Plus I don’t think he was body shaming anyone. A women was flashing him and he told her to stop pretty directly. Something about mosquito bites.
He shamed and humiliated the woman when he could just ignore her.
It was 21 years ago and she could have kept her shirt down to. I think not their both best moments. It was funny though.

We are absolutely drowning in toxic masculinity and machismo. It's on our screens 24/7 and comes at us in all forms (ultra patriarchy, homophobia, rampant transphobia etc).

This is why I appreciate what Ed (and the rest of the band) stands for. He always despised machismo. He encourages men to remain in touch with their emotions, as nebulous and as conflicting as they often are. He has shed tears in public numerous times, opened up about his own struggles with grief. He advocates kindness, solidarity and acceptance.

This needs to be said. I hope he realizes the positive impact he has.
I think we’re drowning in toxic FEMININITY,  if anything

Not if you live in America you are not. Or based on my knowledge of humans, anywhere else

I saw that type of stuff when I saw Papa Roach in Dallas.  The camera crew went and zoomed and posted her on the big screen.  Everyone cheered, she was all smiles.  I guess there's a crowd for it :i_dunno:  Pearl Jam is def not the crowd.

  • I love how much the band speaks out against toxic masculinity and fights for women's rights.

But I think in order to move past the toxic masculinity, we need to finally convince males that it's ok to seek help and talk openly about feelings and be vulnerable. This will lower male suicide numbers (the good guys) and reduce violence and oppression against women, as well. Perhaps that is a better approach

I'm not sure if this is the most hypocritical thread I've read in a while. A few comments in the OP laments body shaming calling it shameful but at the same time bemoaning toxic masculinity.
Quick question, what EXACTLY do you define as toxic masculinity? Are all males toxic? Labelling us all as toxic IS absolutely shameful. Maybe, instead of tarring us all with a particular brush you could aim your barbs at those who deserve it.
For example, those men in Afghanistan, who, immediately after the U.S. made a deal with terrorists stopped women being educated and began their regimen of female oppression. Maybe the Iranian men too who murder women for not covering their hair to name but two.
There are plenty of what I would call  'embarrassments' to men. It's just a shame that there are equivalent women.
Maybe, just maybe we can all do better.

As someone who doesn't watch sport that comment's a bit lost on me though why watching something you enjoy is toxic is beyond me. Gay, maybe?
I mean, sweaty athletic men in shorts running around a field who indulge in a homoerotic orgy of celebration when they score a goal/point/basket isn't toxic but is definitely a bit gay . 😁

so is toxic femininity binging on vanderpump or the real housewives from atlanta?
watching sports is an example of toxic masculinity?  That's odd.

Honestly, I wish that a gender wasn't tagged to the word toxic.  It makes people naturally defensive.  I initially was excited when that Gillete commercial came out.  It's good to be aware of important issues, in order to address them.  But then I saw the comments.  A couple snowflakes, ok cool, expected.  Then more sensitive dudes posting in defense.  I was shocked.  There's THAT many fragile snowflakes?!

Toxic anything is bad.  And those defensive snowflakes should have known that health masculinity is very good (I mean we are an intelligent species for fucks sake, right?).  Strong, protective, helpful, mentor and so on...

Healthy masculinity / femininity / <insert word> is very good.
Toxic masculinity / femininity / <insert word> is very bad.

Usually the lists of toxic traits for both men and women will intersect.  Likewise for healthy.
This is all so glaring simple, and the mass public is... I'm really at a loss.  It's 2024 for fucks sake.

Humanity appears to be dumbing down.  I understand the "higher ups" in charge of everything have planned to be so.
Easier to control those that are less intelligent.
But what burns me up is that these people are willfully stupid.  Like you don't have to be stupid, because the people running the world want you to be.

    Weird post.
