I'm just happy they're still playing. 14 year old me in 1991 would have never dreamed I'd still be getting the chance to see these guys 34 years later (or that I'd even be alive). What a band. Soundtrack of my life. Long may they tour, in whatever venue/city they wish, for as many days as they'd like.
Wait, when you were 14, you would have never dreamed that you'd live to be 48?
Someone on a PJ message board not understanding this is confusing to me to be honest
It was the expression "never would have dreamed." That seemed a little dramatic. I grew up in the inner city at a time of historically high violent crime. My adolescence was not easy, economically or emotionally. There were many times that I wished it would all end. But I certainly dreamed that I would get out and survive.
Sorry -- I'll try to be less dramatic as that appears to be a trigger for you.
Edit: actually I take the sarcastic apology back -- you don't know what me or anyone else has struggled with...depression, addiction, watching multiple friends take their own lives. That's cool that you can't imagine thinking the things I expressed but fuck you for saying I'm dramatic because I did. The world would be a better place if more people were honest about their struggles, instead of having the fear others would minimize or ridicule them if they did.
I wish only happiness for you. I hope you've arrived at a place in your life where you can allow yourself to dream of a fulfilling and satisfying future.
They’re playing the game. If they announced Fall dates right now I would probably bail on a show or two this Spring. I wouldn’t be the only one. That said I can’t imagine they announce the fall shows after Pittsburgh 2.

Yup. Although the likelihood of those including Boston or NY shows are minimal, I would gladly give up my FLA tix for like a Hartford show, or even Montreal/Quebec.
Yeah, I'm thrilled to be going to 3 shows this spring, but it definitely puts a hit on my wallet. If I knew there were fall dates, I might space them out a little more to make it easier financially. And yes, I'm aware I don't HAVE to go to any shows, but this is my favorite band that I grew up with and it means a lot to me.

Same. Though tbh it would be hard for me to give up a show or two.

what game do you imagine they are playing? If you bail on a show that you already paid for tickets for, that is zero loss for them. The tickets marked in the pj premium level at this stage are not likely to sell much more than 5-10% of them. The only valid reason for them not to announce fall tour dates, if they are going to have any, is to space out the cost because the scarcity of their shows drives fans to travel to see them.
That's the argument I give my family/friends when they give me crap for flying all over the country to see them. This is something that brings me happiness and excitement and it won't last forever. I want to soak in as much of it as possible and create lasting memories. I can't wait for them to come to my state every ten years or I would have only seen them a few times. Of course these are the same people spending money on frivolous things. At least my travels have a purpose and better my soul, haha.
I’m fortunate and have been to a lot of PJ shows and they’re still my favourite band to see live…but…I honestly don’t care nowadays about shows I’m not at.
Shorter shows, I’ve seen ever song I could want, busy with other priorities. I agree, I still go when I have a chance but nothing happens now that gives me FOMO for shows I’m not at.
I’m also way past rescheduling/missing other stuff at home that’s important to me. If a PJ show works with my schedule, great, if not, I’m probably not missing anything I haven’t seen before.
I also don’t understand at this point people creating financial ruin for themselves travelling to see concerts. I can’t imagine enjoying a concert enough for it to be worth it to incur debt. I caused some waves in another thread questioning someone that said they went into debt to see shows this coming spring and got piled on with, “ya people can do what they want with their money!” Well, if you’re paying for a tour on credit cards, lines of credit it isn’t really “your” money.

I have fomo for the big shows. Saturday night in Philly last year. Small venue in Florida and Friday night in Pittsburgh this year.
By “the game” I mean that they know their fans are traveling for shows. Would Pittsburgh be this tough if they also played Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo and/or Toronto? PJ still gets paid but they may want to do right by the promoter unfortunately.

Promoters would rather they play where the fans are, and sell out a bigger tour up front, instead of this piece mealing of dates. PJ significantly limits the number of shows per leg, which is understandable given how long they’ve been touring. But they also often….do not disclose a full tour or a second leg….which most other bands usually would. This drives up the amount of traveling on the aggregate for their shows.
The game is … since they love playing small towns, this strategy enables near guaranteed sellouts in small markets. Wasn’t this obvious last year when the NE was announced at the beginning of the year? They are definitely gaming the system and playing the demand.
In the old days…bands would play NY or the NE in general double other areas. But now, we have the same tour dates in TN, Pitt, NC and NY.

I'm right there with you HHV as I've seen 28 since post-covid.
I try my best to see as many as I can because I don't know who's gonna last longer: ME or PJ.

I do not travel as much or get to as many shows as I used to, but if Pearl Jam is playing within 100 miles, I do not miss it. Even if it is only one show.

I have regrets about plenty of shows I could have traveled to, but didn't.
I shouldn't have stuck to just the local shows so much early on.
