Two state solution is fine, but Palestine needs to negotiate disputed lands, sign a treaty and accept temporary oversight until the prove they are interested in peace and not take rebuilding money to line the pockets of Hamas.

And it’s wrong of 47 to expect them to leave while they rebuild, although he thinks he is doing that as a favor to them since their country is rubble. They need to prove their peaceful intentions before oversight is discontinued. How did Japan respond to losing WWII? Did they lose their identity? Did they continue disputing Hawaii or did they accept temporary oversight, retain their culture and prosper?

As far as China comparisons, more dem nonsense that cost them the election…did Taiwan lose a war? Gaza did, and losing should have some consequence.

agreed....but it was Hamas that is the problem, not Palestine or "Gaza"

Hamas was not around for the 1967 invasion, when the current borders were established. The WB was used as a launching point for the 1967 invasion. That’s why some sort of a DMZ is needed. To be negotiated.

Hamas is a problem, as is Iran. A solution needs to solve both. That’s why oversight is needed. Without it, reconstruction billions will again line the pockets of Hamas. Jordan and Egypt have a vested interest in peace and should be used as examples to get them there with Palestine, if they are seriously interested in ending the bloodshed.
And get the fuck out with that bit of revisionist history of the 6 day war. Why no mention of the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty and the deaths of 34 US service members? Do you believe the US attacked Israel in 1967 and deserved everything they got? What claim does Israel have in the Suez Canal? They didn’t pay for it or give up territory for it.

A nuclear armed belligerent always gets the pass.

Does this board condone or condemn what happened at this meeting?

I’m not aware of any Palestinian schools being shot at here in Canada, but several Jewish schools have been shot at and otherwise vandalized.

For whatever it’s worth I’ll stand with anyone else disgusted by what transpired at the school board meeting.

It’s really odd how people keep asking obviously absurd questions.

Obviously all violence should be condemned.

Are you hoping for a “yes, the jews deserve it!”?

And I don’t know of any Palestinian schools. At least not here.

Speaking specifically about this meeting, there is zero details or context given in this article. It’s just a bunch of general claims of antisemitism. And I just have to say, there seems to be a very distinct pattern of “ if you criticize the israeli government, you are pro-war, anti-semite, etc”. I can’t comment in what transpired if there’s no details of what transpired.

can you point to specific posts or a vibe you get here that says we wouldnt condemn any violence or intimidation? be it antisemetic(not only reserved for jewish folks you know) or in general?

you know being critical of the jewish state doesn't fall in that category, right?

I’ve been told I’m being one-sided when I’ve made statements addressing both sides and numerous criticisms of Hamas have been ignored or downplayed (to say nothing of the justifications put forward justifying the slaughter on October 7th.

I choose to accept the statements made by the elected officials in regards to the tenor of the meeting.

Quick edit to correct a word.

I tried finding the minutes of the meeting so you could read the specifics but they only seem to publish the agenda. So we have to rely on the reporting and statements from the trustees and other elected officials.

Waitasec, how is this quote from the column not a specific to be discussed?

”Holocaust exceptionalism is what this report seems to recommend,” was one of them smears lobbed out. Another was a claim that the report is “criminalizing opposition to Zionism” and “prioritizing the comfort of Jewish people over the actual safety of Palestinians.”

Again, several Jewish schools have been shot at and vandalized. That’s not a matter of comfort.

so criticism of the report is antisemitic? this was targeting specific people, individuals or a group from a synagogue?

I never said that, but I guess the reporting that was done by an established journalist is considered fake news here.

Supported by statements from multiple elected officials who were present at the meeting.

A tabloid without the benefit of the minutes of what was actually said. Awful lot of speculation about what the speakers said and what it must have meant, i.e being critical of Zionists means you lust for the destruction of Israel. I assume you’re aware of the Israeli government’s well funded publicity machine that tries to shut down any criticism of Israel in any and all forums, from college campuses, public demonstrations, public hearings, etc. You know that, right? I’m sure you also know that Islamophobia hate attacks in Canada are way up too and nary a word on these very forums. The 8th anniversary of the Quebec City mosque attack was just a couple of weeks ago. Remember that?

Edited to add that one would need to read the report that was being commented on and reject the spin that being told to just pass it as is or otherwise you’re antisemitic. That’s not how democracy works.

I guess Guy didn’t get the memo?

Guy Tsabar, a Jewish TDSB parent and self-described anti-Zionist, called Israel a “genocidal, fascist, immoral, inhumane, vile, depraved, white supremacist state,” and ended his delegate remarks with the call to “free every square inch of Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.”

When a “tabloid” is the only source reporting on it that’s all we can go on. If the reporter has invented the quotes used then they should suffer consequences. But the quotes are supported by several elected officials.

Criticizing Israel isn’t inherently antisemetic, but ONLY criticizing Israel can very easily be interpreted as such. Just like criticizing Hamas isn’t Islamophobic, but only criticizing Hamas could be seen (and is stated here) as Islamophobic.

Am I allowed to be equally dismissive of an article from British Columbia about a municipality in Ontario, halfway across the country? How much direct reporting did the writer do, or is it essentially a regurgitation of what could be found elsewhere on the internet?

    Isn’t this game fun?

But a tabloid isn’t the only source reporting on it. There are multitudes of better reporting that offer a bigger and more informed picture. I’m still looking for the actual report so if you find a link, please share. I do have a better understanding of what the report is and how and why it was issued but I didn’t get any of that from the link you shared.

Asking you point blank: is it acceptable for a school board meeting to turn into a hatefest, no matter the target?

“Hatefest?” I’m not convinced that’s what it turned into based upon one tabloid’s description of the events and in the absence of a transcript of what was said and the report being debated. The article you linked had a lot of supposition and assumptions in it. I need more context before I’d call it a “hatefest.” Was Nazi regalia worn? Did participants shout, “kill the Jews?” Who determines it’s a “hatefest?” But in general terms, no, a school board meeting shouldn’t become a “hatefest”, whatever the definition of one is (a KKK march or those whack jobs that protest military funerals because of gays, those are “hatefests” to me).

If maga did this you’d be typing in anger for hours

    wonder why

” Many who were there Wednesday say it was more of anti-Jewish meeting than a school board meeting.

Those in attendance say the public hearing on a report before the Toronto District School Board to protect Jewish students deteriorated into more of anti-Jewish hate fest.

“The anti-Israel mob showed up in full force espousing conspiracy theories, tropes and disinformation about Israel and the Jewish community,” a disgusted Toronto City Councillor James Pasternak said.

He wasn’t alone in feeling this.

“Every self-proclaimed anti-Zionist on (Wednesday night’s) call rejects Israel’s very existence,” claims Daniel Tate, of Integrity Toronto. “I know this because I reviewed their online profiles as they spoke. Every single one had either made statements or aligned with imagery explicitly denying the Jewish homeland’s legitimacy – a sovereign nation recognized by the UN. Yet, when given the floor, they conveniently sidestepped that fact. Perhaps because admitting it wouldn’t play well in a public forum.”
