I hope all of the Texas theories are right. However, this is what I am afraid is happening. Pearl Jam was considering ACL and decided againist it. They had arranged for shows in Texas around ACL and the Dallas venue published it. IN the meantime, Pearl Jam for whatever reason decided not to do ACL maybe because they want to record in the studio after the mini tour or maybe something else came up. So the plans for Texas were scrapped because it no longer made sense to have shows in Texas and nowhere else in the Summer. I am afraid this is what went down.

I think it is highly unlikely that they would play large shows (arena/amphitheater) so close to a festival in terms of distance and timing. notice how they are not playing anywhere near Tennessee and also didnt play near Chicago last year. a festival would not sign a band as the headliner without making sure that the band wont also be playing their own shows near by.

I hope another leg happens, but I dont see how ACL and other Texas shows could co-exist. Someone said ACL relases its lineup in 3 weeks or so, so we should know soon.

Wha? That makes no sense. Actually, the exact opposite is true, most touring bands play festivals in the middle of their tours, it's much easier than loading up all the equipment for one show. If festivals only signed bands who weren't playing other shows, they would be severely limiting themselves.

Last year, Bob Dylan headlined and he played at Stubbs the night before. Tom Petty, who headlined the year before, was in the middle of his 30th Anniversary tour and played a show two days before and two days after ACL Fest. Coldplay the year before had just played Dallas two days before. So actually the exact opposite is the norm.

I'm not saying ACL Fest is a done deal, but if it falls through it's certainly not for that reason.
  • i think acl fest is also releases it slowly. couple names here and there.

There's definitely some "planning" going on.

    See you at ACL.

here you go. this is from an article from today's Chicago Tribune...

"Jerry Mickelson, founder and partner of Jam Productions, understands the appeal of music festivals, but companies such as his, which owns Chicago venues including the Riviera and Park West, are on the losing end. The contracts between festival organizers and bands contain "radius" clauses that prevent musicians from playing within a certain radius of the event and within a certain time period before and after it."

Sorry to quote myself but this is looking more and more like the situation--at least for ACL from what I am hearing.

The ACL line-up will be released 4/15. So, I guess we'll see what going on then? They better fucking play this area SOON!

When they announced the PJ lineup here in Chicago they were talking on WXRT about how there were rumors they tried to get Pearl Jam again and they said PJ was not wanting to do any festivals besides Bonaroo this year just as they did not do any shows besides Lolla last year...

They don't play Texas this time around and they will drop hundreds if not thousands of more fans and the fade to obscurity will just continue.

I am as die hard as they come but I tell you this, I simply can not afford to drop thousands of dollars every year to chase a rock band around the country. This trip to NE I have planned is probably the last time I travel for this band. Kids and other things take priority.

I don't get it anyway. Every other band of their stature sure can find the time to make it down here. You know why? They play music for a living. Anywhere and everywhere they can.

Exactly. I can't afford to travel to see the band. IF the Dallas show and a Houston show happen to pop up assuming the ACL fest rumor is true, I will go to the Dallas and Houston show. I just cannot afford to travel, and in all honesty, if the band wants our money, they will come down here and get it. Musically, it seems the bands priorities have changed. All the other acts we gre up listening too that are friends with pearl jam have all played shows down here. Pumpkins, RHCP, The who, Bruce Springsteen. I know I'm gonna get flamed but I've heard all the ignorant remarks before. My point is that, a band should play shows all over and not alienate an entire state. Even ONE show like they did for the Yield tour would have sufficed for the 2006 tour.

Well, then, for ACL Fest the radius must be a couple miles and the time period must be a few hours, cause as I said before every headliner from years past has played other shows within a day or two, and Dylan's show was in the same city on the same weekend.

yesterday, Rubysdad (prez of 10C) said that there are no other planned dates for 2008. I understand that this email was sent out to several people- but who are you gonna believe, some email from a venue in Texas (that even indicates it is only "pending") or the prez of the 10C?

thats because pearl jam is fuckin greedy now. Of course they are gonna tell you no other shows are planned, so you will buy tickets for the first 10 shows, then once those shows are sold out, they will announce the 2nd leg. I've bought 5 shows so far and I'm holding out for the 2nd leg.

  • I agree STP has a 65 date tour, Dave Matthews has a big fuckin tour, both with all the dates announced. Why do they choose to announce shows a few at a time. All I want is to see PJ come through Arizona once a year, cuz I know they'd play vegas and I could catch 'em there too. Even if they just played the Gorge every year around Labour Day and it was a sure thing I'd go to that and be happy.
Let's see those 2013 dates in the southern states.

Where did you find the rest of the STP dates? I can only find the first leg thru August.

    I dont know
Its rare for anyone from the 10C to step up and debunk a rumor.

and there have been other instances where people waitied for more shows only to be VERY dissapointed.

I wouldnt count on it, but Id love to be wrong.

Which is why I am doing Hartford and Mansfield.

I am going to enjoy the hell out of it because it is most likely the last time I travel.
