Leaving aside the pros and cons of a PJ halftime show in and of itself, I feel like it’s pretty obvious a certain tight end’s fiancée will be doing that gig this season

I also think it will be Taylor for the halftime this year.

Superbowl halftime show is so beneath PJ though.

I would rather them not do it but it’s hard to say it’s beneath them with all the artists that have done it.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

I'm not sure how it would be beneath them. And I don't think for a second the NFL would even consider having them do it. And I'm OK with that lol

I think it lines up quite well for TS to do it.  New album comes out in October and the game is a few months later. Would not be at all surprised.

How is it beneath them? Springsteen, U2, Prince, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, and The Who off the top of my head have all performed at the Super Bowl.

I feel like PJ are not a side entertainment for a sporting event choreographed by an evil mega corporation in the annual commercial-fest.

    But maybe it's just me.

Well… plenty of well respected and highly principled artists seem to have played the Super Bowl without the world coming to an end and I think PJ fits pretty nicely in with the group I listed.  It would be fun and Pearl Jam are allowed to be just rockstars once in a while without the weight of the world on their shoulders.

And… At least at the Super Bowl fans could see the performance unlike when Ed does shows for Oracle and NetJets.

It's not just you but you are a part of an extreme minority. Watching a football game with a break in the middle for Prince to shred was fun as shit.

They aren’t big enough to headline the Super Bowl. The only way it would ever happen is as a guest performance for an other artist and that pool is very small. The half time show is produced by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation and the summer speculation was he’s doing the show. I won’t put money on Swift. The performers aren’t paid so it’s more of a promotional opportunity and she doesn’t need it. Also the performances are lip synced and I doubt PJ would do that. It’s not like they are the Chili Peppers.

Bruce, for one, didn’t lip synch his appearance.  For the record… I think it’s highly unlikely Pearl Jam plays the Super Bowl.  But it would be fun to see as a fan.

Not his vocals or his solo but E Street Band's and backup vocals were prerecorded. Same for Prince and Lady Gaga but they are exceptions. I don’t think Stone, Jeff and Mike want to pretend play there instruments. For the Peppers Anthony was singing over prerecorded audio and the Flea and Josh didn’t even plug in their instruments.

That’s exactly correct.  Super Bowl halftime isn’t beneath PJ, it’s way above them popularity-wise.
Could be Taylor Swift but if it’s a big rock band could be Green Day or Metallica if they go Bay-area hometown.
I hate the Foo Fighters but they’re probably popular enough to do it one day eventually too but could be more of a collab like RHCP did.

Yes... that's why I said Bruce did not lip sync.   Prerecorded audio is not the same as lip syncing. And the only reason the band's audio was prerecorded is because there is so little time to set up before the performance.  It has nothing to do with the band's commitment to authenticity or ability to play live.
