maybe they could also do a show for 17,000 deaf people... and while their at it, do and acoustic set of all Peter, Paul, and Mary songs!

their newsest record is fucking wicked, I dont think theyve lost it at all, I just think they are getting complacent, cause the set lists I read look like the same ones I was readin in 2000, 2003 and 2005. Ill see em any chance I get, but i have a bad feeling the last show I see of them is gonna be a bab YL love in and I think they can doi so much better. They play some cool stuff, but need a major shakeup and cut to pride/return to exciting form by playing smaller shows casue obvioously theyed lose the fanbase who comes to hear half of ten every summer.

you're not alone the entire east coast got slighted in 06 with god awful setlists.

it is quite obvious that they made a change in strategy with the last record and its promotion, they want to become more mainnstream again cuz recordsales decreased. that is a development that for hardcore fans like us who stayed faithfull during binaural and riot act ... this development is not cool for some of us. I dont like to hear 'alive', but this is were they are going. And its ok for Mohab to critize it.

I totally agree, and I am glad that not all fans are blind. you're absolutely right about the change of strategy, and I am pretty disappointed by this and other things. Of course they are still one of the greatest bands in the world and I am still in love with them, but this doesn't mean that everything's all right... Personally, last Pearl Jam album was a big disappointment to me and I am quite worried that the band is getting into a blind lane... look at what happened to Chris Cornell!!! His last album is a shame, to me he's basically over... and the point to me is, is it fair that artists like him or pearl jam reach such a big "selfesteem" as to think that whatever they do is just great? I mean, is it "artistically" acceptable? is it honest? is it a good excuse to sell out and lose your artistic path? to me it isn't.

So the band promote their music? They even made a video, the b*stards. Doesn't necessarily mean they sold out. The video for Life Wasted can, methinks, be seen as a) art and b) a way to bring the band's message to a wider audience. No shame in either.

Also the band's last album is, in my opinion, their most mature (for obvious reasons) and artistically most developed. The lyrics are poetic, the criticism visible and deciphered at the same time. It's no crime for the band to say they like it.

ok, maybe I am just a too old nostalgic fan.... but by "sell-out" I wasn't referring to PJ, but to Chris Cornell. I don't think they're sell-outs, but I am afraid that if they keep on this way, they may get to that. About the album, I am not saying the album "sucks", I can't say that the songs and lyrics are ugly in any way, I just think they repeated themselves, I can't see they have developed artistically, but on the contrary I had the feeling they were to a point to say "ok, we're pearl jam, now we can afford to make a song that sounds like U2 and another one that sounds like the beatles". This is the feeling I had, and I am not saying it in any malicious way, for me it was a real shock and disappointment. Obviously, I don't demand anyone to feel the same........

My favourite band used to be U2 -- I've seen them 15 times since 1985.

I have loved PJ since 1992 but for some rather depressing reason I never went to see them until last year ---- bought every album on the day of release etc etc.

I would say Pearl Jam are the greatest live band I haveseen simply because you never know what you're going to get....

I do agree that they often finish with YLB but that's about it. Pearl Jam hardly stop touring...

U2 and other bands can take four years between tours --- and then their sets are the same (in song content) night after night after night.

For what it's worth, I find Pearl Jam so exciting and so fresh because they have stayed the same but with lots of wonderful songs....of which they never really "drop" any.

Exactly...U2 are great live, but you know what you're getting going in. The same is true with 90% of the other major acts out there. Not Pearl Jam. It's one thing I never thought I would see them criticized for. Maybe in 10 years, but not now.

Am I the only one who doesn't care what they play as long as I'm seeing the band live?? I've been to 11 shows...best show I ever saw was Ottawa 05 and if you check the set, it is the perfect balance between greatest hits and obscurities. I don't judge a show on a setlist, it really is the summation of the experience: set, performance, crowd, and my own personal mood.

I've never been disappointed. I'm just a Pearl Jam fan who goes into each show with an open mind preferring not to hear Evacuation, Insignificance, and Leatherman :-)

Ive been to Ottawa aswell, and I thought that was the best show ive seen. but it was only my 3rd back then. Now, after 13 shows, I can only say that each show is special in its own way. its not only the setlist, the crowd, the band, but how you see it, your perception, and how you feel that day...hope it makes sense. of course its all the things listed, but i think each person is their own judge, if I can put it like that

No u' re not...I just don't think about the setlist before show(s). Normally, i also have some favorites, but if they don't play some of them i won't be dissapointed or somethin' like that. I'm just happy that i saw them. And if they play some of mine favs, it's like a lottery jackpot to me. And seeing most other bands setlists, makes me much more happier because every PJ show is unique one, no doubt about that...
