The only problem I think i'd have starting off learning to surf is the duck dive. How the fuck can you get both yourself and the board under the wave without getting your head smashed or being flipped and dragged 10 feet back by the wave?

Haha, hear i go again, Learning to surf isn't about the duck dive mate. My dad has been surfing since he was 13 and he still can't duck dive. There are other ways to get under a wave.
Duck diving is simple, push the nose of the board down with your arms, in a sweeping fashion, like a knife carving through butter, followed by your knee pushing your tail of the board under the water, natural floatation of both you and your board shall pop you up the other side no worries. :D

Get MR to show you....it's not as hard as it looks :)

Seriously Rob....next time you speak to MR mention to him that you'd like to have a bash at surfing....I reckon he'd love to take you out and show you the ropes. He'd be an awesome teacher!!! You don't get out there to impress people....you're out there for the sheer enjoyment, so don't worry bout making mistakes. Who knows??? You might be a natural!!!! :)

Couldn't have said it better. Surfing is about surfing, who gives 2 hoots about how good you are, as long as you are out there having fun, thats all that matters. Give it a go, the more people who discover surfing, the better. No matter what those whinging people say about overcrowding.

You could have expressed it as: "I thought to myself 'What did he win'?"

I doubt there'd be a better teacher than the master but I hate asking him for stuff. I'd prefer to just learn by myself at some secluded spot and just learn from my mistakes.
One place I wouldn't go to is this place - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LebBRGS8hLY

1km north of Newie beach
