Neil Young stops with platinum tickets. Will Pearl Jam follow?

I know Eddie has defended the practise. But minds can change.

This just means more money to the secondary market brokers, right?

If the demand is there. I can't speak for every city but he hasn't been a tough ticket in New England over the years.

And I don't mean that with a negative connotation. He's done a good job of meeting demand with decisions on venue size, number of shows, etc.

But I do agree with the subtext. If that incremental revenue is out there let it flow to the people in charge of putting on and performing the show.

Yes and no. You have to figure that real fans will get some of the tickets that would otherwise be held as Platinum. Even if the success rate is really low and fans only get 10% of the tickets vs. scalpers getting 90%... I guess Neil is saying that if a few fans get better seats at lower cost and scalpers get to keep the proceeds for whatever they resell, he'd prefer that over just pocketing more money himself for a block of higher-priced tickets.

My hunch is PJ does Platinum so they can play the minimum number of shows to make whatever $ they need/desire to make it worth it. The demand is still there.  If it drops, maybe they'll do something different. We know they don't like to tour and with the cost of touring, most bands need to play quite a few shows before breaking even.  My guess is this is the bands approach to not having to play those extra shows to break even. That plus the merch sales helps them play a desired small number of shows that makes enough to cover costs, pay the crew, staff, and themselves.

I think they do platinum to give Ticketmaster more revenue for Ticketmaster agreeing to a much higher number of fan club tickets for PJ.

I agree that they go with platinum as a bargaining chip to get more fan club seats. Unfortunately, the F2F system is F'd this time around. The bigger concern is fixing F2F for the next tour not the question of platinum.

Well, if we're talking semantics there are no "Platinum Tickets" today because for some reason the band brands them as "PJ Premium"

That being said, I'm still unsure what the difference has been apart from the sting of hearing/reading "Platinum" on their Ticketmaster listings.

I can see it now - Neil Young introduces “Chrome” tickets to replace Platinum.

Neil also does Fan2Fan (aka not allowing Transfer of tickets, can only sell for face value on TM), so secondary market is only available in states that don’t allow resale restrictions (NY, IL and a handful of others). Yes there are ways around it, but it definitely cuts down on the amount of brokers because it is more of a process so many don’t bother.
That said, his standard ticket price for a relatively close seat is $261+ fees.

I doubt it has to do with love for the tenclub.

I think it has do with touring being more expensive, them having been unlucky with costly cancellations lately and mainly not touring enough to make money through quantity.

No one said ‘love of the Tenclub’. It’s pointing out there are negotiations for the tour… accept platinum/premium, they get more fanclub tickets. Don’t do premium, less fanclub or more expensive fanclub tickets.

Yes, it’s all about money in the end. If PJ premium goes away, I’d expect less fanclub seats and/or creating a tiered fanclub ticket purchase with GA/1st tier being more than $180 dollars.

Keep premium for all I care, just fix the F2F so it stays between fans or fanclub members.

If Neil’s F2F is the same TM F2F PJ is using for current tour, it is not doing a good job of keeping tickets out of brokers.
