Irene 7 days. Sandy 9 days. We thrived because dad has an emergency box. Charging stations, hand crank radio, freeze dried food canned soup etc. Get a Jackery, Pelican flashlights, a Mountain House bucket and tons of beef jerky. And hurricane lamps that run on oil. We were fine. I actually enjoy when it happens.

Sandy was awful. No power for about a week. After being miserable in the cold and dark in my apartment for two days my friend who lived uptown where there was power offered me her place for a few days. She was out of town. Her doorman gave me keys. But every day I had to take the bus back downtown (subways were not running) to feed and check on my cats. If I came too late it was pitch dark downtown. No street lights or traffic lights. So scary. Then I had to bus it back uptown to my friend’ place. I’m glad my friend let me stay at her place. I had some friends in my neighborhood that toughed it out.

A beautiful day here in London
My family is finally at Heathrow getting out of London. They did enjoy their stay, including three extra days, having dinner at St. John, lunch at the Hereford Arms, a good chippy (chippie), and tea at the Savoy.
EDIT: My son also bought a Barbour Jacket, which cost me a fortune and I am not looking forward to keeping the wax fresh.

I just looked up what in the hell a Barbour jacket is.

$700 for a jacket?  I guess if I had the money to throw at it.  I'm guessing most people won't know what it is and how much it costs.

    I learn something new everyday.
Do you have to keep your nutsack waxed?
lol waxed poetic of course Dana!

I take consolation that it is not Gucci or Louis Vuitton. That would have cost me much more. And he may wear it for 20 years. My son is smart about expensive purchases. He does have some style and is attending a state school so I give him some space. He knows it will be ten years before I buy him anything like that. I guess a good suit and a tuxedo is probably on the horizon.
It’s another high end line I have never heard of.  I went down a watch rabbit hole some years back and did noit realize the high end brands that were out there. It’s not just the ones that advertise.

Good on your kid for appreciating the finer things and appreciating what they are. The higher end clothing I buy tends to last longer so I get it.

A few suits are definitely a good purchase.

He is a good kid and has turned into a good young man. He did go through the sneakerhead and the Supreme phase, (effing $250 sweatshirts and $300 Yeezys). But that is long over. On my 21st birthday my mom walked me into Brooks Brothers and told the man, "my son needs a tux, give him the works." That was 36 years ago. I still have it and it still fits. I guess something like that is in my near future.

Here was the most painful part of Sandy. We woke up and had power because all of our power lines are underground. But at 10:30am the power went out. Why? Because we are on the same grid as Northern Westchester Hospital and they needed more power. So they shut us down and we went to the back of the line. I recall living through a power outage or two when I lived in NYC. Especially in the summer. I lived on the 16th floor (28th and 3rd). Not fun carrying food and gallons of water up those stairs, and yes heat rises. It was brutal. I can only imagine how a single woman felt at night in a building without a doorman. Scary stuff.

No, but already doing research on a Generac.
Not doing that again if I can help it.
Only spent one night at the house then went to my sister in law's until power restored.
Living on the coast this has happened a few too many times.
    This weekend we rock Portland

Number one my condo does not allow them. I have heard they cost about 10K to properly install. But you can add 30K to your property value if you have one. So if you can afford it, it pays for itself. But it will not help you if the problem is flooding and you install it at sea level.

Your generator and your panel box should both be above the flood plane if you'd like them to work properly, lol.

Even if you buy a generator you can have a plug hook up installed to your box.  We used to install the kits for people right after sandy.

Or if you're handy you can make a jumper plug for the box.

Supreme is such a good marketer.  I have seen people dressed from head to toe in advertisements with their clothes. Making almost everything "limited" helps too.

Pretty amazing that half the cast of KIDS worked there at one time.

I will say their quality is very good. Much of their stuff we bought was made in Canada and is still in great shape years later. Even the T-shirts. I probably pressed F5 for more box logos than Pearl Jam tickets.

I remember when Supreme was just a strange skate shop across the street from the Beastie Boys XL store. On Lafayette near the Temple Bar.

The transfer kit is key. It will turn the generator on automatically if the main goes down.

If you don't want to throw 10-20K on it just get the plug and hook your genny up to it.  It happens so infrequent here thats all I used to do.
