My hunch is PJ does Platinum so they can play the minimum number of shows to make whatever $ they need/desire to make it worth it. The demand is still there.  If it drops, maybe they'll do something different. We know they don't like to tour and with the cost of touring, most bands need to play quite a few shows before breaking even.  My guess is this is the bands approach to not having to play those extra shows to break even. That plus the merch sales helps them play a desired small number of shows that makes enough to cover costs, pay the crew, staff, and themselves.
I think they do platinum to give Ticketmaster more revenue for Ticketmaster agreeing to a much higher number of fan club tickets for PJ.
I agree that they go with platinum as a bargaining chip to get more fan club seats. Unfortunately, the F2F system is F'd this time around. The bigger concern is fixing F2F for the next tour not the question of platinum.
This. I just want Fan Club tickets for Fan club members even if I miss out. Whether it's 100 tickets or 5000 tickets they shouldn't leave the club.

Well, if we're talking semantics there are no "Platinum Tickets" today because for some reason the band brands them as "PJ Premium"

That being said, I'm still unsure what the difference has been apart from the sting of hearing/reading "Platinum" on their Ticketmaster listings.
    A rose by another name.

I'm glad Neil is doing this but he's in the twilight of his career. I would hope PJ still has another 10-15 years in them. The math many be different.

I doubt it has to do with love for the tenclub.

I think it has do with touring being more expensive, they having been unlucky with costly cancellations lately and mainly not touring enough to make money on quantity.
No one said ‘love of the Tenclub’. It’s pointing out there are negotiations for the tour… accept platinum/premium, they get more fanclub tickets. Don’t do premium, less fanclub or more expensive fanclub tickets.

Yes, it’s all about money in the end. If PJ premium goes away, I’d expect less fanclub seats and/or creating a tiered fanclub ticket purchase with GA/1st tier being more than $180 dollars.

Keep premium for all I care, just fix the F2F so it stays between fans or fanclub members.

Thing is, if scalpers get tickets, they are by nature spread out all over the arena. Too many of the best seats in the house are being kept back for platinum tickets. Would love to see PJ push against this more than anything else.

This.  Do people think PJ is getting the number of fan club tickets they get without some concessions to Ticketmaster?  Ticketmaster is requiring something back.  My guess is PJ leaves money on the table.

The downside to this is if you're trying to get rid of extras and no one in this limited pool of potential buyers is interested. I think it's very tricky to engineer the precise outcomes we think we want.

Maybe trying to get rid of them at the last minute might have problems but ahead of time it shouldn’t be.

PJ isn’t ditching the premium pricing. Whoever is doing the pricing for Young must of screwed up and over estimated demand. I think that’s why he’s going out against it. I checked earlier today. PIT tickets to the closest show is $227. The platinum seats are $750-950. Standard seats behind platinum are $315.00 Most venues still have hundred of seats plus the lawns.

Sounds good on paper. If he thinks Robert Smith was right, then reduce your prices. Neil's prices have always been high. As long as ticket prices and supply are controlled by Ticketmaster, the consumer loses. And I think Pearl Jam has given in to this process. Just make 10C tix non-transferable and end this F2F nonsense.

He currently still has the "Top Seat 1" for € 491.50 in the front rows.
