Smashing Pumpkins - Starla The masters of quiet/loud and controlled feedback and this song displays both at the highest level. Billy Corgan is an absolute guitar genius.
John Prine - Paradise This is one of three songs on my list that I’ve been hearing my entire life and have grown to love. My dad recently passed away and JP was his favorite of all time. He was a professional musician and this was a staple cover my entire life. I love it.
Kyuss - Gardenia I probably could’ve picked any song from “Sky Valley” but chose this one. Josh Hommes guitar sound on this record is insanely good. Love the tone and tuning.
Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison #2 of songs my dad covered ever since I can remember. I know my dads voice singing this more than the original.
Pearl Jam - Blood Crushing guitars. Pounding drums. The best EV voice ever for me. My favorite PJ song
The Band - The Weight #3 of the mentioned earlier. My dads favorite record of all time…music from big pink. Possibly my favorite song of all time.
Rage Against The Machine - Freedom I don’t want to get into how much this song means in todays times. Loved it since day one.
Led Zeppelin- Thank You Do I need to explain this one? Just one of the greatest songs ever. Beautiful song construction.
The Doors - When the Musics Over The opener from Live At the Hollywood Bowl version is magical. This is another one I could’ve picked from a bunch of different Doors songs.
Radiohead - The Bends The guitar work on this record is absolutely insane! Another one I could’ve picked from several songs but the bends is fire
Jimi Hendrix - Vodoo Child Pearl Jam - Smile James Gang - Walk Away Smashing Pumpkins - XYU Roger Miller - King of the Road Beatles - Happiness is a Warm Gun

Some days I could easily add...
Ramones, "Beat on the Brat"
Ian Dury and the Blockheads, "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick".
Lou Reed, "Vicious"
Hit meeeeeeeee!

Great list! Totally agree about Starla! They have so many great epic songs, but that one has got to be the best. Love it. Recently discovered John Prine, and he is amazing as well. Sorry to hear about your dad. That is tough. My dad passed away suddenly about a year and a half ago. It is great that you have the songs as a connection!

Thanks. It was sudden with my dad too. Love seeing Starla on your list as well. As far as John prine I highly recommend his self titled, Bruised Orange and Tree of Forgiveness
Pearl Jam - Given To Fly I want this to be the last song played at my funeral, it's just perfection.
Violent Femmes - Blister in the Sun (honorable mention to Add It Up too)
Shouting it out and dancing round like I've got the zoomies.
Blind Melon - The Pusher
Not my number1 BM song, but this one gets me pumped.
Fugazi - Waiting Room Great for angsty days
MC5 - Kick Out the Jams
Does it need explaining why?
The Who - Anything off Quadrophenia
See MC5
Cat Power - I am a Map
Woman power perfection
The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset
Just feels so good
Pixies - Velouria
Another one that just feels good to let loose
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Cities in Dust
Another one that gives the zoomies
Honorable mentions
The rest of Yield
AiC Would & Don't Follow Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus U2 - Bad and Running to Stand Still
Screaming Trees - Nearly Lost You
Great list! If I had to name one favorite PJ song, I think I too would say "Given to Fly'. So good! And very cool to see a nod to Fugazi.
I could’ve easily put some Fugazi on my list too. In on the kill taker is so damn good!
Cheers guys! Yeah several Fugazi were in the reckoning, but I figured most have heard of Waiting Room. The PJ list is... extensive 🤣 Forgot Jane's Addiction & Wellwater Conspiracy in honorable mentions!

I'm surprised The Weight isn't on more lists. It's one of those songs that is covered by EVERYBODY.
