”Mr. Biden’s aides never had him meet with his campaign’s pollsters. Instead, they often presented overly optimistic outlooks of the political landscape, alarming members of the campaign staff, who looked for ways to bypass his longtime advisers Steve Ricchetti and Mike Donilon
Mr. Biden was aware of the concern among Democrats — it was impossible to ignore — but his aides continued to provide him with a warped version of reality.
Mr. Biden had a team of campaign pollsters who were prepared to tell him the truth about the numbers, but they never got the opportunity. They were told they should present to his closest advisers — not to the president himself.
If Mr. Biden knew about the tanking polls, he did not let on.
When former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California, met privately with Mr. Biden in the White House for a crisis meeting that July, she grew frustrated by his insistence that the polling showed no real change since the debate. Was he not seeing the numbers she was seeing?
At one point, Mr. Biden asked an aide to put Mr. Donilon on the phone because the president did not believe Ms. Pelosi. She was adamant the polls showed Mr. Biden would lose to Mr. Trump.
So they went to two people they knew could get Mr. Biden’s attention: the hosts of “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, which the president watched every morning.
You are allowed to post seventeen thousand comments about the horrible living conditions, something BOTH parties have responsibility for…
but expecting dems/Ocasiocrats, to be honest about the leaders health and mental capacity, and allowing people to vote for the nomination, having an actual democracy, which was their fucking argument against trump , that gets three fucks in eight words from you lol.

Tim Simmons said:Lerx, who would you have wanted as the nominee if not Harris?I posted a nice link on this a couple days ago on this, which got zero traction. We had about ten past nominees from far left dems in 2020, many with the free stuff ideas championed by AOC mamdani.
they all lost to the moderate.
now, five years later, after an embarrassing loss to trump, by a candidate widely viewed as running a woke campaign, the ultra left is fighting to control the party, when we need to bring back red leaning states to have any chance of a fourth liberal justice.
all the endless complaining on here, seventeen thousand posts yesterday about those horrible living conditions, but none on the maga left acknowledging the lefts blame, existing on both sides. Or how this is used to win back voters.
no one on the left has any clue how to get a chance at the senate, the only path to uphold the laws needed to stop this
edit, point is, its the democratic process that matters, especially when it’s ur central argument against trump.

Lerx you love to espouse that the Left is to blame for everything and then proceed to champion the meaty middle. Other than someone else's op ed in the WSJ acknowledging that Mamdani correctly appealed to the economic anxiety and then said it was the wrong approach and that tax relief is the way forward, you haven't really posted what dems SHOULD do to win back the moderates. Where, in your opinion (not AI generated), do you think Dems need to position themselves to win back the middle?

Also, I'm sorry to keep name dropping Mamdani. I have no skin in the game seeing as I don't live in NYC. But I do think hes been incredibly successful at reaching out to people that Dems ignore with policies that people have found appealing. And I find his approach and his success as a litmus test for a broader approach in future elections.
More than happy to contrast him with my mayor (Brandon Johnson, also a progressive) who has seen minimal success and is seen as a disappointment even on the progressive left.

good thing Biden watches morning Joe every day, just like me…
Biden’s attention: the hosts of “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, which the president watched every morning.

but expecting dems/Ocasiocrats, to be honest about the leaders health and mental capacity, and allowing people to vote for the nomination, having an actual democracy, which was their fucking argument against trump , that gets three fucks in eight words from you lol.
the bias here is intense and astoundingYour bias is astounding
in case u don’t understand, consider one poster here, Hal, allowed to make a million jokes. If not two millionBut when a centrist does it, must have some other meaning than the words typed. She is the proclaimed leader of the far left. The joke is, she has no path in the current political climate. Yet she keeps going farther left
you are maga left. Say hi to them.
lol if i am maga left, you are maga centrist then. militantly clinging to positions that have no constituency. hope you like treading water in a place where there are policies literally nobody wants.
It's putting together her name and the party she wants to control
That's a ton of respect. Do you ever take one second and attack the jokes or parody that Hal puts on this forum?
No you never do because your bias is astounding0 -

But I do think hes been incredibly successful at reaching out to people that Dems ignore with policies that people have found appealing. And I find his approach and his success as a litmus test for a broader approach in future elections.
More than happy to contrast him with my mayor (Brandon Johnson, also a progressive) who has seen minimal success and is seen as a disappointment even on the progressive left."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

His success was surprising but it could have more to do with people not liking what Cuomo did. Primaries get extremely low voter turnout. I know in this case you'll be able to find something that says this is the best Primary turnout in a long time. But it's still a primary in the summer with fractional turnout
I live in the suburbs so I don't get a chance to vote against him however I do have significant skin in the game..
one area the city loves to attack for extra revenue is something they call a Commuter tax. They did away with that a long time ago but they always bring it up when they need money.
So for those of us living in the suburbs they could come after us for more taxes to pay for their free daycare and travel
The point is there's no such thing as free and he's promising giveaways to get ahead, and after last November quite frankly that's disgusting. Taxation without representation so others could get free stuff0 -
To further clarify they just came after the suburbs and the outer boro's for the congestion tax. I think it's not a terrible idea but it is asking people outside the city center to fund the city transit
another way they do this is they charge extremely higher rates per mile for public transportation the further you live from the city. And completely out of scale. If you were to calculate the cost per mile to take public transportation in the metropolitan area, people living outside the city pay three to four to five times higher per mile.
We already subsidize the city plenty, and someone like mandami is going to do politics that just doesn't sell to the Country; and the Republicans are going say socialism doesn't work, white Democrats make this the hopeful direction of the party. It's like no one is paying attention to how elections work, even in 2020 when a moderate won0 -

i don't attack his jokes because he usually attacks people in power or republicans, and that is funny. punching on people that support what ocasio-cortez supports is not funny. its pathetic."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
