Jim
Jones, head of the food division at the Food and Drug Administration,
has resigned, according to a source familiar with the matter. The
division is tasked with ensuring that the country's food supply is safe,
overseeing inspections and recalls.
Jones' resignation comes after the Trump administration last week cut thousands of federal workers, including some who worked at the FDA. The source didn’t provide a reason for Jones' resignation.
In an interview with Stat News
later Tuesday confirming his resignation, Jones said the firing of 89
people in the food division effectively dismantled the group.
“I’m
not sure if it’s a lack of understanding of how things get done, or
it’s that there’s really no seriousness about what they want to get
done,” he told Stat. “I don’t know. But I didn’t want to spend the next
six months of my career on activities that are fundamentally about
dismantling an organization, as opposed to working on the stated
agenda.”
It’s unclear whether Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was sworn in Thursday,
has an immediate replacement for Jones. Kennedy met with HHS staff
Tuesday morning as part of a welcome ceremony, according to a second
source.

Welcome back to The Jungle. What era is it, again?
White students in rural Pennsylvania created a group called the “Kool Kids Klub” (KKK), wore Confederate flag clothing, and told a Black student to “go pick cotton.” The US Department of Education investigated the Norwin School District for failing to protect Black students, but now Trump has halted civil rights investigations at the department.

Good luck with that. The amount of time it takes to receive it might correlate with who you voted/vote for. Choose wisely.
People are getting their refunds already. I get weekly reporting on it. The volume is just starting to pick up.
What do you think happens when 6000+ employees get terminated this week? Do you expect the volume to continue to pick up?
You did see the part of the article that says:
The IRS will retain several thousand employees deemed critical for processing tax returns, including those involved in supporting and advocating for taxpayers, one source said.

supposedly those fired were brought on late in 2024 and were to be auditors....also, most of the refunds are automated via efile. If nothing triggers a review most returns will just fly through

I must have missed it as it came after this:
Those fired include revenue agents, customer-service workers, independent specialists who hear appeals of tax disputes, and IT workers, the sources said.

It’s so heavily automated, I would be really surprised if there was an effect on refunds.
“And IT workers.” Can’t imagine firing a % of folks who ensure IT functionality would have any effect on a process or organization heavily reliant upon same. But that’s just me.

Leader of FDA food division resigns
Jim Jones, head of the food division at the Food and Drug Administration, has resigned, according to a source familiar with the matter. The division is tasked with ensuring that the country's food supply is safe, overseeing inspections and recalls.
Jones' resignation comes after the Trump administration last week cut thousands of federal workers, including some who worked at the FDA. The source didn’t provide a reason for Jones' resignation.
The resignation was reported earlier by Bloomberg News.
