Honestly, I was not happy when EV added the Earthlings to the lineup after the announcement/ticket sale.

EV wants a new band and wants to promote it to his fans and PJ fans, I get it. The Earthlings album is fine and the covers they choose to play are great. However, Pearl Jam is still an active band, they just played last week, and it is odd that Earthlings shows seem like a glorified cover band of Pearl Jam at times. EV could play complete shows of his material or The Earthlings without an issue, so why cover Pearl Jam songs while the band is actively touring?
Hunger Strike... it was good but, that song, that album, that whole thing is about Andrew Wood and Temple of the Dog. Stone, Jeff, Mike, Matt, Chris, Ed, etc. NOT The Earthlings. Andrew Watt sounded good and all but that band is not really worthy of just throwing that song in rotation. EV was in the process of telling a story about Taylor Hawkins and then cut it short to fit in Hunger Strike, it was odd. No dedication to Chris or Taylor or any discussion on why they played it.

I am sure people will not agree with this but I think some will.

I 100% agree with this and it gives me weird vibes. Most of the PJ songs were Ed penned I believe. I as well do not like the idea of Vedderfoot playing PJ songs though, like if they did Evenflow, Black (which they have done) anything written by another member...it's like where are the PJ lads? This isn't Pearl Jam. I honestly think I would be more okay with them doing more covers then dipping into Non-Ed written PJ catalogue.
I saw Jakob Dylan many years ago and it was billed as Jakob Dylan back when he was doing an outing with his own solo work. And there was this person next to me just wanting them to play One Headlight , and surprise they didn't play it. They played a song off Bringing Down The Horse (Three Marlenas) but not the Wallflowers biggest hit. And that was a conscious decision. Because it wasn't the Wallflowers, it was Jakob Dylan and Co.
Now at the end of the day it is ED Ved and the Earthlings , and he can call the shots & it's a fine line. And who knows maybe if other PJ band members get a cut of whichever songs they played that they wrote maybe it's all good.
I just posted about the Andrew Watt Hunger Strike issue. Let me know what you thing!

Ed Vedder, the lead singer of Pearl Jam, sings Pearl Jam songs with different musicians and it’s considered a cover ?  Ed and the same musicians aren’t worthy of playing hunger strike? Weird.
So Boom should be able to play whatever Pearl Jam song he wants with whomever?

Is that really a serious comment? Someone is suggesting that Eddie Vedder can’t play Pearl Jam songs whenever and wherever he wants? That’s beyond absurd.

For my money, I love the Earthling shows. I thought last night was fantastic, though the band definitely had some rust and was probably in need of more rehearsal that they didn’t have time for.

Not what I said. You're not understanding it from a songwriter/ownership perspective. Pearl Jam songs are PEARL JAM songs. Not just Eddie. Eddie didn't write all the Pearl Jam songs.  Chances are your favs were written by someone other than Eddie. :|

Ed wrote RVM, I Got Shit, Lukin, Porch, Hungerstrike is a Temple song, so they are his songs tbh. Dirty Frank fits with Chad’s drumming style.
Not having Glen hurt with his solo stuff like Society, or Without You. He played no Into the Wild.
On the flip side, people would be so pissed if Wd played NO Pearl Jam songs…..
Andrew Watt rocked. Privileged to see him play with Ed.

  • Ed and earthlings rocked. Saturday was awesome.  I’ve done Ohana since 2017 I think. What I noticed this year was the absence of Ed through out the festival. In the past it seems like he pops up surprisingly throughout. This year he opened then did a song with Stevie. That’s it. Any other “ long time” Ohana folks notice that?

I’ve been a 10C member for 30 years. Please tell me
more about who wrote the songs.

Which doesn’t even matter anyway. Any artist can play any song they want at a show as Pearl Jam demonstrates all the time and to say that Eddie can’t play his own songs or a song written by Stone or another band member is not only absurd, it shows a complete misunderstanding of the art in general.

PJ fans will always complain.  Complaining about seeing Ed at Ohana is like saying my caviar was fishy.
EDIT: Seeing Ed COVER Stopping Dragging my Heart Around with Stevie Nicks would have made my weekend.

been to every Ohana. This time was a little off. Just different to me anyway. Highlight was Billy Strings, Jack White. Both killed it. Was stoked to see Earthlings open with RVM. They almost had to do something strong after the two acts previous. Sound was off in some songs, but hey, they probably didn't get much rehearsal. Anytime you get to see Ed is special, doesn't mean every time is the shit though. Maybe just a little spoiled after seeing them multiple times over the last year being for CA. Hoping for next summer, but not counting on it. Did I mention Billy Strings?

I noticed the same thing. A buddy of mine commented that the festival this year was a little different. Almost like it “jumped the shark”.  In the past years it was all about EV and the bands that he liked or had connection too. Previous opening bands for PJ or artist EV would tour with from Glen to RHCP. That made collaborations seem to happen almost every set. This year was not that way.
His set seemed to mirror that environment, getting upset with the lighting, the crazy lady, and so on.
Hopefully it was just an off year because this festival has been an amazing thing over the years.

I just find it wild that folks were in attendance at this show - RVM opens and they're upset about it lol... or Hunger Strike is played, sounds amazing and they don't enjoy it because they feel it gives off a "bad vibe" or they're surprised they're playing Pearl Jam songs and upset about that...

    talk about privilege...

Get over it... it's music... enjoy it. be happy

Haven’t been fortunate to attend an Ohana yet, but this article lauds the lineup/wknd and the performers’ reverence for Ed.  (For any that saw the other bands I’d love to hear who else gave props).

People seem to notice him every time he was watching and took pictures with him his family from like super far away.....little weird methinks.
