Although the film is getting...mixed reviews, it can be safely stated
that Bono's role as Dr. Robert in ACROSS THE UNIVERSE is getting some
positive buzz.

Bono Awarded Humanitarian Medal
U2 Rocker Honored With Liberty Medal Philadelphia
POSTED: 10:51 am EDT September 28, 2007
PHILADELPHIA -- Irish rocker and activist Bono was awarded the Liberty Medal in Philadelphia Thursday night for his humanitarian work in Africa.
During the event at the National Constitution Center, the U2 singer implored Americans to keep working to solve the world's problems and spoke of those who are without freedom.
He said that that range from people who continue to be trapped by poverty to the Burmese monks marching in protest against their government this week.

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
To celebrate the 20th birthday of its landmark album "The Joshua Tree," U2 is reissuing the set in four different incarnations on Nov. 20 via UMe. The album will be available as a remastered single CD, a 2-CD set, a 2-CD/1-DVD collectible box and a double-vinyl package.
The single-disc will be housed in a jewel case, but the 2-CD set comes in a hard back case. The 2-CD/1-DVD version has a base and lid to accommodate the discs as well as five portfolio prints. Band members have contributed new liner notes for the package.
Of most interest to fans is the inclusion of rare material on the expanded editions. Although details have yet to be announced, "Joshua Tree" demos, alternate versions and B-sides from the period are expected to appear.
The DVD is understood to comprise a July 4, 1987, show at the Paris Hippodrome, as well as the documentary "Outside It's America."
Produced by Brian Eno, "The Joshua Tree" shot U2's commercial fortunes into the stratosphere. The album's first three tracks were huge singles, with both "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

i'm speechless myself.....never hear jt on vinyl......
I have the original release on vinyl...in fact was quite disappointed the first time I listened to it on CD relatively speaking after years of owning only the vinyl plus a cassette taped from the vinyl for the car.

-remastered
-5 new unrelease bonus tracks

Simply one of the best U2 release EVER!!
She wears my love like a see-through dress
Her lips say one thing, her movements something else.
Notes: A solid, fun show for night one at the Garden. Springsteen wasn't in man-on-a-mission mode, he just seemed to be enjoying himself thoroughly. Not to suggest there wasn't plenty of power on that stage: "Backstreets" kicked ass, and the "Reason"/"Adam"/"She's the One" trifecta is hard to deny. But there was just more of the relaxed feel that comes with this kind of "friends and family" show. Spotted in the crowd: James Gandolfini, The Killers, and Bono (who was rumored for a guest spot, but didn't leave his seat all night).

U2 REISSUES THE JOSHUA TREE, PLOTS ITS OWN SKYSCRAPER
By Jeremy Goldmeier
Take that, John Lennon! So what, you're reissuing your discography on
iTunes? U2 is repackaging just one of its albums four times over. Oh
yeah, and that wussy "Imagine Peace" tower that Yoko Ono unveiled in
your honor? U2's getting its own skyscraper in Dublin, chump. So, you
know, have fun with all of that posthumous recognition and all.
Because the present belongs to Ireland's finest.
On Nov. 20, U2 and its similarly named home label UMe will reissue the
group's seminal Joshua Tree album in several different packaged forms
to celebrate the album's 20th anniversary. So, U2 fans, pick your
delicious poison: a single remastered CD, a double CD set, a 2xCD plus
DVD goliath, or a double vinyl version. The various pressings feature
new liner notes from the group, with bonus material to be announced in
the near future. The DVD, meanwhile, features a live 1987 concert and
the U2 documentary Outside It's America.
Now, onto the really crazy U2 news. The group has evidently finalized
plans for the "U2 Tower," which will loom over the skyline of Dublin
like a giant electric triangle. For those who haven't been following
this story, it's a pretty amazing study in progressive architecture:
solar panels, wind turbines, 34 "social and affordable flats," all
topped off with a free-hanging recording studio "pod," presumably for
use by the group. The project should cost about £140 million, and will
be spearheaded by designer Lord Foster, who put together this number
in London. Better pick up all four reissued copies of The Joshua Tree,
just in case finances fall short.

I hope this means Achtung Baby will get the same treatment in 2011 when it reaches it's 20th Birthday.
Not so bothered about the CD versions but the double audiophile vinyl pressings should be very nice. Especially considering Joshua was a single lp when origianlly released.
Achtung definitely deserves thie kind of treatment as does Unforgettable Fire & Zooropa.

