I saw one of the GNR shows in 2023 and while obviously Axl’s voice isn’t so great any more, they played a full energy 3 hour show, everything I could possibly have wanted to hear, and the music excluding the vocals was super well played. To each their own but I enjoyed the experience greatly.

I won’t say GNR, even tho that’s what it was booked as, but I say I just saw Axl back in like 2004 maybe? And he sounded great still. I’ll die on the hill that I’m glad I saw that over what they’re doing now…I’ll lose that battle every time. I know. I just see the videos of his voice recently and it kills it for me. I can’t do it. People love it tho, so whatever works!
I love seeing the chili peppers even tho I know Anthony is vocally maybe one of the worst frontmen, I get it.

I refer to that incarnation of the band as either "Guns N' Roses" (with the scare quotes) or Axl Rose's All-Star Guns N' Roses Tribute Band.

Yeah, those screens are not my thing but they did not diminish my show experience in 2024 one bit. For the most part, I didn't even notice them.

The shows I saw in 2024 were (by far) > the shows I saw in 2023.

I can see the screens making a difference for the arena shows where they're replacing that 360 degrees of fans vibe. However I haven't had the good fortune to see them indoors in 9 years so like whatever man.

I've seen GNR three time. Two shows were with the replacements, and the third was a reunion show in Seattle in 2016.

My favourite was the first show with the replacement. I think it was 2006. Axl still sounded pretty good and the show was a lot of fun. I do find it odd my favourite GNR show was with a replacement lineup, but it was pretty damn good. The show I saw in Seattle in 2016 was ok, but I didn't think he sounded as good, and the show seemed the opposite of spontaneous. It felt like they negotiated down to the T, how many minutes they interact with each other on stage, and which parts and with who... It was a solid show and I'm glad I went, but I haven't gone to another one, so I guess that says something

I feel the same. Only ever saw them once, August of ‘21 right after shows started back up. I’m glad i went, was a great experience, we were on the rail right in front of Duff, but i wouldn’t go see them again.

They are riding on the wave of a new album that has been widely received. Why wait 5 years for a 40th, when we they may not even be around then. Plus the band said to expect something special towards the end of year.

There’s nothing significant about 35 tho. I think that’s what you’re missing. Not that that’s not hard to do, but what’s to celebrate about that number specifically.

Twenty made sense. 40 makes sense. The “who knows what will happen” argument still doesn’t add any significance to the number 35.

Doesn’t have to be PJ35 related at all. It could just be a 30th Anniversary Soldier Field show, as last time they played Soldier Field was July 1995

Dead & Co played Cornell on the 46th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s legendary show there a few years ago. But that’s all i can think of.
