The best PJ show is the one you're currently in the crowd for -- watching as it unfolds in front of you.

I was telling someone in the merch line last year that the guys could come out and play my 25 least favorite songs and I'd still have a fucking blast. They're consummate professionals and while we can argue about setlist and crowd and all that, they give everything every night -- seem to take pride in making sure the crowd gets something to remember.
It's all subjective anyway... one person's favorite show ever might be the next person's least for reasonz.

Dublin '24 was as much a greatest hits set as I've seen but the energy from the crowd was off the charts. You won't necessarily get that from the bootleg, and you absolutely won't get that from reading the setlist. On paper it was a pretty lackluster show, but in person it was phenomenal.

Eh. Those of us at Worcester 2 2013 who had also been there the night before knew we weren't seeing as good a show. Doesn't mean it wasn't a good show or a fun show, but it also wasn't the best as it was happening.

Worcester 1 was insane. I think Eddie drank as much Borolo as I did beers and it affected Night 2.

Even on an off night, they still gave us Other Side. Worcester for the win!

If I’m understanding the internet correctly, N1 had Last Kiss, Crazy Mary and Sonic Reducer near the end of the show. Have nothing against any of those songs, but PJ has about a hundred self written tunes I’d rather hear towards the end of any show. Apologies if I’ve mixed the nights.

This is why you can't judge a show by the setlist...

Ed didn't have it @ N2. People said he got shattered the night before so he may have been hung over. (N1 was an epic show by all accounts) .

Long story short, the energy from the band just wasn't there, it was as lackluster a show as I've ever seen out of them.

The encore for Austin 2 in ‘23 was one of my favorite PJ moments and people on the forum were saying it looked boring because it was just all the hits. It was all the hits, played great, one after the other. Tore the roof off.

I felt that way at the beginning of Fenway 2 this past year. Elderly Woman into Even Flow (but awesome in the 2 hole) then Animal and I think followed by Daughter. All hits. But I said to my buddy “Holy shit, they got the energy going and they’re not letting it go”.

I get annoyed when people complain about the hits.  In the moment when you are at that show and they bring the hits it’s still great entertainment.  If people can’t enjoy Alive in the moment maybe it’s time to see another band

I don’t enjoy Alive anymore. I still sing it but move it around. Even Flow and Porch early in the set was cool. Close the main set with Alive and I’ll go crazy again

Yeah it seems his tour was laid out exactly for that reason. Two shows in a city with a dead day in between shows -- no travel, no show. I know it makes travel a little harder for people who need to stay three nights instead of two, but I think it's great they're at a point in their career where they can say "yeah no back-to-back shows this leg".

Yeah, but i actually like the day off in between. Gives me a day to recoup and hang out with other PJ fans.

Interesting tidbit here... by all accounts, Worcester N1 was a banger, and Ed tied one on pretty good from what I heard, but maybe he was sick., IDK.
N2 was a great night, there's no such thing as a bad PJ show, but it's easily one of my least favorites.

I agree with this. I don't ever need to hear "Even Flow" again but, if they changed things up, I'm sure I'd enjoy it more. If they opened with it, I'd be a lot more excited to hear it because I'm always excited when the show starts. If they started the encore with it, or played it to close the show-- just something to get it out of the routine of "we're 8-to-12 songs into the set, so it's time for a song where Ed gets to take a three-minute break while Mike solos." And absolutely: move "Alive" around. It used to be perhaps my favorite song to hear live, and it has become so perfunctory. And if you're going to play "hits"-- and you should, there are a lot of people who are there for that-- mix it up. How about a tour where "Jeremy" gets played every night instead of "Even Flow"? There's also no rule that says that you must play an early deep cut once and then abandon it. Playing a run of ten shows? Play "Garden" at five of them. Play "Immortality" at five of them. People would like it.

(These are minor complaints, if you even want to call them that. I loved the sets at the spring 2024 shows, individually and collectively.)
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Oh so do I! I think having that day makes it better for fans AND the band -- I was just acknowledging that for traveling folks it is an extra hotel night, and maybe another day off work.

Keep in mind if you are in the US and try to sell Canadian show tickets on F2F… it is a pain in the ass to get paid.  A few of us were waiting a very long time and still ended up getting a Canadian check mailed to us after all was said and done
