There is like 20 million from the south. It's shear numbers difference. ICE claims they are deporting Europeans but you won't find any stories on it because it isn't newsworthy.
I tend to believe that it’s because it ain’t happening since all the focus is on the Spanish immigrants, not sure if it’s the same by you but out here in Smithtown most not all barbershops are run by Eastern European immigrants not saying they are all illegal but I’m sure some overstay their visas

Same. They have the barbershop/gold and pawn shops here, lol.
20 million is the garbage number that maga keeps spewing. You know if that number was real, trump would be saying it was 3 times that amount.
Yale is not MAGA. Read the article i posted. 20M is very realistic.
sorry, we're actually talking about two different things here. MAGA says that biden let in 22 million, which is the horseshit I was referring, my bad for not being clear.

Is there a source for those #s?
I could be wrong, but I think the Center for Migration Studies and the Department of Homeland Security's most recent estimates of undocumented immigrants in the US was < 12M, and that's total, not just from the south.
The 12m is estimated. There are other sources that say as many as 20m which I think is more accurate. they recorded 12 million in the past 10 years. Thats only what they recorded or have record of.
I gave it a quick read at lunch; they do speculate there could be 22M in America, but that was an overall estimate; I didn't see anything specific to points of origin though, or specifically anything to back up the claim that there's "20M from the south".
The last couple of paragraphs are interesting:
“One of the most common arguments in favor of a tougher immigration policy is that undocumented immigrants are coming with a lot of criminality,” Kaplan notes. But paradoxically, the new findings may undercut that argument. He points out that previous studies, based on the widely accepted total of 11.3 million undocumented immigrants, found that the rate of serious crimes committed by these immigrants is lower than for U.S. citizens. The new findings suggest that the rate is even lower than previously believed: “You have the same number of crimes but now spread over twice as many people as was believed before, which right away means thatthe crime rate among undocumented immigrants is essentially half whatever was previously believed.”
With respect to the idea that undocumented immigrants take job opportunities from citizens, Kaplan points to different possible interpretations of the new findings. “The fact that there are actually more people here than we thought before might explain that, but you can also look at it the other way: whatever job displacement there has been happened with twice as many undocumented immigrants as we thought. That causes you to rethink just how much pressure there is.”
As is typical with academic work, this finding is not an endpoint. Feinstein says, “Hopefully, these results spur further thinking.”

That's why I'm questioning it... Until tempo posted that Yale study, I've only heard that # from the same guy who speculated that unemployment might really be as high as 40% when he was campaigning in 2016, so I'm skeptical... as we all should be.

I've heard the 20m used as a high for years. You figure they've been crossing the border for 60 years or so. 20 mil isn't out of possibility.

Sure it's possible... I'm entertaining it & asking if there's data to back it up. That Yale study doesn't specify 20M from the south, and frankly, the assertion sounds like a MAGA talking point that people have heard so many times they now outright believe it.
It bears repeating that the same guy who uses that 20M figure also tried to claim unemployment was as high as 40% in 2016, so skepticism is warranted.

You COOTWH supporters proud of this? Make you feel good? Help you to sleep at night? Thinking your white privilege will protect you? From A Letter From An American:
“In…earlier rulings, the court cleared the way for the government to treat as many as a million migrants as removable who previously weren’t,” legal analyst Steve Vladeck told Angélica Franganilla Díaz and John Fritze of CNN. “And today’s ruling allows the government to remove those individuals and others to any country that will take them—without providing any additional process beyond an initial removal hearing, and without regard to the treatment they may face in those countries.”

Those countries barely have any laws or regulations for governing they can force you to slave labor!
12 million is still a huge number, and the point still stands. Are you going to target the source of the 11 million or the source of a few hundred thousand?

Roughly 40% of the people who are here illegally overstayed their visas as compared to crossing the border illegally, but go off about the source of your 11 million.

And the question was why don’t we target European immigrants. I agree that the answer is obvious.
So, based on this screenshot right here, how do you come up with "11 million [vs] a few hundred thousand"?
Because that was a rough guess that wasn’t far off. So it’s closer to 9 million that are from south of the border, instead of 11 (and that’s using the low total estimates, some are much higher) compared to a few hundred thousand from Europe. Doesn’t really change much does it? If you’re going to reduce illegal immigration are you going to focus on the 9 million or the 400,000?

It's laid out pretty clearly. Of the estimated unauthorized population (11,047,000) less than 4% originated from Europe/Canada/Oceania (440,000). Given these estimates, which demographic would you expect to see affected the most by deportations? Politics aside, just based on critical thought.

Everyone should be focused on not just the brown people who came across the southern border. However, the cult is hyperfixated on only those people because of 2 very simple reasons. Racism and xenophobia.

Come on. We're not seriously entertaining the idea that European immigrants aren't also a problem, but we also don't know the reason why the right doesn't mention them?

The point about the European immigrants isn't completely invalid... POTUS didn't run his platform on reducing illegal immigration; he ran it on building a wall along the southern border and stoking fear of the people coming across it.
If reducing illegal immigration is the goal, and roughly 40%* of immigrants that are here illegally are a result of expired visas, then it stands to reason there's a significantly disproportionate amount of time spent focused on the southern border; enough to make one think this is less about fixing immigration as it is something else. * https://cmsny.org/correcting-record-false-misleading-statements-on-immigration/
We need immigration reform, no doubt about it, but this isn't it. The way they’re carrying out this immigration policy by literally snatching people off the streets is not only inhumane and, you know, fascist, it's also a pretty serious abdication of due process.
My hot take is only immigrants committing crimes are a problem. Central/south Americans, Caribbeaners, Europeans, come live here spend money and contribute to our society. Who gives a shit how you got here.
A longtime government lawyer told Congress that Justice Department leaders planned to knowingly defy court orders and withhold information from judges to advance the Trump administration's aggressive deportation goals, according to a newly published whistleblower complaint. The lawyer, Erez Reuveni, previously won awards and commendations over nearly 15 years at the Justice Department, including from Republican appointees in the first Trump administration. But he was put on leave and then fired in April after he told a federal judge an immigrant had been deported in error.

There are people that do feel that way and then there are the older guard that will tell you their (insert relative here) came over legally and struggled to make it.

I don't believe in an open border.
I think the very concept of a border at all is kind of absurd. And if we’re talking god-fearing christians here, I don’t think their god intended on the earth he gifted them to be divided up and sold to the richest among them.

Obviously no borders isn’t practical in today’s society, but when you really break it down…
hey, where do you think you’re going? over there you can’t go there why not? cuz it’s not your land Well whose land is it?
Well, nobody’s, but you still can’t come here why not? see that imaginary line? You can’t cross it unless you have a book with your picture in it a book with my picture in it?
