when i looked last night all of these were sold out, but i guess first thing this morning they released some cherry sunbursts, which had also been out of stock for a while.

I just got this Schecter PT, always wanted one. Was used, like new from Guitar Center, so I have 45 days to return it.I have a question for any guitar techs out here.I casually played guitar about 25 years ago. Been trying to get back into it the last couple years.
I really love it so far. The only issue is when I got it, I heard some rattling at the head stock. I figured it was a loose nut on a tuning leg or something. But figured out the truss rod was just completely loose. Got it tightened about 1/2 a turn and it was too much, had to back it up a little. Neck and everything seems perfect now, good set up, but it probably has just a 1/4 turn or less before it’s loose.
Should I be concerned about that? If it ever needs an adjustment more than a 1/4 turn will I just be SOL?
I love it and want to keep it, but don’t want to be stuck with an issue I can’t fix down the road.

unfortunately i do not know a lot about truss rods in these guitars. i know gibsons should never ever need more than a quarter turn either direction. any fender style guitar i always send to my tech because i think in most models the necks have to be taken off and i do not ever want to mess with that.
i would keep an eye on it and see. sounds like it is playing well for you right now. if you have an issue, just from past experience, i would not take it to guitar center for repair. i would take it to a guitar/stringed instrument repair shop and let their luthier deal with it. most of those guitar center guys do basic setups and string changes, but anything more than that i would take it to someone reputable. and if it happens in the next 45 days you can still return it if you have to."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

This article may help figure out the rattle on the truss rod ...Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0

Thanks. I actually found a similar article, they both say that sometimes the neck can just be straight on its own and not be putting any tension on the rod. Seems like that was the case. I thought it was just completely loose, but a 1/8 turn either direction and it will engage, it was just in a sweet spot where it wasn't providing any tension. I didn't realize that was possible. I tightened it just enough to not rattle.Jason P said:This article may help figure out the rattle on the truss rod ...
So now I feel like Eddie circa 1995 playing this thing.0 -
That's awesome! Those are great guitars that should cost more than they do. Excellent craftsmanship and materials.mace1229 said:

I wouldn't worry about the truss rod if the neck relief can be set comfortably for you and it doesn't rattle. In your case, I wonder if the truss rod was loosened before shipping by a previous owner and never readjusted to the proper tension. I have encountered several guitars on my work bench where that was the case.
Congrats on the new guitar! If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done. - EV0
