the democrats will find a way to fuck this up. suddenly the threats to primary manchin and sinema do not look too appealing. looks good in the short term, but this may come back to bite the dems if manchin and sinema do not support the nominee.

i fucking hate politics. all of it.

Why would Biden pledge to nominate an African American woman when there are ethnic groups that have never been represented on the SCOTUS?

On the matter of greatest needs for justice, here are a few thoughts.

    On needs for legal justice:

    On needs for economic justice:

African Americans are far from being represented enough in light of relevant facts.

To add to the very real needs of the Black community, it's common knowledge that the Black community is a massive percentage of the Democratic voting cohort. With midterms elections later this year, if the already-slim Senate majority is lost, Biden will have extremely little luck helping anyone - including the Asian and African-American communities. Frustratingly, the game of politics forces opportunism as a short-term strategy to win long-term goals.

So are you saying that Asian representation shouldn't matter at all because there are more African Americans?

I understand why these facts are important but what would an African American woman be able to do for the black community more than any other person from an ethnic group? My point is that there are ethnic groups that have never been represented. I thought diversity was a goal.

Not necessarily....but follow the questions here

You: Why would Biden pledge to nominate a AfAm woman?
Me: Is there another group making up more of the population
    You: Asians are third.....

Correct answer would have been "No"

  • I just don't get why he does this. He did the same thing with when he was picking a VP. Just pick a black woman if you want to. If you say it ahead of time, you look like you're picking the person based on their race, rather than because of their merits and regardless of race.

I'm talking about whenever he said it, whether on the campaign trail or just today. It'd be better for everyone, especially the person he nominates, if he just nominated them without any mention of their race. I was too young at the time to recall, but I doubt George Bush made any reference to Clarence Thomas being black.

It'd be funny if a republican president someday did the same thing, and appointed a conservative black female to the court. I can hear it now.....

Tucker Carlson: This is a great appointment. Someone chosen based purely on their merits!

Joy Reid: She may be black woman, but she's vessel for white supremacy!
