  • Cincy, so every time there is a recession and jobs subsequently come back, the president doesn’t get credit?

This was a specific strategy to do it differently than Obama did in 2009, then it took nearly forever for the jobs to come back. The 2021 strategy was to try to get them back much quicker, which is supported by the jobs report.

Also, the economy has changed significantly since March 2020. Here in the northeast office buildings are nearly empty and the workers, mostly those under 40, never want to come back (same in California). All the feeder jobs, lunch spots, shoe shines, coffee on the train in, suits and biz casual clothing, could be impacted forever. To see the 2021 job growth considering these facts is actually stunning.

It all depends on the cause of the recession and the cause of the comeback.

In this case the government literally shut things down resulting in lost jobs and just opening back up resulting in job gains…and we aren’t even neutral. Not arguing if any of that was right or wrong. But in reality, the reason for the job gains was the virus and then the vaccine. So no one should be hurt for the job loss politically and whomever worked for the vaccine should likely get some credit…

It amazes me that people “never want to come back”… maybe we could stop with giving away free $ (and way overdoing it).

By far the best thing Biden did got shut down by the Supreme Court…utilizing OSHA to try and protect workers thorough a vaccine mandate. Was tough politically but it was the right thing to do. So do me, ironically the best work of a president sometimes he fails at. But I give credit where it is do and that was a ballsy, bold and correct move.

Correct. I pointed out yesterday why they must tout these gains. The Fox crew was giddy in anticipation of a bad number. They have to tout each and every success possible to change people's perceptions of the economy heading into the midterms.

If it’s just the number in a vacuum then surly you give Trump credit for not having as many Covid deaths than Biden when president?

Right and this thread is about Biden and Biden is pretending that his base to compare jobs to was normal.
I am not sure what this sentence means.
New jobs being up cause stuff was closed has very little to do with Biden at all. The base he is comparing against was really low Jobs when things were closed
What was closed in December that opened back up in January?
Oh man…you know jobs that were lost between march 2020 & today are coming back….do you really not understand?
Yes I completely understand. The growth was for one month. Not from March 2020

Ok but they are touting the numbers because they didn't expect these numbers. Regardless of whether we are back to level or not the unemployment rate is 4%. These numbers are good....no way around that. If there were job losses that would not be good.

we're  also in the midst of a shift of how people choose to be employed,  along with employers paying more for what used to be 9-10 an hr jobs. truck stop employees hiring in at 18 hr and frankly they deserve every fucking penny if not more. and the list goes on.

I wonder how much credit Biden gives to the governors of states that removed all sorts of restrictions….and I wonder at what cost of human life some of these job numbers came from…

Anyhow, I understand your point and just fundamentally disagree that it is anything to really celebrate. Once back to base…then it certainly would be. And as you say at least it isn’t a troubling sign.

It's absolutely celebration worth for the economy to have added jobs during the last three months, with Omicron raging.  I don't understand how you can be so cynical about what is so clearly good news.  You can pick around whether Biden gets all the credit or not.  And all of us have said that presidents get too much blame and too much credit for the economy, but considering he has shouldered ALL the blame over the past five months, a little reprieve is warranted.

And let's not forget about the blowout GDP year we had.

The original lockdown did exactly what it was designed to do, slow the hospitalizations and deaths until treatments can be determined and keep hospitals from overflowing. There has been a lot of heat lately thrown at “lockdowns” but anyone having doubts, examine the NY death curve. Spring 2020, before masks and distancing, it was vertical, since then, horizontal.

Biden determined the Obama recovery approach was too slow, it took over six years to recover the Great Recession job losses and that led to wage stagnation. The Covid job losses are almost triple that of the Great Recession. So if the Biden recovery were at the same pace as Obama’s, your chart would show the jobs recovered by 2038. Pretty solid job by Biden and the Dems.

A pandemic presented far greater challenges yet this recovery is much faster, by design. For that Biden and his party should be rewarded, yet they will not, partly because democrats are not unified in messaging and belief.

@Meltdown99 just you know, you follow a known White Supremacist.  You might want to change that (or maybe you don't).  https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2020/07/08/jack-posobiecs-rise-tied-white-supremacist-movement

And the only one over bowing to China is Putin.  Ironic, eh?  Your boy, the one you believe should be able to take whatever land he wishes, is the one paying homage to Xi for the Olympics.  Putin and Xi came out with a unified statement on NATO. The US has sent no diplomats, by contrast.  Maybe you should stop living on social media and get on the right side of this fight.
