I want to resurrect this thread right now because i just heard for the 1000th time someone say "the pit in my stomach." Goddammit, it's the pit OF your stomach. Do these people think a peach pit or a plum pit feels like that in their stomach or what?
It really bugs me because I am just one of those people who care about this shit, and an English lit major, and i'm not going to feel bad about how much the ever-increasing desecration of the English language bothers me, lol. I know there are many others out there!

There are some specific grammatical errors that annoy me. Using "could care less" is definitely one of them. This thread brings back memories of my AP English teacher. We spent the first two weeks of the class reviewing many of the ones listed in this thread. If you made one of the errors on her list, you automatically failed that assignment.

Yes or no on the use of Oxford commas?
I used to care about this a lot more, and felt that the Oxford comma was the only way to go, but then my work place (a university, believe it or not), decided to forgo it as the official method, so I've been forced to accept it. I can't say i'm really okay with that, but you do get used it. Ugh.

Why in the fuck is everyone saying "all of the sudden" now????? That one really drives me crazy. So does "on accident." What the hell?? How did that become a thing?? :anguished:
And yes, "could care less" is an abomination, lol. It doesn't even make sense ffs.

I have my music on my phone. Every song in it has every word in the title capitalized. Stuff like "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" or "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" drives me nuts. I don't remember what the actual rules are, but I capitalize everything.

    This is different but related:

I started a new job at the end of July, overseeing an offshore financial services operations team. Over the past couple of weeks, I've been sending out a daily summary, and I've been approving procedure documents.

Everything I review is riddled with grammar/spelling/format issues.

I'm trying to figure out a way to delicately approach these issues with the the team, but I fear I might not be able to, and it's a gap we might not be able to fill.

I don't remember what the format is titled, but song titles in English are supposed to be capitalized with a few exceptions. Exceptions are articles, short prepositions, conjunctions, and if the artist purposefully used lower case. The only reason I know this is because it was on my aforementioned teacher's list to remember.

Disappointing that a university would take that stance.

100%. I don't know what idiot made that decision, but I wish I did
