If we don't support the dwindling number of newspapers still doing the work of holding powerful people to account, we will truly be fucked. We're probably fucked anyway because people increasingly get their news from unreliable sources or from algorithms feeding them what will engage them the most, but mass cancellations of newspaper subscriptions will hasten our demise.

    It is very hard for independent outlets to marshal the kind of resources it takes to do investigative journalism of the depth and breadth of the major outlets. Independent outlets can't afford to have people covering local, state and federal government, not to mention to deal with the litigation that can arise out of these investigations.

    The veteran reporters at WaPo, for the most part, have retired, resigned or taken advantage of buyouts. What they invest in as it relates to journalism is “human interest” or “fluff” pieces that don’t impact our daily living. Sure, it could happen to you but chances are, it won’t. Meanwhile, you, general you, subscribe as you watch authoritarianism be implemented because that “news source” you trusted, is owned by a billionaire with an agenda to personally make more money for themselves. No thanks.

    WaPo aside, it’s too late. The revolution will not be televised but it will be ugly.

    I have subscriptions to WashPo and WSJ.  I have no intention of cancelling so long as the reporting stays straight.  Where the editorial direction goes, I'm less concerned.  

    Regarding the minerals deal, nothing about it being secured with Europe, but in negotiation.  Ukraine is still willing to do deal with the US though.

    The US is in a proxy war in Ukraine and Ukraine is getting destroyed as a result of it along with a lot of death. The people of Donbas had an election to become independent and the US staged a coup. Besides WW2 when was the last time we were involved in a war and the country turned out ok?
    Two questions for you:

    1. Do you believe the Ukrainian citizens are against this war (think Kiev, Karkhiv, Dnipro, etc, not Donbas)  and would prefer to be a vassal state of Russia?  Or do you think they want to be independent, therefore they are fighting a war?  Remember the Russians have pushed well past Donbas and wanted Kiev.  So don't act like this is just about Donbas.  If it was, the Russians could have just fortified the east exactly like they did Crimea.  

    2. Why do you think that a region in a country can just vote to make themselves independent?  Would we allow that to happen?  Would Canada allow Quebec to break-away?  In what world do you live in where that could happen?  Yes Donbas is primarily Russian speaking, but that was because of the massive emigration over the past 30 years.  If they want to be Russian, go back to Russia.  Ukraine should not ever just let them secede, and then take up arms against Kiev.

    It's just amazing how you can think this way without drawing any comparatives to the rest of the West and how it/we would react to these very situations.  I might remind you that no...we would not let a region just secede.  Let me know if you need the exact situation where that was attempted.

    I'm Ukrainian.  My father was born in the Ukraine.  My proper last name is Rosul.  My father was Mykola Uilyam Rosul.  

    You don't have a fucking clue about how Ukrainians think and feel about independence.  Don't patronize us about Ukrainians being slaughtered. Half of my family was lost in Holodomor, murdered by the Soviets in Moscow.  

    You don't give a shit about Ukrainians.  If you did, you'd understand why they can never be subjugated by the Russians again.  They can end the war and cede territory for security guarantees, and that's what will happen.  But they will not and cannot rollover. 
    One million people dead. Ukraine is getting wrecked and people are dying and being displaced. You have to come to the negotiating table.

    I am in disbelief of how 95% of this fanbase has become pro war. You all fell for the propaganda. We forced Ukraine to do our dirty work. This is like the middle east wars except now we are using the people of Ukraine. I cannot believe most of you want US boots on the ground to turn this into WW3. You should all be embarrassed.
