Would love more Jack Irons, or someone like him with a wild unique style.  He really brought out the creativity and helped take the band to amazing places.

This. Yes I love the tribal beats that Irons brought to the band.

Me too and it would be my preferred outcome thought I think it is a bit of a long shot.  Nice new chapter going back to go forward kind of thing where the then outgoing guy gets handed back the sticks from then incoming guy.

Am I the only one kind of excited for a new drummer?? Could really mix things up, shake some new life into the old formula.

Per usual I think the folks saying the band is done are personally ready to hang up their fandom. Which is fine! But some of us aren’t done, including the band.
I am exited as well. Matt is a fantastic drummer, but i feel his best work comes to the surface on other projects. An example is the TOTD tour from 2017 where I feel he gets more into it.

If Matt doesn’t feel inspired by being in Pearl Jam, them getting a new drummer should excite every fan.

Love Matt! Thanks for the 27 years in my favorite band!

Pass the torch, the baton back... and to Jack FN Irons! I like this a lot.

Krusen really seems to be posting a lot of PJ related stories on IG. Is he in? Or just angling to get in?

The fact that Dave K has been hyper posting all those PJ posts, and especially those advocating for him, tells me he wants in, but has not been approached. Otherwise, he would be quiet.

If we are going by that logic Dave K and Dave A are not in the running.

im hoping it’s Stuverud, he’s got some energy and the personality behind the drum kit

Not a past drummer or another famous drummer. Pick someone new, write some new songs, and then go play them live. That is what I would like to see. I can wait.

Dave A: Will not happen. Even if there's was some opening Im afraid he's not in shape to tour and do 2.5 hour shows. A three minute YouTube video is not prove that he still got it. Sure, he still has the skills and clicked for PJ's music in 92. But it's 2025 now. I mean, look at how fit Matt C looks for a 62-year old. And all speculations aside, the physical part is probably the mean reason he quit.

Jack Irons: Will not happen. See above. This is a physical hard job. Jack realized in 1998 what Matt realized in 2025.

Dave Krusen: Probably not. Looks great and seems to be in great shape. But I don't think he has the power that is needed for the current band.

Matt Chamberlain: Was already their drummer in 1991. Seems to be on very good terms with Stone. Was a Loosegroove artist in the 90s and has reconnected with Stone on Painted Shield. Also drummed on Jeff's latest solo album. Replaced Matt Cam in Soundgarden before. Has proven to be more than able. Out of all their previous drummers this has to be the best pick by FAR.

In 1994 they went for Jack Irons. Who was Eddie's pick to be the drummer for PJ. They all had one pick that was tried.

Richard Stuverud: Jeff's pick in 1994. Has worked with Jeff ever since. Is a powerhouse of a drummer and seems to be a really fun guy. Did one show with PJ and sounded great. But the big question here is also physical. Some years younger that the other guys, but is he fit enough for touring and live shows? He will probably be considered.

Chris Friel: Mike's pick in 1994. One of Mike's best friends. But drums at a more amateur level nowadays (Sweetwater?). Will probably not be considered.

Josh Freese: Stone's pick in 1994. Another Loosegroove artist who apparently is well connected to Stone. Just got fired from the Foo's.  Also just became the new NIN drummer.

    And some other connected drummers.

Zak Starkey: Ed's was his best man at his wedding and just got fired from the Who. Could be interesting but personal I don't think he would be a good fit. Is the exact opposite from Matt Cam and would somewhat struggle with that work. I mean, he was fired from the Who for overplaying. From the Who!!

Josh Klinghoffer: Hell no. Awesome dude, great musician. But as a drummer not good enough. And yeah, the whole accident...

Brad Wilk: Played with Ed in San Diego bands before PJ or Rage even existed. Was tried for PJ in 1991 after they fired Krusen, but didnt click with Jeff.  Seems to be in great shape now. Could be a really interesting choice. Rage is really done now. So yeah.... Dont think he's as good as Chamberlain, but maybe he will be considered.Bu to be honest, I dont think he's looking for anything as big as PJ, doesnt really need it.

But PJ also need to start thinking about where to go from here. I always thought Matt Cam would be their final drummer. They will probably record some more records (not many) and will tour as long as they can/want. But if they want to go for another 10-15 years and become a touring act in their seventies than they should also consider a younger drummer. Someone who is in his 40s now and will beat the shit out of them for the next ten years. Something the Foo's just did by hiring a much younger drummer.

Yeah age is the biggest thing counting against my favourites. Josh Freese is a decade younger than Matt Cameron so thought he'd have been a great shout before he rejoined NIN.

He wrote a gushing letter when announcing it so he must have really felt at home there. And how many connections there are with 90s rock bands they'll cross paths soon enough so hope there's no weirdness when it happens (at risk of sounding naive).

    I am excited
Me too..I may be in the minority in saying this but Matt is my least fav PJ drummer.. but somehow in my top 5 fav all time. PJ will be absolutely fine. Don't get me wrong, Matt is a complete bad ass on the drums but I just never liked his style with PJ. I say this as a drummer of 30 years myself.

IMO - He played all the old stuff too stiff, straight, and too fast without much groove.
