Ribbon Skirt are awesome. It's crazy they haven't blown up. Weirdly I live in Ottawa, like 2 hours from Montreal, but I don't think I have ever heard them on local Canadian radio. Which is extra weird since Canadian stations are required by law to play 35% Canadian music.HughFreakingDillon said:

I'm in my 50's so maybe out of the loop, but I wish there was a way of finding out about these bands without exhaustive research and/or luck. Local indie newspapers are all gone. I used to pick one up every thursday that would have all these types of bands mentioned.
I actually learned about them (along with a ton of other band I would have never heard of otherwise) by listening to KEXP (www.kexp.org). The only real drawback is that if you start listening to KEXP it will ruin regular radio stations. Because they play an insane variety, they don't have any commercials, they don't do any annoying DJ banter where they talk about local news or sports or social media. They don't even do regular news updates, just music.0 -
I've found the same. Sure, radio stations are forced to play some canadian bands, but they only play the big ones on rotation. Nothing indie, which sucks. But besides university radio stations, all indie radio rock is dead (at least in Winnipeg).Kel Varnsen said:

Some of my favourite Canadian bands I found out about by accident. Never on the radio.