VH1 Rock Doc 'Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who' Premieres
Commercial Free on VH1, Saturday, November 3 at 9pm*
October 17, 2007
NEW YORK, Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- "Amazing Journey: The Story of The
Who," a definitive, exhilarating feature-length film on the legendary
British rock band, The Who is the newest documentary to premiere in the
Emmy award winning VH1 Rock Docs franchise.
Authorized by The Who, produced by Spitfire Pictures' Nigel Sinclair
(No Direction Home: Bob Dylan) and Trinifold's Robert Rosenberg,
executive produced by Trinifold's Bill Curbishley, and directed by Paul
Crowder (Once In a Lifetime) and Academy Award(R) winner Murray Lerner
(Festival), "Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who," premieres
commercial free on VH1 Saturday, November 3 at 9pm and will be
simulcast on VH1 Classic and will run commercial free on MHD: Music
High-Definition, MTV Network's high-definition music channel. Spanning
over four decades, the film tells the unfolding story of The Who and
how they have straddled the rock world for forty years, in a tale as
gripping in adventure, life and personality as the searing power of
their music. The film features all-new, never-before-seen interviews
with Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and others, rare and recently
discovered concert footage, artist profiles and more, all in 5.1
Surround Sound.
"Amazing Journey: Six Quick Ones," a sister project and a second
feature film, made up of six integrated parts will be available on
VH1Classic.com beginning Tuesday, November 6. The band's monumental
legacy is celebrated in this companion DVD which takes us through, in
four individual pieces, the virtuoso musical abilities of each band
member: Roger Daltrey; Pete Townshend; John Entwistle; and Keith Moon;
Who Art You, a segment looking into the Mod and Pop Art movements, and
finally in Who's Back, a 2003 studio recording session captured by
legendary filmmakers, the Pennebakers, of The Who recording their hit
song "Real Good Looking Boy" from the album Then and Now, the band's
first new studio recording in over 20 years.
"Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who" moves from the group's origins
as a 1960's schoolboy R& B cover band, through their meteoric rise and
artistic breakthroughs, to the infighting, the breakups and
reconciliations, and the untimely deaths of drummer Keith Moon and
bassist John Entwistle. In addition to never-before-seen private
materials released by the group and its fans worldwide, the film
includes interviews with prominent witnesses and personal friends such
as Sting, U2's The Edge, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and Oasis' Noel
Gallagher. Rare and unreleased concert footage and outtakes are also
featured from: Monterey, Woodstock, The Isle of Wight 1970, Live At
Leeds, The Concert for NYC, and other seminal concerts.
Beginning with their first hit single "I Can't Explain," The Who
emerged from Mod-Era London to electrify the world with their unique
sound. The music and live performances of Pete Townshend, Roger
Daltrey, John Entwistle and Keith Moon tore through the existing
boundaries of rock. The band has recorded 11 remarkable albums,
including the world's first rock opera Tommy, and the ensuing
masterwork Quadrophenia. The British legends produced some of the most
compelling and original music of the era, including the songs, "Won't
Get Fooled Again," "Happy Jack," "Pictures of Lily" and the immortal
"My Generation." The feature film brings the band's story right up to
date with footage from the band's recent tour and tracks from the
band's first album in two decades 'Endless Wire'.
Marking 40 years since The Who's first U.S. appearance in North
America, Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who and Amazing Journey: Six
Quick Ones, two exhilarating feature-length films about one of the
seminal and most influential rock bands in history, produced by
Spitfire Pictures in association with Trinifold Management, will be
released by Universal Studios Home Entertainment on DVD on November 6,
2007.
"Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who" reintroduces The Who now and to
generations-to-come, as it tells one of the greatest stories of rock.
The companion feature film, "Amazing Journey: Six Quick Ones," takes
the viewer inside the mysteries that drive a rock band to the pinnacle
of musical achievement.
"Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who" is the latest film in the VH1
Rock Docs franchise. VH1 Rock Docs are high-end feature-length

