Love my HD28, but agree the D18 will sound just as good.  I don't love my J45.  I probably should give it a better shot.

I'm going to re-string it and give it another go this weekend.  Been a while.

Late to comment, but DAMN. Sorry that happened to you. Totally one of those wahwah moments when you're wondering if there was anything you could have done differently. Grrrrr. Hope things worked out.

When I went in and tried out my SJ200, there was also a Hummingbird there. I played that as well and was torn. I love my SJ200 and yet I still wonder if I made the right choice. I was so focused on the 200. I still need to explore Martins.

i should have it back in a week or two so hopefully the guy can fix it appropriately.

Out of curiosity, what kind of strap locks were you trying to install?

Also, those rubber washer locks are free if you buy a 6-pack of Grolsch beer. They use the same kind of thing to seal the bottles. Plus, you get beer!

One 6-pack has enough for three guitars. I'm 99% certain that that's where guitar companies got the idea in the first place since lots of people have been using Grolsch washers for strap retention for many years.

Best of luck with your Gibson!

prolines. i have used schallers for nearly 30 years and they are backordered everywhere so i would have had to wait until late may or june. have a show may 19 so would have needed before then.

honestly i had never heard of using the beer washers until this happened. i probably would have adopted that ages ago so i would not have to alter my nicer guitars.

i ordered some washers on sweetwater that should be here tomorrow.

thanks man!!! i will let you all know how it turns out.

update: so i received the strap blocks in the mail today. man, they work pretty well. wish i hadn't been putting straplocks on my guitars all these years. I may take the straplocks off and just use these things going forward.

lol i missed the british racing green les paul 60s spec again this morning. got the email that they were in stock. i opened it about 10 min after it arrived. clicked the link, added to cart, boom, sold out.

i have a feeling it may be a while before i get one. the 50s spec is still there.

Do you have a dedicated rep at Sweetwater?  Perhaps you could have them reserve one for you.

That's what I did with the McCready Master Built Strat and the Jim James 335.  I got invited to the wedding for my Sweetwater rep.  He said I basically paid for it.

i do, but the BRG series is gibson.com exclusive, so you can only get it from their website. when they first came out they stuck around for a few weeks. i was in the process of moving some money around and paying off credit cards. i was not sure if i wanted a 50s or 60s spec so i went to guitar center and played a bunch of each. i thought i would have wanted the 50s, which i was about to order, but after playing 7 or 8 50s and 4 or 5 60s i learned i really wanted a 60s. bt the time i was ready to pull the trigger they sold out about 2.5 months ago and have only come back in stock twice since they sold out. had one in my cart both times and they sold out from under me both times. i have my gibson card info saved now, so can enter it right away next time they are in stock.

my sweetwater rep is pretty cool. i have spent maybe 6 or 7k with him over the years, but i have not gotten invited to a wedding, haha. that is awesome.

I take pride in that I somehow have the WORST Sweetwater rep ever created by God.  He has never reached out to me, answered any questions in a reasonable amount of time (only replied to a question once, about a week after I bought the item), or helped me with any deal.  He is completely useless.  His name is Michael Pxxxxx (not that the lazy guy would ever come across someone posting about his lack of effort, but I don't want to doxx ... just curious if that rings a bell for anyone).  I've had other Sweetwater employees follow up on purchases when he is on vacation ... but nothing ever from him.  Ever.  Worst part is that he probably gets a commission on stuff I buy.

It's kinda funny, but I've been in Sweetwater a few times and asked about getting switched to a new rep ... I get looks like I just asked to replace the Pope.  And then that person will make excuses for my rep saying he must have been busy ... he has been busy for about a decade.

But I usually can find better deals, so I'm glad I'm not getting bothered by them.  I just wish he didn't get a commission.

yeah that sounds like the laziest sweetwater rep of all time. mine has been great. does not annoy me. he will somehow know when i do not have a balance with them and will hit me up asking "hey rodney, hope you are well. have you seen this??" and then i get roped into trying not to buy something lol.

they are protective of their reps though. i was talking to my person one time and told him that my lead player has a different rep and he offered to put me with that other rep. he said that they like to try to keep people in bands with the same reps. i said don't change anything. weird that he offered that though.

Congrats!  It is a sweet color.

I had it in my cart, but before I could finish checking out, an issue at work came up and by they time I got back they sold out.  Oh well.  I can wait.  I got plenty to keep me busy.

thanks man! hopefully it is as pretty in person as it is in photos.

sorry to hear. they have come up a couple of times in the last 10 days so just keep clicking the "update me when back in stock" tab to get emails. my gmail sends them to the promotions tab, so if you go in and mark anything from gibson as important you should get a push notification for it.

the other bummer is the financing went from 36 months a few days ago to 24 months today. it is only about $40 more per month now, but i normally pay at least $50 over the minimum payment each month to pay it off sooner, so it isn't that big of a deal in the scheme of things.

I have never financed a guitar, although I was considering it for this.  I try not to buy expensive guitars at full price, but this may be an exception.  How has ordering direct from Gibson been for you?  Gibson has always been outside of the Circle of Trust for me, but I know they are trying to improve QA/QC.

the financing is easy. you just go on their website and put something random in your cart. and when you click check out it will give you options of using your credit card, google pay, etc, and then it will give you options to finanace at 0% through them. then you just apply for their credit card. when you do that and get approved, just delete the item from your cart so you do not buy that. also, once approved it automatically saves that new gibson/synchrony bank card to your purchase options, so when something in high demand like this pops up all you do is add it to your cart, click check out, and that card pops up as the first option if you want to use it. i finanace guitars all the time. i get expensive ones and just pay more than the minimum payment and pay it off. it is 0% interest so there is really no penalty. the only penalty is if you miss a payment, you will end up owing all of the back interest that would have accrued, so just don't miss a payment. financing things just keeps me able to have cash on hand for other things when i need it. when i was gigging all the time i would finance a guitar and pay it off in 2 or 3 months using only the gig money i would make so nothing came out of my pocket. to me, gig money was basically found money that every dollar of which went to gear. that is how my collection got so crazy.

i have only financed one guitar from gibson before this, the olive drab les paul special and it was easy. i think i received it the next day, or the second day after ordering. only thing is they ship via fedex so someone has to be home to sign for it. i have a problem that this brg guitar is due for delivery tomorrow but i will be gone all day with a prior commitment so i will probably have to pick it up from fedex monday. i will call fedex later today to see if it is in the st louis area later today and might just go get it before they close today.

i have financed and shipped a bunch of guitars and gear over the years from sweetwater and guitar center and have never had any issues.  the qa/qc from gibson has been great. the pelham blue lp i just bought was great. ups caused the finish checking and as far as the strap button issue, i am the one that messed it up, not gibson. i think gibson qc since the new ceo took over a few years ago is the best it has been in 25 years.

i would go for it in this case if i were you, but i would definitely apply for the card now because if you do it when it comes back in stock someone will buy it out from under you while you are trying to get approved. either that, or just use whatever card you want.

good luck man. i know you have been wanting one of these nearly as long as i have.

congrats on the new purchase!    Neat color.  I like the 60's neck.

I may need to buy a new guitar.  Might be time to get rid of some too.
