It's optics. But the pressure from both parties on the topic was hard to resist, particularly if it doesn't make a difference to our production.myoung321 said:

So this is fake news? Includes oil to the strategic reserve, which wouldn't go to refineries. Although since some was released, I guess it will be.myoung321 said:

Refineries make actual GASOLINE and other products.. trading oil is not the same..
I can only tell you what I saw personally in my 30 year career with a major oil company's Pipeline and Logistics Dept. We controlled all US pipelines in and out of every refinery in the US for that Company ...

December '21 shows almost 8 million barrels being purchased as "unfinished oil" and almost 3 million as "crude oil." If said oils are for the strategic reserve, then some of it was recently released and refined into gasoline. The chart below is in "thousands of barrels." Add three zeros to the number.myoung321 said:

Bottom line: Suspending US imports of Russian oil will hurt Putin and his war. Refining Russian oil in the US doesn’t put a single ruble more in Putin’s war coffers. Also, here’s a brief lesson on how trading markets work from Seth Klarman.Seth Klarman tells a story about sardines disappearing from their traditional habitat off the Monterey, Calif., shores, causing commodity traders to bid the price of sardines up to soaring levels. Then, along comes a buyer who decides that he wants to treat himself to an expensive meal and actually starts eating the sardines. He immediately gets ill and tells the seller that the sardines were no good. The seller quickly responds, "You don't understand. These are not eating sardines; they are trading sardines!"I SAW PEARL JAM0
