.riadzany.blogspot.com) Bono
is in the country to record a music video.
There's also speculation the visit has been timed to coincide with the Fez
Festival of World Sacred Music (check it out at http://www.fesfestival.com).
Bono is apparently staying in a riad (a traditional Moroccan house or palace
with an internal garden) in Batha, near the Medina. Very 'Mysterious Ways'!
Maybe Edge will break-out the Oud for the next album...For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside

Hopefully this Morocco business is not just them filiming a video for their cover of "Instant Karma" or something. I really hope this is next album related.I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.
