The departure of Matt means the end of Pearl Jam for me. I still may see them if they are close and I score 10C tickets. But I will not be working very hard to attend a concert without Matt. And I will not pay $250 a ticket to see a replacement.
I agree with you completely. The news to me was devastating, in that the band I’ve known and loved, is essentially over. Cameron made them a better band. He was their engine. He was their heartbeat. And he was powerful. They will never be the same again.
You're paying to see 4 of the original members. I love Matt but to not see a band because their 5th drummer is no longer there doesn't make a lot of sense.

I think a lot of people are underestimating what a change like this could mean at this point in the band’s timeline. (Especially considering we don't know why this is happening.)

I think people are underestimating their ability to find a drummer than could nail down 100 songs to put in rotation.
A new drummer might impact how they approach new material, but since my top 5 albums are all ten-yield anyway, and the fact they put out about 2 albums a decade, songwriting without MC isn’t a big concern for me.
All I really hope for at this point in their career is a chance to see them every few years and play the songs I’ve loved for over 30 years. There are drummers out there that can make that happen.

I agree which was my point earlier. Is this time to hang it up? They want to take a 2 year hiatus. They are 60. Bodies wont feel better, voices wont get better in 2 years. They will continue to decline

No way for me. They’ve just put out their best album in around 20 years and their live shows are still the best you’ll see. There’s so many bands who continue playing way beyond 60.
They need a hiatus to get a new drummer in and settled. It might freshen them up mentally to have a break. But if they’re willing, who wouldn’t want a new record and tour?

The band still has a lot of life left and I don't see any reason not to get a great new drummer and keep going. Bodies and voices in 2 years time, still can be in good shape if they are in good shape and I see no reason why they wouldn't be
They probably already have a drummer in mind and are looking at rehearsals. I see them coming out ok on this . Matt just wanted to slow down and be with Family and sideproject stuff . Is my thoughts

Pj just released an absolute peach of a record It's so so good. The dm tour was amazing Yes its a kick in the bollox that Matt is gone But this band are not done yet. So much to offer. Can't wait to see them go again with a new drummer. Every decision they make is made with meticulous planning and thought .bring it on. And please come back to Europe. Personally I have total faith any decisions they make will be the right ones.
i wish i wish i wish i wish, i guess it never stops
Matt definitely went out with a banger. I still listen to DM in regular rotation. People crap on Watt’s production, but he really did unleash Matt on this record. I wish there was more to come.
What’s the two year thing about? I doubt they want to have someone join the band only to sit around with their thumb in their butt for that long.
There are a lot of factors that could be the cause of a 2 year wait. If their choice is an active gigging drummer, then there may be other obligations that they need to take care of before they can get in with PJ. People seem to be talking about a potential EV solo tour. That could delay things. Plus the practice time required for things to be tight with a catalog as big as PJ. Maybe they wanna write some new music too. This last record they talked about how awesome it was to get into a studio all together and work collaboratively on the album. Sometimes its hard to get everybody's schedules aligned. Whatever the reasons are, I don't think its because anyone will be sitting around with their thumb up their butt. LOL

People who crap on Watt's production have way too much free time on their hands.

I think any new hire that takes the job will be baling on most of their commitments that are more than a few months out.
