Just make it a random assignment day of show. This occurred in Austin in 2023. The ability for a fan to maybe get upfront just once in their touring days should not be predicated by sleeping on the street. Frankly GA should get booted altogether, it’s become a regular occurrence where someone or a few someone's collapse during the show. If GA remains they need to do a check on people's heart rate and intoxication before they get a wrist band.
In Austin it wasn’t random. We lined up all night and they gave us numbered wristbands the next morning in the order of the line. Then we went back later in the day and lined up and got in according to our numbers. It was still first come first served for getting the the numbers and getting into the venue.
I agree that too many people are having some type of issue that pauses the show. It seems to be people near the middle or back of GA who maybe spent the day partying before going in. I have never seen it happen to any of the people who were camping out. It also happens to people in the stands. Maybe they should check everyone’s intoxication level before coming in if you think that will work.
You had to be in line to get the random allotment, and then return at time of entry to keep that, if you skipped it yes you missed out. I know that some of you created your own line despite the venue/university trying to forbid it. I wasn't saying it was perfect or looking to implicate anyone, but it is the better template for doing it right. I didn't say that campers were the problem for intoxication, I said GA in general it is a bad idea for aging fans that have impulse control not to have seats.
Raleigh I was able to get rail for the last couple of songs due to people leaving to get back in line for the next night.
I just don't get it. Its pretty wild to camp out for 2 nights (the norm now thanks to the competitiveness of this group to be on the bump) but not stay for the whole show.
I had the same thing happen on Night 1 at the Forum last year. We got to move up for the last three songs. Ed handed me a basketball and offered me his wine bottle. (I don't drink so he gave it to my friend.)
And the people who left didn't even end up first in line for the next night.
Signed ball?
Signed by the band. He had given it to a kid further back in the pit earlier in the show, but then held it for him for safekeeping. He asked me to pass it back to the kid and said "now don't you take it." I think my honest execution of that task was what prompted him to offer me the wine bottle to take home. I wonder if anyone else has ever declined it. I put my hands up to say no thanks and he looked nonplussed, and then I made a straight-edge symbol and he nodded in appreciation and gave the bottle to my friend.

Sorry I misunderstood. Since most of these posts are piling on the campers and not the other people in GA, I thought you were referring to them. Sorry.
I saw a video on IG of Ed spotlighting the front row and calling out the regulars who keep them on their toes. I assume he was seeing the same faces for nearly a month lol. Maybe the band is in on it haha
I’m not sure people passing out is a PJ problem. I’ve seen it at a lot of shows the last couple years. I think it’s underestimating the strength of what they’re consuming.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

That was in Pittsburgh. He was mentioning how great the community is and how people travel to see them. And how we are all going to miss each other when it ends. I don’t know the exact wording but it was nice. He was definitely giving recognition to those that travel to all the shows. When the Pitt2 bootleg comes out I will listen to the exact wording.

People should not be passing out at indoor shows. Especially now that the fan base is older. People in their 40s and 50s passing out drunk is embarrassing. And I drink before and during shows but know my limits and never pass that limit. There is a huge difference between enjoying adult beverages and being sad and pathetic.

C'mon now! Adults have expanded their repertoire for being sad and pathetic well beyond drunken idiocy. Some of that has been well detailed in this thread alone

No he was definitely praising the audience and the folks up front. Like I said, I think they like seeing familiar faces and obviously know the friendships and relationships that have grown out of it. It was right before Faithful and looks like he handed something (harmonica maybe?) to a women in the front.

The harmonica was posted in a thread somewhere because that is indeed what was given to them.
GA's gonna GA regardless of situation, but a random draw for rail spots would be a fun mix. People who line up still are close, and a chunk of lucky ones bump up to the absolute front. Problem is how that would be administered universally by all venues... unless they randomly select and upgrade people to a "VIP" GA through their mobile tickets.
That's the downside of course correcting GA - venues do things differently and makes it inconsistent/unpredictable. Some do numbered wristbands to avoid camping all day, other venues line up all day without a numbering system.
PJ security could just as well walk the line and pull random people to the front - but even if they did that people would still assume favoritism.

I got a harmonica - but it was Pitt1. It may have been a pick or a wine bottle on N2. He had a few wine bottles up there.

I like the idea of giving out wristbands/numbers and then at say 5pm, drawing a number. If they draw #200? Then #200 is FIRST IN LINE, #201 is SECOND IN LINE, and so on. Seems pretty simple.
Nobody needs to sleep on the streets for 48 hours. EVERYBODY gets a fair chance at the rail. No chance of people cutting in line. IN THEORY.
Other bands use a similar system. Correct?
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....

Springsteen did it when the whole floor was g.a. and there was a 500 person pit. Worked great.

Yeah, it seems to me there are better ways to run this GA LINE. Having people sleep on the streets and POLICE THEMSELVES? That's just ridiculous.

Yes, Ed has seen these faces at many shows throughout the entire DM tour ‘24/25. They are known to gather, reconnecting from around the country/world, for PJ tours. They have built relationships with security too. All that being said, Ed does say this speech before Faithfull regularly. But he was recognizing their connection with each other (missing each other after the tour) as well as their “faithfulness” to the band.
And all of us who are not on the rail who also travel and meet up and have meaningful relationships are chopped liver? You like to sleep on a pillow made of concrete, ok, but that does not make you a better fan. Let others experience the rail too. Stop being a "regular" up front. It would be nice to see other faces in the tour videos.
Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue!

That’s weird I remember back when 10C decided to lot out rows 1&2 & 9&10 the reason given was that the band was tired of seeing the same folks up front at their shows! But now it’s not? So which is it?
