not me, but i would definitley like to try one out.
Seems like everyone had one a few years ago. One of my friends has one he's getting rid of and I'm going to try it out. We'll see if it's good enough to displace anything I have on my board.
try it and let us know what you think. that is kind of where i am now. if something will not replace something on my current board then i will just save the money. i have too much clutter of pedals just sitting around lol.

i think i was interested in that pedal at one time but ended up going with a protein instead because i love the blue channel.

    Will do!

Funny enough, the friend with the Hudson is getting rid of it because he just bought a Protein.

As far as getting more pedals goes, I really shouldn't add anything else. Last time I counted them, I had 85. I really should be selling a bunch of them but the secondary market isn't awesome for sellers right now.

weird coincidence!! protein is a great pedal though. i still haven't really connected with the green nobels side of it. that circuit just isn't super useful for me for some reason.

i have probably 25 between my two boards and maybe another 20 on the shelves. it is just too many for me and i can't bring myself to part with them for some reason. i can't imagine it being a sellers market at this time. maybe for things like a king of tone or something with a multi year wait list, but that is about all i can think of.

I'm tempted to get an Eventide H90 Max now that the price has dropped, but it violates my "no apps for pedals" policy.  Actually, it violates my "no apps for anything" policy.

yeah i would never get anything from eventide. i am too old school for that and i do not need a computer on my pedal board. i do not want the learning curve. let me plug in and tweat 3 knobs and rock.

like you said, "no apps for pedals". i rolled my eyes at that pedal boss released last year and just dismissed it. it might be for a lot of people, but that stuff isn't for me.

This is my guitar board. Most of the pedals were built by me so I was able to make them sound how I wanted them to.

Aside from picking up the occasional new pedal like we all do, I think I am pretty much done. This board hasn't really changed in over a year and it does everything I need.

    Thanks!

I know it is hard to tell what most of these do. The signal chain is: Wah  -> Phase 90 clone -> Overdrive (combines elements of a Tube Screamer with  BJFE Honey Bee) -> Ibanez Flying Pan clone (Phaser and panning effects) -> Klon clone (separate foot switch for boost) -> Sonic Research tuner -> Big Muff (hybrid Triangle/Ram's Head) -> Dirty Haggard Audio Broken Fuzz-> Boss CE-2 Chorus clone -> Brownface Harmonic Tremolo-> Boss DM-2 Analog Delay clone -> Earthquaker Devices Afterneath Reverberator -> Red Panda Tensor (w/ expression pedal for time/pitch control) -> ISP Deci-Mate Noise Gate (mounted under board) -> Saturnworks Passive Splitter (mounted under board.)

The signal comes out of the splitter and goes to a Fender Bassman '59 Reissue LTD on one side and a hand-wired Tweed hybrid amp on the other.

All of the pedals are powered by a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 3+ and a Voodoo Lab x4 expansion power supply mounted under the board.

Thats got to feel pretty awesome knowing you built those pedals to the sound of your liking.  I would love a home built pedal someday.

It is pretty satisfying. The main thing is that building pedals to suit specific needs has made me mostly stop buying other pedals.

There were lots of pedals over the years that I liked, but maybe had one or two things about them that made them not work in my setup. (Too noisy, cut or boosted volume, had impedance mismatch with other pedals, etc...) Taking the DIY approach means that you can identify problems with certain circuits and address them.

Very cool that you've made so many of your pedals. I think I've been "done" with my board for a little while. Problem is that I keep buying pedals for fun, even though they don't necessarily apply to the general sound of the music I write. Haven't bought a new one since Notadumble, so I may be cured.

in my experience there is never a cure. the affliction just goes dormant for a while and re-emerges with a vengeance.

Had to pass on the Hudson Broadcast. It is a really cool pedal and it sounds great for what it is, but it was overly bright in my setup.  There is only a low cut control for frequency sculpting which makes it very difficult to tame the high end.

good to know. yeah that would not work for my set up. my old marshalls are too bright so anything that adds brightness just would not work in that setup. then i am tweaking guitar tone knobs and other pedals and it just isn't worth the headache.

    thanks for the honest review.

last night i bought a headrush prime and a 12" frfr speaker. never thought I would even look at modelers but I like the idea of being able to clone my rare/vintage amps and pedals so that I can leave the expensive stuff at home. will report back after playing around with it for a while....

i always swore i would never deviate from amps and pedals, but here we are.

