Okay, haven’t seen this since the theater probably. Man, Kincaid’s dog did him dirty. Twice! Comes into his dreams twice and is beyond not helpful. Not sure I’m clear on how Freddy comes back.

Freddy’s death scene has some nice effects. So does the body building bug.
To quote Black Phone 2 (which is kind of a spiritual Elm Street sequel in itself), Dead is just a word.
Yeah, I get that. As Freddy says, he is eternal. But fiery dog pee to open the grave is a little funny. 😄
Totally. I was being sarcastic in my response, and I wasn't clear on how he came back either. If it wasn't pee then what was it? Was he resurrected by Kristen's worrying/fear?

Very little substance, driven by the empty main character and luck or bad luck in a silly card game. Farrell’s player is sick and sucks without any plus. Even the genre add-on isn‘t a winner and all or nothing can be ruined with the final minute.
Favorite bit was the end credits music.

😃 Maybe it was fear of Freddy? That’s the best explanation I’ve heard!

Or they just thought it would be cool for a dog to pee hellfire!

Always seen it, as him slowly creeping back into their minds and with enough thoughts of him, he manifests again.

But I think Renny Harlin meant it to be literary fire-piss (I think he has said it was his idea).

Seeing this so many times via the swedish VHS, and there the cockroach scene was cut. So to me, buying the US DVD set in like 2001 that scene was a surprise and something completely new. Which was fun.

The swedish cut version, ended with Freddy pushing down the wight-bar and the girls arms break. I kind of think the bug-scene is... unnecessary. Would have rather had a visceral/grounded shot or two more in the gym. Like her trying to escape, but can't lift her arms and Freddy coming behind with the claws.

I don't need the fantastical/funloving gimmicky. I want the dreams as "our world but with a surreal twist". Like e.g. Tina being dragged across the ceiling in part 1.

It's not that good IMO. It has some good qualities, but overall it's maybe average? The trailers made it look a lot better than it actually is. It's worth watching I guess, but don't get too excited, lol.

^Oooh. I’ve seen this and don’t know anyone who has. I’m a sucker for cosmic horror and From Beyond nasty practical effects. This one was dark. For all of the previously mentioned, I “enjoyed” it.

    Thoughts?

Sigh. I know that most of SK's adaptations don't live up to the books, but movies like The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Stand By Me, Misery, and maybe Carrie always keep me hopeful for amazing ones. This one in particular is one I really really hoped would live up to the story, as it's one of SK's best. Unfortunately, it does not. They tried, but I think budget probably really got in the way of them being able to do all the things that needed to be done to make it good.
They clearly weren't willing or able to pay for all the people needed to address the most dramatic and interesting parts of the story. They even cut the competition from 100 walkers to 50, which took away a lot, and they wouldn't pay for the whole feverish spectator factor that is SOOO important to the story. They didn't even swing for proper makeup or FX or anything to reflect just how horrible the impact of the walk was on the walkers. Basically, they took out at least 90% of the drama and details that make the story great. And then the ending... UGH.
So that's a pretty huge let down. I've been hoping for a really good adaptation of The Long Walk for decades, but alas, this fell way short. I wish this had had a blockbuster budget and a Speilberg-level kind of director. Pipe dream yeah, but for me, the book deserved it.
That said, it could have been a lot worse. The actors were pretty good at least.
And maybe it will work better for people who haven't read it.

Agree. Shit. And I don't trust that director.
