It's the one thing that does it for me, the amount of times i've had a shit patch in my life, eg close people's death and just being out on my board, laying in the sun, catching the occasional wave, thinking about life and all great things it has to offer, i could go on for days about how surfing has helped me, i think it's made me a better person, i've learnt alot of life's lessons through it, and it's made me meet people i'll never forget even though i'll never hear from again!
I don't think a lot of people have enough time to just sit there for even 15 mins and think and contemplate shit every day...I know I don't. That side of surfing would be great....just out there, relaxed, thinking.
I'm so fucking scared of sharks though it's not funny. I get to my knees and I shit myself and come back in. Most shark attacks happen at that depth apparently! We can only go in the water between May and October here which sucks.★ 1995 - Brisbane ★ 1998 - Brisbane ★ 2003 - Brisbane ★ 2006 - Brisbane ★

I wish I knew how to surf
I'd love to learn but I'd feel like a dick going to a surf school with little kids. I'd feel like Billy Madison0 -
i speak on my own here but surfing is exactly the same as walking the dog, mowing the lawn, cleaning the house, you don't think you have time for it, but there is always time. I work three days a week, have uni 4 days a week, party 3 days a week, and i always find time for at least 2-4 surfs a week, even if it's just one shitty wave, just the satisfaction does it for me.ZiggyStar wrote:I don't think a lot of people have enough time to just sit there for even 15 mins and think and contemplate shit every day...I know I don't. Fuck em mate, everyone is always learning to surf, Kelly is still learning to nail moves, ask MR and he'll say fark i did this thing the other day wooo, the more surfers the better, i hate those pricks who despise learner surfers, you were a learner once to mate, get over it, give them a couple of tips, just like the older generation did for you, pass down the secret of surfing.Oz Jammer wrote:I wish I knew how to surf

Mate....I haven't been on a board since I was about 18 now
But I can tell ya right now when we move back to the coast I'm back out there....weather I make a dick of myself or not.
The boys are going to Surf school at Secret Harbour and they can't wait.....I'll just watch Doug (their teacher) and pick up some refresher tips

SORRY! I re-read what I wrote and it was wrong -- I meant to stay that I don't think people spend enough time for even just 15 minutes sitting there thinking --- and I personally don't spend enough time doing it myself. That's where surfing would be good because it forces you to have that alone time to think.
I agree that people can make the time to do stuff....but I struggle finding "myself time" to do shit like meditate or just sit on the couch in silence and think. I work walk the dogs at 6am, go to work by 8, walk the dogs after work at 6.30, suddenly I'm cooking dinner then I'm working again at night. And Leigh and I are rarely apart so quiet "me" time for even 1/2 hour is very very rare which sucks.
Reflection and contemplation is a necessity in life. You can get lost if you don't take the time to sit back and think.★ 1995 - Brisbane ★ 1998 - Brisbane ★ 2003 - Brisbane ★ 2006 - Brisbane ★

I was just saying that for myself surfing is like a daily activity, but not daily, a couplaweekly activity, like going to the gym for some or what not. But when shit does get in your head and you want time to think it's a great way to give you that time! 0 -

Also, worrying about sharks is similar to saying what about snakes when walking through your yard! Snakes kill, sharks kill, snakes on land, sharks in water. same thing. you still walk on land...0 -

Hate sharks, hate snakes, hate crocodiles....bad bad BAD!!!! And unfortunately, we have plenty of ALL of them right here in North Queensland!!!
LOL at evil dolphins! ha ha

At least getting eaten by a shark is a 'cool' way to go. Being bitten by a snake is a bit wussy

so then after looking at it for a while i decided i better take it's head off to put it out of it's misery.condescending and sarcastic since 19800 -
I think that's another reason I stay up so late after the kids have gone to bed....it's really the only time I have to myself....not having to work or anything......just me with my thoughtsZiggyStar wrote:SORRY!
