I'm surprised The Weight isn't on more lists. It's one of those songs that is covered by EVERYBODY.Abe Froman said:Smashing Pumpkins - Starla
The masters of quiet/loud and controlled feedback and this song displays both at the highest level. Billy Corgan is an absolute guitar genius.
 John Prine - Paradise
This is one of three songs on my list that I’ve been hearing my entire life and have grown to love. My dad recently passed away and JP was his favorite of all time. He was a professional musician and this was a staple cover my entire life. I love it.
 Kyuss - Gardenia
I probably could’ve picked any song from “Sky Valley” but chose this one. Josh Hommes guitar sound on this record is insanely good. Love the tone and tuning.
 Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison
#2 of songs my dad covered ever since I can remember. I know my dads voice singing this more than the original.
 Pearl Jam - Blood
Crushing guitars. Pounding drums. The best EV voice ever for me. My favorite PJ song
 The Band - The Weight
#3 of the mentioned earlier. My dads favorite record of all time…music from big pink. Possibly my favorite song of all time.
Rage Against The Machine - Freedom
I don’t want to get into how much this song means in todays times. Loved it since day one.
 Led Zeppelin- Thank You
Do I need to explain this one? Just one of the greatest songs ever. Beautiful song construction. The Doors - When the Musics Over
The opener from Live At the Hollywood Bowl version is magical. This is another one I could’ve picked from a bunch of different Doors songs.Radiohead - The Bends
The guitar work on this record is absolutely insane! Another one I could’ve picked from several songs but the bends is fireJimi Hendrix - Vodoo Child
 Pearl Jam - Smile
 James Gang - Walk Away
 Smashing Pumpkins - XYU
Roger Miller - King of the Road
 Beatles - Happiness is a Warm Gun0

This song would've made a great instrumental but as it was its just a great song period that I must play at least twice.

This is one has grown on me after the first time I heard it. Now I have play it on repeat until I learn these lyrics. Great words here Scott W......HEARTLANDI got a smile on my face, it's a beautiful day
I smile to the world, I smile to the day
 And ain't nothing wrong, I can't complain
This love is so strong, from playing this gameNothing but love here, in peace and harmony
Nothing but love here, it's our destinyI just need a cigarette, lord help me breathe
 I ain't got a lot of regrets, still I can't sleep
So what you wanna do? What else can I say?
I hope it's not true, but you're so far awayNothing but love here, in peace and harmony
Nothing but love here, it's our destinyThe day will come, maybe not for a while
I can give you my world, we can share in a smile
Let me tell you like it is, it's all a man can really do
Close your eyes, and these words will come trueNothing but love here, in peace and harmony
Nothing but love here, it's our destiny https://youtu.be/AfvY2ojfrCQ?si=7Da9lazTATx_EzSk https://youtu.be/AfvY2ojfrCQ?si=7Da9lazTATx_EzSk

In no particular order. Not all of these would be on the list of my top ten favorites but something about most meet the criteria of the thread
Alive - PJ. Will always be the one for me for PJ. From the opening riff to the end love every second of it. Still can play it over and over and never tire of itTime - Pink Floyd. From the clocks in the beginning to the very end to me is my favorite non-PJ song. Music rocks and lyrics are spot on.
American Pie - Don McLean. Loved this since a kid. Probably the first rock or pop song I loved.
Just Like Heaven - The Cure. Just a really cool and fun rock song that makes me smile.
Jump Around - House of Pain. Infectious beat.Lips Like Sugar - Echo and the Bunnymen. Takes me back to a simpler time. Young with no responsibilities. Great new wave pop
 song
These Eyes - The Guess Who. Always enjoyed the song and when I hear it brings me back to a specific time and place that I will always recall fondly
Alison - Elvis Costello. Always makes me think of my high school crush of the same name
Summer Nights/You’re the One That I Want. - Grease soundtrack. Going to cheat and count these as one. Songs that put a smile on my face. Just pure pop magic.Friends - Elton John. Makes me appreciate all my current friends along with making me recall fondly old friends who have passed on or who have lost touch with.0

Nice! I have a friend who wants a copy of Elton John's Friends on CD. I thought I would buy her a copy- must be tons of them out there, right? But, no! Only available on vinyl LP or cassette. I was astounded.
