Not interested in this at all at this point.
Not interested in what?  Understanding that Joe Biden was in severe decline and people tried to hide it despite him being unfit to be president?   Seems pretty important...and I will say it seemed obvious to anyone that wasn't a Dem lemming.
And what do you think the goal is from the right on the issue?
The goal is to sell books. But as a reporter isn’t Tapper supposed to tell us what’s happening when it happens, not when he can sell a book?

It's obviously to smear a party that's already self-smearing; that said, his cognitive decline was hidden. It's pretty awful. Maybe worse than watergate. And I would have voted for him if the Dems had played Weekend at Bernie's with his corpse because of what was on the other side. But it was still despicable, not to mention outrageously poor strategy.

The GOP should hit this HARD in 2026. The Democratic Party is terrible. Sure, they're worse, but it's not their fault their devotees love it, and swing voters are susceptible to their message.

Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson titled their book Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again to reflect their central argument: that President Joe Biden’s decision to run for reelection in 2024, despite evident physical and cognitive decline, was a fundamental and catastrophic error akin to the theological concept of "original sin."

In Christian theology, original sin refers to the fall of Adam and Eve, an act of disobedience that tainted humanity with inevitable consequences. Similarly, the authors frame Biden’s choice to pursue a second term—coupled with efforts by his inner circle to conceal his deteriorating health—as the pivotal mistake that set off a chain of events leading to the Democrats’ defeat and Donald Trump’s return to power.

The title draws a parallel to Greek tragedy, where a protagonist’s attempt to avoid their fate seals it. Tapper and Thompson argue that Biden’s hubris, fueled by a belief that only he could defeat Trump, and the subsequent "gaslighting and denial" by his team, created a political tragedy. The term "original sin" encapsulates the initial, irreversible decision that, in their view, doomed the Democratic campaign, highlighting themes of accountability, deception, and the consequences of ignoring reality.
That’s an extraordinary reach. I know exactly what the original sin was. Dumb name.

Lol this is great. I think Jon is past his prime on some things but absolutely hits the nail on the head here. Really wish there was a new version of this show resonating these days:

I think he's still great and he was on fire on last night's episode. He skewers anyone who needs it and deserves it.
    It's a hopeless situation...

I imagine the right is wondering why it wasn't reported earlier. 🤷‍♂️

To each their own re: what we like - and this probably needs its own thread without driving this one into a ditch - but this is what I mean at least in regards to a newer version:

Well I have no plans to read it so that’s as much as I’ll have to say.

This is paywall but the published date is January 2024, before he came back. How have the ratings done since he was back?

Best performance in 10 years and I'll say even when Stewart isn't hosting, they have their best rotating anchor staff in years. I liked Trevor Noah, but the return of Stewart, even once a week, and the changing of the lead anchor every week is refreshing. Kosta, Desi and Ronnie have been great at the desk. I prefer Klepper's specials and correspondent roles better.

I still say - I think Jon Stewart would make an amazing DNC candidate, and likely a pretty good POTUS.

And does driving the point have the potential to backfire? Scold the press about not covering Biden’s cognitive decline while the current president yammers on about drones knocking down trees and all the prisons in Congo being empty. I know there’s no self-reflection in the party, but it may not go hiw they want it to.

I'm not a Dem lemming (or maybe I am?) and I think it's bullshit.

My dad has early dementia and Joe Biden is no where near that. Biden is still able to give speeches (he just did a week ago) and yes, he's old, he stutters, he loses his thoughts, etc., but "severe decline" is a stretch.

I hate people so much. I’m so glad I don’t have to listen to any political bullshit in my daily life unless I purposely subject myself to it here. Sorry you have to listen to nonsense like that.
