playing around with the fundamentals of a capitalist and successful real estate market is a slippery slope, and it didnt work out so well in the city’s past when similar ideas failed spectacularly.
plus, what this dude says here is absolutely alarming. Real democrats should take note of every word he is saying here. Not the Democratic Party I know. Not the Democratic Party that used to win nationwide elections.

By right wing logic, those are free things. And how does seizing the means of production by a mayor play out in reality?Lerxst1992 said:Go Beavers said:

Partially true. Rent is out of control. True. Commercial buildings are empty. True. Commercial buildings are being turned into residential. True.Go Beavers said:

How could I forget such a divisive campaign issue? “Fuck you @CurtisSliwa. I HATE YOU, your dumb wife, that stupid Beret of yours and all your fucking cats!,” he wrote.

Suburban realtors have seen an increase in New York City buyers, often referred to as the "Mamdani effect," which has been driven by concerns over potential policy shifts following the NYC mayoral primary. This influx of buyers has led to a surge in demand and competitive bidding, particularly in areas like Westchester County and Connecticut.- Increased demand: Real estate agents in the suburbs report a significant uptick in interest from NYC buyers, with some calling it a "steady rising market".
- Motivation: Many buyers are motivated by potential changes in city policy related to taxes, public safety, and livability under the leading mayoral candidate.
- Competitive market: This new demand has created a highly competitive environment, with homes receiving multiple offers and selling quickly, often at or above asking price.
- Geographic focus: The trend is most evident in areas close to NYC, such as Westchester County, NY, and Greenwich, CT.
- Data: County-wide data shows a substantial rise in contracts for single-family homes, especially for those priced over $1 million.
The increase in population has a lot to do with asylum seekers and not just natural migration. People aren't moving here for affordability that's for sure.
I do agree that realtors are feeding that statement w "mamdani effect.0 -
That it would be a new service is irrelevant to the claim that they’re free. It’s paid by taxpayers regardless of how a politician labels it.tempo_n_groove said:

This seems fair to me. In the late 6os/early 70, I Iived in San Francisco while working at a minimum wage job. That's not possible today. Doing things to make some of our cities affordable again seems like a great idea to me. And feasible.
Mamdani told CBS New New York back in September that he would pay for free buses, along with his other democratic socialist policies, in part, by increasing the corporate tax rate to 11.5% -- the same as New Jersey -- and instituting a flat 2% tax rate for individuals earning $1 million or more.
"My vision for making the most expensive city in the United States of America affordable is actually one that benefits all of us," he said.

The economic messaging is why he and the other dems won. His youthfulness and Cuomo being an old dried up perv also helped. The media is acting surprised because they created a false narrative around why Trump won, which was because of his economic messaging, and not because 7 years old were identifying as cats and pooping in litter boxes. Voters, particularly younger ones, figured out they got duped when Trump and republicans showed no interest in lowering costs.tempo_n_groove said:
