If it took the debate to question his decline, you weren't paying attention. People seem to think being hyper-focused on trump during biden’s term was doing them a favor. His presidency was greatly sheltered for a reason, and the majority of democrats didn’t even notice. I'm just glad the great awakening finally occurred, albeit far too late.

The last year of his presidency. The fact that the debate performance was so horrific, so off the charts terrible is evidence that they hid his condition. No one outside of hardcore republicans saw that coming, and I think even trump was surprised it was that bad, based on his reactions during the debate.. Also, administration members now fighting back Tappers book are “anonymous” not willing to go on the record when defending Biden. Interesting.

Not interested in this at all at this point.
Not interested in what?  Understanding that Joe Biden was in severe decline and people tried to hide it despite him being unfit to be president?   Seems pretty important...and I will say it seemed obvious to anyone that wasn't a Dem lemming.
I'm not a Dem lemming (or maybe I am?) and I think it's bullshit.

My dad has early dementia and Joe Biden is no where near that. Biden is still able to give speeches (he just did a week ago) and yes, he's old, he stutters, he loses his thoughts, etc., but "severe decline" is a stretch.

no lemming here. Agree. He still speaks with more conviction and knowledge than Trump ever has.
Ah here we go again….back to Trump.

i also didn’t and do not think Trump is fit to be president.  He’s mentally unstable in a different way. But the Biden issue was clear for anyone to see that cared to.
but the discussion relates to whether Biden was a better choice than trump....

Lol exactly. It always goes back to The Dancing Bear Routine. Dems are expected to be perfect while the bar is set incredibly low for Rs.

Every trump speech or press conference is a constant barrage of lies/untruths/exaggerations, etc.

Now trump is using this new Biden attack as an excuse...things are bad because the dems hid Biden's issues from us. Has nothing to do with trump's tariff bullshit or trump's horrible lack of leadership. Let's sell books for Tapper.

I'm not saying that Biden's condition isn't news but holy shit he dropped out.

I hear ya, but regardless this country is doomed because we are a mindless society that thinks because our institutional political system is set up to be a binary choice that apparently that means these choices are also weighted the same. Just absolute Idiocracy on the constant rise.

The Atlantic published a story by Mark Leibovich that discusses this whole cover-up angle and how you can't really call a cover-up what was there for all to see. The bigger issue was people lying about how "sharp" he was in meetings and behind closed doors. After Trump's term, I hope we can move past electing feeble old men barely hanging on to their minds, whether they're heartless bastards or creepy grandpa types. 12 years of that shit is way too long.

I'm talking about who was elected and ultimately Kamala was screwed because she was attached to Biden and had no way to separate herself from what was perceived as a "cover-up" regarding his cognitive functionality. I don't blame her because it's not like she could say, yeah, he's losing it, but let's keep him in until the election is over. This is a case where Biden needed to swallow his pride, step aside and put Kamala in charge until after the election. That scenario was never going to happen though.

Well...we saw that on TV a lot too. He was sharp at times. He was sharp a few weeks ago on live TV.

He didn't trail off from a speech and start talking about sharks and magnets or how millions of people were dying in Ukraine. Or how Ukraine started a war, etc.

He was sharp enough in his Howard Stern interview in late April of last year. I missed the debate as I was overseas when it aired, but I was pretty surprised seeing clips of it as compared to how he sounded only a few weeks prior. I'm not saying he didn't have a terrible debate, only that I was quite surprised in the difference between the two.

yeah and I agree the debate was awful....but only part of his responses were awful, his open mouthed gawking was probably the worst part

Best debate moments the past few elections: Mike Pence fly, Joe Biden mouth agape waiting for a fly, Donald Trump they're eating the cats and dogs, JD Vance you said you weren't going to fact check or Tim Waltz friends with school shooters?

But the Biden issue was clear for anyone to see that cared to.
that was just an add on, to highlight the fact that more people think biden is in worse condition than trump. both have been president.

forget the trump comparison. I still believe biden was fine. and these generalized statements of "fact" that "you'd see if you cared to" or "only those not in the dem cult could see it" are ridiculous. I pride myself on being a pretty objective person. He had some trouble in the debate, no doubt about it. But I've seen interviews with him several times since then. He can still talk policy circles around most.

Couldn't agree more. And again, I wish Biden would have bowed out gracefully in 2023 and cleared the way for a true primary.
