Cover Song Requests and Thoughts

Been saying this for years as well. Stone on acoustic, Mike coming in with that electric lead…Hell yes. And of course the message of the song fits the band so well. I really hope they do this someday. Even just once.Crew said:"I'd Love To Change The World," by Ten Years After.
It's right up their alley, style-wise AND message-wise... probably more appropriate nowadays than ever before.
I have been saying for years that they should cover this one. I'd die happy if I ever heard this one from them!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTUsFm0BAu80 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTUsFm0BAu80

And guys, if you ever decide to do it, please do it in Philly. Thanks in advance. https://youtu.be/nUb0QaDjP78?si=DMxOtPodNTuw2JuC https://youtu.be/nUb0QaDjP78?si=DMxOtPodNTuw2JuC

I think at least a few covers are essential for the live experience and part of what makes them so special. More often than not, they do others songs better than the originals. I think two or three per show is the right number.BF25394 said:
The more, the merrier?! Surely, you don't mean that literally, or you'd be merriest with a set featuring nothing but covers.ianh42 said:
No way! PJ thrives on the covers. I say the more the merrier. I do hope for 2.5 to 3 hour sets but feel greedy saying it. If they are still banging out 2 plus hours per energy filled show while all pushing 60 years old then we will take it.BC62528 said:Just to keep this thread going...with the new setlist norms of 22-23 songs, please retire the cover songs and stick to original music only.
Put me down for no covers. The band has a massive catalog that, despite their yeomanlike efforts, still has corners that get neglected. There are some special Pearl Jam covers-- e.g., "RITFW" and "Sonic Reducer"-- that Pearl Jam has, to an extent, made their own, but even those songs have been seen and done. Give me all originals. Give me every track from the new album in the set every night. That would make me merriest.Living in a SOLAT...SJ 11/95 SD 11/95 BB 10/96 Oak 11/97 SD 7/98 LA 7/98 BB 10/99 LV 10/00 San B 10/00 Irvine 6/03 SD 6/03 LA 7/06 Fonda 7/06 SB 7/06 DC 6/08 LA 9-30 10-6 & 10-7-09 SD 10-9-09 SD 11/13 LA1&2 11/13 MIL 10/14 OHANA FEST 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021 (EV, PJ and PJ Encore 1) SD 5/3/22 LA 5/6/22 LA 5/7/22 Fresno 5/16/22 LA 5/21/24 LA 5/22/24 OHANA FEST 9/27/240

Maybe they can give Bob Marley some LOVE this tour and cover Redemption Song...I love it when Eddie sings that one. They've done it a few times, and he performed it with Beyonce at Global Citizen back in like 2015. That one is worth looking for on YouTube if you never saw it. They've done Three Little Birds too...that would be fun!

I've always been a big fan of the covers they've done historically. With that in mind, if they're going to stick with the current arrangement of 21-24 songs then I'd prefer they didn't play any covers (outside of perhaps Crazy Mary, which is basically a Pearl Jam song at this point). But, alas, it's not about what I want . Happy the band is still playing shows! 0 . Happy the band is still playing shows! 0

Good point on Crazy Mary and that's part of the point of this thread...how Pearl Jam owns these covers. Baba O'Reilly is there song as is Neil's Rocking in the Free World. Covers are better when they are rare and played for some specific reason, like a tribute or in a particular location.___________________________________________

Def agree- I actually enjoy some of the covers ive heard - although Im good if i never hear RITFW or Baba ever again. I like the idea of location - ie Manchester - would be amazing if cover one of iconic Manchester bands. Same goes with London. Just my 2 cents.JimmyV said:Covers are better when they are rare and played for some specific reason, like a tribute or in a particular location.2000 Cardiff/ 2006 Paris/ 2011 Toronto/ 2013 Chicago/ 2014 Amsterdam 1 & Milton Keynes,

With a shortened setlist I would prefer just original songs at this point. When the band was cranking out 30-33 song setlists it seemed reasonable - bottom line is it is their party - so if that makes them happy to cover Petty, Cheap Trick, or Dylan - have at it.0
