    That's why I'm questioning it... Until tempo posted that Yale study, I've only heard that # from the same guy who speculated that unemployment might really be as high as 40% when he was campaigning in 2016, so I'm skeptical... as we all should be. 
    I've heard the 20m used as a high for years.  You figure they've been crossing the border for 60 years or so.  20 mil isn't out of possibility.
    Sure it's possible...  I'm entertaining it & asking if there's data to back it up. That Yale study doesn't specify 20M from the south, and frankly, the assertion sounds like a MAGA talking point that people have heard so many times they now outright believe it.  

    It bears repeating that the same guy who uses that 20M figure also tried to claim unemployment was as high as 40% in 2016, so skepticism is warranted.

    Because that was a rough guess that wasn’t far off. So it’s closer to 9 million that are from south of the border, instead of 11 (and that’s using the low total estimates, some are much higher) compared to a few hundred thousand from Europe. Doesn’t really change much does it? If you’re going to reduce illegal immigration are you going to focus on the 9 million or the 400,000?

    It's laid out pretty clearly. Of the estimated unauthorized population (11,047,000) less than 4% originated from Europe/Canada/Oceania (440,000). Given these estimates, which demographic would you expect to see affected the most by deportations? Politics aside, just based on critical thought.

    The point about the European immigrants isn't completely invalid... POTUS didn't run his platform on reducing illegal immigration; he ran it on building a wall along the southern border and stoking fear of the people coming across it. 

    If reducing illegal immigration is the goal, and roughly 40%* of immigrants that are here illegally are a result of expired visas, then it stands to reason there's a significantly disproportionate amount of time spent focused on the southern border; enough to make one think this is less about fixing immigration as it is something else.

    We need immigration reform, no doubt about it, but this isn't it. The way they’re carrying out this immigration policy by literally snatching people off the streets is not only inhumane and, you know, fascist, it's also a pretty serious abdication of due process.
