Cleaned up my garden got huge amounts of arugula. Reseeds every year and really takes over. Might make pesto.
Decided to cook it with hot Italian sausage, dried hot lemon chilies from last season, brown butter whole wheat noodles. Lot's of cracked pepper.
Never really cook with arugula, but it cooked down and tastes great.

if I had garlic would have added it. My scapes are prob ready to be snapped off. Garlic early July. I plan to add them to butter and freeze to use whenever. Did that last season and was a treat.
The burden of a gardener. What to do when it's harvest time. Always impress myself when I try something new and it works. Pats self on back.Post edited by Loujoe on0 -
Have huge amounts of arugula left if anyone has ideas.

Suggestion for next time: instead of composting it, you can blanche and freeze kale, and/or you can puree it and freeze it in cubes or whatever and use it in smoothies. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
Good ideas. Was my plan yet never got to it. Really amazing how much food you can grow from 1 small pack of seeds. Plan to try kale again.fall through winter into spring.PJ_Soul said:Loujoe said:Have huge amounts of arugula left if anyone has ideas.

Last season I planted seeds in late fall. Didn't ever take off. Came back to my plot early spring and it survived the winter. Could harvest a little. Fertilized it with a little composted manure. Grew like crazy. Could have been an anomaly. Will see this season.
It's not where I live, so Didn't check on it all winter.0 -
I grew some of the kale that is a decoration. I know you can still eat it but didn't.Loujoe said:

Added some orange zest to this batch. I'm addicted to preserving. Was going to add hot peppers but decided I can do that if I want after I open a jar.
Berries rhubarb and sugar sit overnight in fridge. Morning add 3 tablespoons lbottled lemon juice ( for accurate acidity to jar) 1/4 tsp salt simner away for about 30+ min. Stir to avoid burning.
Orange zest was an afterthought so just added sone to each jar before adding jam.
Jar em up!
Great hobby when you have the tools and time.
Peaches should be coming around soon. Did peach hot pepper jam a few years ago. One batch came out great
The other I cooked too long. It messes up the gelling of the jam. Kind of a science.
In case anyone cares...

I wish I had the time, space and patience for canning/preserving. I am going through a pickle/fermentation phase. There are two ladies that show up at our local farmers market every other weekend with barrels of good stuff. I eat sauerkraut almost every day. Hot pickled cauliflower is one of my favorite things to eat. Same with pickled cherry peppers. Both are always in the fridge.0 -
Sweet^ yes you inspired me before with that cauliflower. Thx for the reminder. Never experimented with fermenting. Would be fun and assuming less work than cooking and processing jars.

Truthfully I have no idea how it all works. I just buy jars or quarts at the market. But the Cento hot cauliflower makes a perfect side dish. I even use the brine. My Japanese family, that loves pickles, will not eat it. Strange but true.0 -
We also eat a bunch of kimchi each month, but we do not make it. We have an Hmart nearby. Which is next to a Shake Shack. Sweetheart, I am making a kimchi run. This month its the rib sandwich maybe x2 and a lemonade.Post edited by Get_Right on0

candy
my garlic isn't ready and only needed a couple cloves. Market only sold garlic by the pint. Ok. Buy pint. Roast it up.
keep the vampires/coworkers away.
