Yeah, but they were all people who had to hold down 2-3 jobs to make ends meet

Now they're just down to 1 job and side-hustle to put food on the table
That's fair if that is how it was assessed.

No kids so I don't get any relief...

Real talk.  If the getting is good for the worker now and all of these lower paying jobs are unfulfilled, should we open up the flood gates to new immigrants to take them or hold steady and see if the ship corrects itself?
  • Didn't 4,00,000 people quit and walk off their jobs though?
Voluntarily left to work a better job, work one job or not at all. They chose to leave on their terms, not laid off. Economy allows them. Those poor companies paying and treating people like crap. I really feel for them.

immigration reform is critical.increase the numbers allowed in by policy/law and   include those here already. both asylum seekers and those who have overstayed their visas.

straight border jumpers are already working or are caught and in process for deportation.

    lol

This is what bugs me about the unemployment discussion.  How much unemployment is the 'right' amount?

Unemployment comes in multiple forms: cyclical, structural, and frictional.  And it's not necessarily 'good' or 'bad'.

There's many ways that unemployment can be good.
For example, if people can afford to take time off to find a job they like more.
Or if technology replaces workers to make a business more efficient (is this good or bad?).
Or if competition causes one company to succeed, while another company fails and has to lay off it's staff (good or bad?)

    If it's 4 days a week I'm good w that.

Another thing to consider right now is that over 700,000 are dead. I am sure a lot of them had jobs, right?

Also I would assume a lot of older folks said "fuck this" and retired a few years earlier because they didn't want to deal with the health issues of going back into the office or were unable to adjust to working from home.

Either way, the jobs numbers this year are damn impressive.

(retired people don't count toward unemployment rate)

We discussed the 700K dead.  Most were older or retired.

I am for the lack of workforce though.  It gives the power to the workers and that is a good thing.

It’s not just the dead. It’s folks who contracted covid, survived and have permanent, long term disabilities. Can’t walk a flight of stairs without stopping, constant pain, etc. Those are majority working age. How many of those were/are employers, business owners?

     Good point.

If they were business owners then the workforce isn't effected either considering their business is gone and wouldn't need workers anymore though.

Can anyone find the number of people w long-term Covid effects that aren't working?  Is there such a chart?  It would be interesting to know.
  • Congressional Research Service Report on covid and unemployment but not those who contracted, survived but are unable to work. I heard an NPR MarketPlace piece that there are 1,000,000 disabled workers due to covid. I'll see if I can find it or more information regarding that type of stat.

Just curious JB, what should Biden have done this year to prevent inflation?  What economic levers were available to him that were not pulled?

I can't begin to speak on this because I am not educated on the subject. I don't fully blame Biden for the inflation we are seeing but there had to be something that could've made a difference. The buck stops with him and the issue isn't getting better, only worse.

My point is that Biden is driving  and hyping up electric vehicles which most people could never afford. Meanwhile, gas prices are through the roof. Electric vehicles may be the future but most people still rely on gasoline and the rising price of gasoline must be addressed and fixed.

JB must have loved Bill Clinton. Gallon of gas was under a dollar during the late nineties. Something tells he didn't love Bill Clinton though...
