taxation, health care, climate, being big ones. Even their immigration positions were no where near trump for example. Plus they weren’t all religious nuts
I’ve seen some of the nationalistic stuff in Sweden with the immigrants they are accepting so I’m wondering how much that is driving the right and is it a single issue. Will a conservative coalition government actually implement a racist platform from their fringe? Or will it fall apart and there is no majority coalition
19 percent racists is probably less than the US if all the racists are voting SD. Not that having less racists would be anything to be proud of as it’s still a lot

SC can answer that better than the rest of us.

I don't now if you can make a direct linear comparison, and also both the left and right wing adjusts their politics for where the country are (in all countries) and the right would move further right if possible I imagine.
But I mean, no party in Sweden stands by fucking up the right to abortion. No party stands by a death penalty. No party wants to remove public healthcare. As of now.
I did not vote for a right winged party at least. But I would not be surprised with them winning tonight.Post edited by Spiritual_Chaos on"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
The latest poll. Before the actual results tonight.
The Green Party and The Left Party usually overperforms in polls. And the racist right underperforms. So yeah. Dicey.

So far the ”red and green” left is in the lead, after 1600 districts counted:

In Sweden of all places. WTF is going on in this world? Is democracy really doomed?
I never thought I'd live to see this happening. So much for thinking, right?

The traditional right wing sees themselves as "liberal" (but has moved further right in recent years, and would move further right if they could). They have taken "anti-immigrant" stances this election to snag voters from the racist right. But it is not crazy in the way republicans are in the US.
But in general:
- They want to privatize healthcare
- They want to further private schools and have stock companies be able to to make profits/dividends(?) from tax payers funds who funds our schools, including the private ones.
- They want to pull back on the fight against climate with the idea that "green tech" will come and solve everything. While the left, based on science, says we need to drive less and change our lifestyle/way of living.
- They want to lower benefits, employee-based insurance etc with the idea that everyone is a cheater who doesn't have a job, or can work
- They want to cut back heavily on immigration and force language tests on people and such.
- They want to give the police/justice system further rights by removing rights of the citizens.
In this election the big debate issues has been:
- Immigration/segregation. The right want to lower immigration to the absolute minimum accepted by the EU/Global community. While the left believes it is ethically important to help people in need. Even with the left also pulling back on the amount to help, post our generous actions during the Syrian crisis.
- Immigration/gang related crime. Both the right and left want to (obviously) curb the rising numbers of crimes and gang related crimes - connected to segregation. The right focuses solely on sentencing using the line "danish sentences for Swedish crimes" (guessing the Danes have harsher sentences) while the Social Democrats has used the line "for every Swedish krona we add to the police, at least one Swedish krona have to also be added to social services etc to prevent young kids falling into crime".
- Climate. Has not been debated very much (sadly). But the right focuses it all on "new tech will save us anyways" and "nuclear power will solve it", while the left have tried to not talk about the life style changes that has to be made (thinking it will alienate voters).
- Gas prices. The right wants to just cut them and have people drive. The left (The Green Party at least) want to keep prices to curb driving, but instead help out people in rural areas being depended on the car to get tax benefits.
-Energy prices. Bot the left and right want to shield us from to high prices this winter. The left has called them "Putin-prices" while the right named them after the (former) prime minister neglecting these prices not being isolated to Sweden.
- Welfare. The right wants to cut taxes which will affect our welfare systems, and also lower things like employee-based insurance if being unemployed. An old tactic by them to "force people into taking jobs" they believe people are to lazy to take if they get an insurance of 80% of their wage, or are to sick to work.
But, the problem here is not that the Conservatives, The Christian Democrats and the Liberals are forming a government. They governed together as early as 2006-2014. The problem is, that there has long been a "common ground" in keeping the "racist" party The Swedish Democrats away from power. But this election, even after promising an Auschwitz survivor that it would never happen, the right has folded and are in cohorts with the Swedish Democrats. A party that among other things - wants to stop fighting climate change "because it is the US, India and China that has to stop polluting - not us" and "a few degrees warmer up here, would only be good", they want to scale back our foreign aid to the absolute minimum if not remove it completely, they do not care about the Paris Agreement, they have had over 200 people with former ties to neo-nazi/anti-democratic organisations on their list of people to put into Parliament in this election etc.
Sweden was the last Nordic country (I am pretty sure) to keep a party like this at bay and away from power - with obvious complications in Parliament and the governing as a result. So a party accepting them and letting them in to power was perhaps unavoidable, with them growing in each election (being the second largest party in this election) and wasn't a problem that would go away.
How will it affect me? I imagine I might get lower taxes, and them giving the police the right to frisk immigrants at a whim or not helping out people fleeing for their life's will not affect me directly. But I wish we would have had a Parliament that wouldn't allow a party born from neo-nazis and I wish we wouldn't have a population (and parties) who look past that - or doesn't even care anymore.
Also, I believe that a society should be built with a strong backbone owned by it's citizens (through taxes). As in healthcare, schools etc. I do not believe in the whole of society being a market economy based on competition (instead of cooperation), and citizens being customers when getting healthcare and a product to have a high margin on when going to school.

Are there still neo-nazis in the party? Democrats in this country were born from slavery, but that was 200 years ago.
Also is NATO an issue, or is every party on board with joining NATO and condemning Russia? Or is there a pro-Russia faction?0 -

The Swedish Democrats was founded by people being connected to "neo nazi" organisations in the late 80s. But even in this election, an investigation found that 216 people on their list of peoples for Parliament had attachments or has had to anti-democratic/neo-nazi organisations.
And I mean, common sense dictates what is theater and what kind of people they attract with their "sole" topic being immigration as the root to all evil. I think they even blamed racism on immigration in this election. And there has been a lot of racists shit said by people connected to their party through the years. Like a hell of a lot.
All the right winged parties are pro NATO. The Swedish Democrats (who are full on cosnervative/Sweden first and only sweden) was against it, until this election when they wanted to be a part of the right winged coalition. So they changed their mind.
On the left, The Left Part and (I think) The Green Party was against joining (on these hastily grounds at least). Mostly because of Turkey and that country not being considered democratic. The Left Party was heavily attacked when they voted No to sending arms to Ukraine, basing their decision on the long standing Swedish tradition of not selling weapons to parties in active combat. But they changed their mind on that after criticism.
Everyone condemns Russia. But the Swedish Democrats leader had problems in an interview to pick between Biden and Putin. And the left tried to make that stick as them being pro-Russia.Post edited by Spiritual_Chaos on"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
