It would be really cool if it was Krusen or any of the other alumni.

I’d like to see them go the Primus route. Not necessarily having an Interstellar Drum Derby (though that’d be awesome), but finding a younger guy that’s a pro’s pro musician and a fan of the band.
    Agree.
Sorry to see Matt depart but loved his time.
Someone totally unrelated might be exciting/fun.
El estepario double bass and 5x tempo would be awesome.

The love he receives is the love that is saved

It would be so odd to announce Matt is leaving the band and then announce that you’re done touring.  If that’s the case, you just say you’re done touring.  Why even mention Matt?  Maybe a mix of all the guys mentioned, but that almost gets too messy.  Someone younger that Ed picks.

Somebody young enough to stop comments about how their age will impact their endurance while touring.

The three that stand out are Krusen, Freese and Klinghoffer. Krusen for sentimental reasons, Freese for overall skill/versatility and Klinghoffer for convenience as he's been touring with them.

Freese is 52. Krusen 59-so hopefully
both are young enough to be considered.

I'd like to hear Krusen play Jack's parts as his playing feels at the back of the beat like Jack. Same with how Matt suited Dave A's parts more IMO.

I’d like to see Krusen get a chance.  He mentioned in an interview last year that he looks back at that time fondly but also has always felt like he’s had a little unfinished business and would be interested in doing something creative with the band again.  Would be nice to see things come full circle.

I wouldn't mind seeing Brendan Canty from Fugazi get a shot. But I feel like wouldn't want to do it. And I think they'll end up going younger.

So to recap some of the nominations:

    -Nobody/rotation
    -Klinghoffer
    -Dave A
    -Dave K
    -Stuverud
    -Smith
    -Weiss
    -Bordin
    -Bonham
    -Starkey
    -Irons

Am I missing any? And with apologies, I haven’t heard of all of them - if any were jokes let me know.

I like the nostalgia of one of the previous guys coming back.
I have a better chance of being named the replacement than Dave A. And I don’t even play drums.

Here’s a new one: Abe Laboriel Jr. He’s played with a ton of different artists and I was really enthralled when he played with Ed and the Earthlings at Ohana.
I was just coming here to say this. He was great. But I do have to add a Go Ducks:)

I don’t see Jack coming back. He left the first time because of the touring schedule. I am not sure how adding another 27 yrs would help.

Kris Myers (formerly of Umphrey's McGee) would be the perfect choice.   He is technically plenty capable to play any of the parts , develop unique grooves in the pocket similar to the Irons era, and also can provide outstanding backing vocals.
As a huge Umphrey’s guy, I agree with all of this. Hell, I’ve seen him play Release live.

I thought the same thing at first. But maybe playing 10 shows over 2 months instead of 70 shows over 6 months makes a difference to him. Definitely a much easier touring schedule now.

Matt Chamberlain seems an obvious choice. If I recall correctly he already plays with Stone in Painted Shield, he's already been albeit briefly, a Pearl Jam drummer and coming back would fit in with Ed's love of all things circling back and coming around together, and even based on aesthetics not only a "Matt" but a "MC" behind the drumkit he's a natural slot for the 5-10 years the band have left. However I'd love for it to be a younger drummer if only to mean a return to the 3 hour sets.

Maybe depends on what the bands plans are.

5 or so more years with 1 album and 2 or 3 tours then one of the previous guys.

Just keep going until they can't do it anymore then someone younger

Dave Krusen, Sarah Jones, Abe, Nic Collins, or Stuverud. Matt Chamberlain might leave to play for a tv show again.

Dave Krusen just shared on Instagram that he's going to be "chatting about the Pearl Jam drummer situation" on KISW tomorrow.

I don't think I can listen to it in Europe so if any of you could record it and share it here it would be great!

Id absolutely love to see dave krusen get the gig. Be a huge full circle moment for the band
The 5 original lads back together.  Would be beautiful.

Personally would love to see Jack return which would be a full circle moment of sorts in terms of what Matt did back in 98. I don’t think it will happen though.

Krusen is also a full circle choice. I can see this one happening potentially. Abbruzzese is just fantasy football stuff but you never know - oasis reunion, Slash and Axl making up, Frusciante returning to RCHP etc.

If they choose a / a bunch of studio and touring drummers, Matt Chamberlain would be great. Otherwise don’t really care too much.

It's a shock to see MC leave the band. Really didn't expect it. No Code and Gigaton are both my favourite albums on most days and the drumming stands out on both, so I would love to see Jack return, but also doubt it.
Krusen would be nice, indeed. I just wish for someone who will push the band creatively, as well. They were nice, but please no more throwback homages. Let's see.