What is your verdict on the Headrush FRFR?  I was considering the Headrush Go for my HX Stomp as a cheap entry to test the waters.

it's good. i would recommend it. it is not as expensive as some of the others out there, and i think it holds up pretty well against the other ones. the guitarist in my girlfriend's band has an older version of the prime and ti sounds great. sounds the exact same every time i hear them, which has been probably 85 times by now. he is the one that talked me into it. he tried to steer me towards his version but i wanted the auto tune and some other features that his does not have. he has two of them set up exactly the same, so if one breaks down he has a backup. if i ever fully convert to this one i can pick up a used one and do the same thing he did.

i bought/downloaded some rigs from some various websites because i did not like a lot of the presets that came with it. i had spent a lot of time tweaking them and for some reason it just did not sound as good to me as something i would expect that cost as much as it did. the presets i bought are a little too wet for what i do. several have reverbs and delays on there that you cannot remove, or turn off so you are stuck with them. what i have not tried is cloning those rigs, saving a new version, and trying to remove those ambient effects that make it sound too wet.

the frfr speaker is much more bassy than expected. it sounds much different than what comes out of the pa speakers, because i plug the headrush directly into the pa via xlr cable. but i guess that is because the frfr speaker functions as a monitor, or something to give you some stage volume.

you can get very in-depth and out in the weeds with noise gates and tweaking your own pre-sets, which gives me option paralysis. the main thing is to make sure your amp sim is not clipping when you start creating rigs. there are a bunch of youtube tutorials on that.

i love the touchscreen display so you can see your rig in real time and you can just drag and drop pedals and change their orders. to tweak pedals you just click on it and use the knobs to tweak your settings which is nice. i am experimenting with the "scenes" function now so you can have several pedals in your chain and turn some on or off with a single button push. that confuses the hell out of me, but that is what all of the younger modeler players are doing.

i like the cloud where people create rigs or irs and upload them there and you can just download them onto your unit and use them if you like.

the amp cloner works pretty well. i cloned my matchless clubman head and it sounds pretty good. i wanted to clone my vintage marshalls but there is no effects loop so i would have to get a mic and mic the cabs and that is more work i don't want to do and money i don't want to spend on mics and cables. i cloned a bunch of pedals like the king of tone, randy rhoads mxr distortion, the threshold maximizer, and a dr no drive o matic. the clones are really close to what the pedals sound like and this feature will continue to get better with subsequent firmware updates.

you can make this thing as complicated and elaborate or as simple as you want.

my advice would be to go and play one before you buy. that way you can play around with it and someone at the store can demo it for you. i think it holds its own with the other modelers and has some functions that many of them do not. the thing is, every modeling company is wanting to get bigger market share so it is going to drive the other competitors to get better, so that is a win for consumers everywhere. my concern is at some point. maybe 5 or 10 years from now things will get so advanced that the hardware might become obsolete at one point. but the same argument can be made about vintage tube amps, so here we are.

let us know what you think when/if you get one.

oh shit you only asked about the frfr. sorry for the long winded post above.

i got the 12" and from what i hear it has more of a bass response than the 8". the 12" was only a little more expensive so i figured what the heck just get the 12. if i had to do it over again i would have gotten the 8, because i think it more closely sounds like what comes out of the mains in a gig situation, and if you are just using it for stage volume the 8 is more than loud enough. to me the 12 might be a little overkill for home use.

the problem was no stores have the prime and associated frfr speakers here for people to try so i was flying blind. my sweetwater rep recommended the 8" but i think since i was spending more money he wasn't super incentivized to talk me out of it, haha.

since i bought it i have seen some used headrush frfr speakers pop up at used gear shops like music go round if you have one of those in your area. might be able to try one out there.