U2 company pays millions to 'employees,' Irish accounts show
The Associated Press
Friday, October 26, 2007
DUBLIN, Ireland: U2 Ltd., the music publishing company that collects
royalty fees for Bono and other members of the Irish band, raked in
more than €20 million (US$30 million) last year, company accounts show.
The documents, obtained Friday by The Associated Press, offers a rare
indication of how much income Bono and other U2 members derive from
sales of their music.
U2 Ltd. said it paid nearly €18 million (US$25.8 million) in 2006 to
five unidentified "employees" — widely suspected to be the band members
and their manager. The company said it retained more than €3.8 million
(US$5.5 million), more than double the previous year.
While Bono has won accolades worldwide for his work raising awareness
of Third World poverty, he has suffered criticism at home for moving
U2's corporate offices out of Ireland to avoid paying tax.
The U2 Ltd. accounts document how the band moved its corporate base
last year from Ireland to the Netherlands, where royalties on music
incur virtually no tax.
The move, while perfectly legal, strikes a raw nerve in Ireland, whose
wealthiest citizens often live as tax exiles in other European
countries to avoid tax.
It's not known whether the globe-trotting Bono — who owns a mansion
overlooking Dublin Bay — is personally tax resident in Ireland.
U2 Ltd.'s move to the Netherlands coincided with the appearance on its
accounts, for the first time, of five new "employees" who received
€17,963,248 (US$25,795,224) in 2006.
The documents, filed this week at the Irish Companies Registration
Office in Dublin, record that the four band members — Paul "Bono"
Hewson, Dave "The Edge" Evans, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen — quit the
U2 Ltd. board when the company relocated to Amsterdam in June 2006.
The documents offered no breakdown of pay to the five. Previous years'
U2 Ltd. accounts, produced when the U2 members were still company
directors, listed employee salaries as zero.
U2's public relations firms in Dublin and London refused to confirm
whether the five in question were the U2 members and their longtime
manager, Paul McGuinness. The publicists also declined to offer any
explanation for who else might conceivably be the principal recipient
of profits from U2's music sales, if not those five men.
Frances McCahon, a London-based U2 spokeswoman, said she was not
authorized to answer any questions about the U2 Ltd. documents.
Officials at other U2-linked enterprises referred all calls to McCahon.
U2 Ltd. said it paid €765,578 (nearly US$1.1 million) in 2006 tax to
Ireland, compared to just €32,385 (US$46,500) in 2005.
The increased tax bill in 2006 reflects U2's sudden exposure to taxes
on royalty income in Ireland. Last year the government — stung by
criticism that its traditional tax-free status for artists was not
intended to support multimillionaires like U2 — capped the tax-free
benefit at €250,000 (US$360,000) annually.
Within months, U2 relocated its corporate base to Amsterdam.
The U2 Ltd. documents, reflecting the band's continuous collection of
royalty payments for album and music-download sales as well as
rebroadcast rights, are unrelated to the band's profits from its most
recent worldwide tour. Billboard reported that the Vertigo tour grossed
more than US$260 million (€180 million), making U2 the top-selling live
act of 2005.
Bono and the other U2 members regularly feature in lists of Ireland's
wealthiest people. One often published figure estimates their wealth at
€600 million (US$860 million), but the reality has proved impossible to
document given the band's myriad investment projects and companies.
The quartet are directors of a parent company, Not Us Ltd., that has
several subsidiaries including U2 Ltd., Target Tours Inc., Sam Tours
Inc., Mother Records Ltd. and U2 Partnership. The U2 Ltd. documents
show that the various subsidiaries regularly transfer funds to, and
cover expenses incurred for, other U2 subsidiaries.
Bono and The Edge are among Dublin's highest-profile property investors
and developers. The riverfront hotel they jointly own, the Clarence, is
currently the subject of a planning battle with conservationists.
U2 wants the existing hotel razed and replaced with a €150 million
(US$215 million), ultramodern hotel designed by architect Norman
Foster. An initial decision from Dublin City Council planners is due
next month.
Bono also is one of six principals in an investment trust called
Elevation Partners that invests widely, including in software houses
and Forbes business publishing.

There may be a couple more book updates posted here on @U2, but

Anyways I'm mad at myself for replacing my scratched Joshua Tree a couple of months ago. Now I don't know if I'm going to get this deluxe edition. Does anyone know how much it will be going retail?
"The Joshua Tree will prove a braver and better record than anything else that's likely to appear in 1987" NME
U2's The Joshua Tree has been meticulously remastered from the original analogue master tapes to mark 20 years since its release.
"There has been continuous demand from U2 fans to have The Joshua Tree properly re-mastered," says Paul McGuinness. "As always, the band had to make sure it was right, and now it is."
The album will be available in four formats:
• A standard CD featuring liner notes from Bill Flanagan, lyrics and unseen photographs from long time collaborator Anton Corbijn.
• A double 12" gatefold vinyl format, with the original album pressed across two 180 gram audiophile discs.
• A deluxe edition including a second CD of b-sides and demos from the original album sessions.
• A limited edition box set containing two CD's and a DVD featuring The Joshua Tree Tour live from the Hippodrome in Paris and other rare video footage.
The CD track listing is as follows: Where The Streets Have No Name, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, With Or Without You, Bullet The Blue Sky, Running To Stand Still, Red Hill Mining Town, In God's Country, Trip Through Your Wires, One Tree Hill, Exit and Mothers Of The Disappeared.

I'll hopefully be getting one of these plus the 2CD/DVD set!
Am I right in thinking that if 20th November is the US release date, then it's Friday 16th November here in Ireland?

theaters in North America in January 2008.

Although the film is getting...mixed reviews, it can be safely stated
that Bono's role as Dr. Robert in ACROSS THE UNIVERSE is getting some
positive buzz.
Spinner.com posted a clip earlier today of Bono singing the classic
Beatles tune "I Am The Walrus." See it by following the link below,
and when you're done watching, discuss whether or not you'll go to the
movie in our forum.

Not so bothered about the CD versions but the double audiophile vinyl pressings should be very nice. Especially considering Joshua was a single lp when origianlly released.

The band's monumental
legacy is celebrated in this companion DVD which takes us through, in
four individual pieces, the virtuoso musical abilities of each band
member: Roger Daltrey; Pete Townshend; John Entwistle; and Keith Moon;
VH1 Rock Docs are high-end feature-length
documentaries that each reveal an untold story in the history of rock
and hip-hop music, combining never-before-seen footage with a unique
