I'm turning 61 and was hoping to work to 70 to maximize my SS... but that's probably not gonna be there for me
it will be there....I'm planning on pulling at my full retirement age

it seems like living to 80 is the mark where benefits at your full retirement age match cumulative benefits when you wait until age 70.

If folks have a 401k that they don’t need to touch if claiming SS early, and it averages 7% return, there is no way to break even by deferring SS, even if we live to 90.

Heading down to the Orlando area in 2 days. Going to look at 3 more apartments, and make our decision on which one to rent for 12 months.

I’m down here right now. Looked at 10 apartments on Monday and 9 houses/townhomes tomorrow.  Need to decide what makes the most financial sense. Winter Garden, Horizon West to be specific.  Have lived here before.  Small world (no pun) if our paths crossed.
We loved what we saw in Winter Garden. We have narrowed it down to 2 or 3 places, but like I said, we are going to look at a few more in the next few days.

Kathy is going to keep working for 2 years, hopefully from home most of time. Our house will hopefully be officially up for sale within the next 3-4 weeks. All the major work has been finished. Gonna have a pod delivered and start loading it up with our belongings. Also going to get a small dumpster delivered and load that up with garbage and the furniture that we are not taking with us. Im paying someone to drive the pod down to Florida. The price was much cheaper than I was thinking it would be.

Hopefully the next 3-8 weeks go smoothly.
Im not really worried about the house selling. It’s going to sell quickly.

That’s exciting!! Best of luck. I’m not too far behind. I’m done with nyc. Can’t take the weather anymore amongst many other things. Narrowed down to Melbourne or Stuart Florida. Hoping by December to have an apartment rented. If everything works out and we love it, we’ll be on the hunt for an ocean front condo.

    Keep us updated!
Right on! The housing market in Florida is tanking. Im in no hurry to buy. Ill rent a year, make sure we are happy, and then we will make our next move. Being an hour or so from The Gulf, Cocoa Beach, and Daytona(Although I wasn't impressed with Daytona our last trip), sounds perfect.

Good for you for making the move. You only live once.
Yea dude I’m in no rush. Theres an abundance of inventory. Again, good luck and keep us updated!
The Florida housing is ridiculous. I've watched the prices plummet over the last 12 months. But finding single family homes in the area we want, that DO NOT have HOA, isn't easy. Its a whole different world down there.
but for Gods sake stay away from the Villages!
Nah, I think Speedy should get a place in The Villages and put a huge pineapple on the front stoop.
    This weekend we rock Portland

Everyone is different. Strange right? I love the heat and humid. Traffic? lol. I can’t get anywhere living in NYC. The traffic is a joke and it’s worse than EVER. Affordability? You cannot rent a shitty (legal)  studio for under 2k. Forget about 2 bedrooms. The winter? I’m done. Cannot and will not do one more. I’d rather live through 4 months of Florida summer than 9 months of northeast winter. I’m a coastal guy, I love the ocean. There’s risks everywhere in the world. Every state has issues. It’s all relative to what you want and where you lived before. None of the negative stuff I hear scares me one bit.

Im glad I was born and raised in Brooklyn. Wouldn’t have it any other way. But at this point in my life, I know what makes me happy. I’m lucky to have the means to live the way I feel most happy.

I live in Chicago. Im kind of familiar with traffic.
I drove a semi through every major city in the nation for 30 years. Im kind of familiar with traffic.
But its the Central Florida traffic that's going to push me over the edge? Bwahahahaha

There’s literally no such thing as rush hour anymore where I live. It’s just 24/7. I don’t know where people are going every hour all day, everyday. It’s nuts.

Traffic? I truly plan on spending 5-7 days lounging at the pool, or sitting in air conditioning. Maybe some fresh water fishing excursions once every couple weeks. A couple evenings a week at Epcot.
And truly that's about it. Haha

I really don't see myself battling to much traffic throughout the week. Unless I need to run to the liquor store for more fresh fruit for my pool side cocktails.

Same. I plan on living on the beach or down the block from it so no more stand still traffic 3-5 days a week on the way to the beach for me.

I could do the Keys or maybe the Sanibel area during winter. I could never live there in the summer. The rest of Florida? Not so much. We will most likely stay in Westchester County, New York . My dream would be to have a place in Montreal for the summer and a place in the Keys for the winter. With a boat. Not sure we can swing that. Most likely we stay in NY and travel when we want.

I do like the Keys, but I have to imagine that would be quite expensive.

Just don’t grab the alligator’s tail thinking it’s the hose. Or the anaconda’s tail. They all look the same down there. Especially at night.

Pretty sure when I get down there, this will be my 1st purchase. That's if
    The heat
    Humidity
    Traffic
    Insurance
    Hurricanes
    Locusts
    Covid
    Republicans
    Etc
    Don't kill me 1st.
You'll be swinging in that baby.

Heading down to the Orlando area in 2 days. Going to look at 3 more apartments, and make our decision on which one to rent for 12 months.

Yeah, traffic? Im supposed to be terrified of the Central Florida traffic? Hahaha
I live in Chicago. Im kind of familiar with traffic.
I drove a semi through every major city in the nation for 30 years. Im kind of familiar with traffic.
But it’s the Central Florida traffic that's going to push me over the edge?

We found a place to call home for the next year. Brand new, never lived in, beautiful pool, etc. When we get back home today we will start the application process.

I was happy to survive the last 4 days without the traffic, locusts, or alligators ending my life.
    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
