    I agree. but my comment is more based on Space X's not real "value". 

    None of that actually matters though. Same thing happened with Tesla. Stock prices barely match the company’s actual profitability. Does it make sense ? No. But it’s not the first or lasts ipo to have that. A lot of traders have no idea what a company even does. They simply trade based on technical analysis (the chart).

    Elongitaint not only can’t pay taxes, he shouldn’t pay taxes, said every UFC attendee last night. From the comments section of the linked NYT article:

    Park $1.1 trillion in a basic CD at 3.85% and it earns about $42 billion a year while Musk sleeps. That's $116 million a day. Roughly $1,340 every second. In the time it takes to read this comment, his idle savings earned more than most Americans make in a year — it clears a $65,000 salary every 48 seconds, and an entire 45-year working life in about 36 minutes.

    Or count it in real things. Every item sitting on every store shelf in America — every Walmart, every grocery store, every mall, all of it at once — is worth around $827 billion. He could buy all of it and still have $273 billion left, or cover a full year of groceries for every household in the country and still have more money than the next-richest person on Earth.

    Now the usual objection: he can't actually spend a trillion, because it's nearly all locked up in Tesla and SpaceX stock, not cash. True — but it doesn't tie his hands the way it would tie yours. He doesn't sell. He borrows against the stock at interest rates you'll never be offered, and spends the loan. Borrowed money isn't income, so there's no tax on it. The shares stay put and keep climbing. He gets the full spending power of the fortune while paying little or nothing — on money you'd be taxed for the second you earned it. That's the real scale. Not a pile of cash — a machine that prints a working-class salary every minute, and a tax bill that somehow lands on everyone but him.
