i didn't hear anything 'wolf' about it. i just listened to both arc and wolf to make sure i wasn't missing anything...it was ALL arc hearing it soundchecked earlier in the day gave me goosebumps, and then hearing it inside, with the lights turned down, with ed sitting to the side just wailing away...moved me to tears. that had to be one of the most moving vocal moments i've ever seen.

sweet god how i loved it!

the whole show was absolutely beautiful and seeing ed feeling as moved as we all were was wonderful. so much emotion in that room! i can't wait for the shows in berkeley to experience it some more

and definitely for those who haven't seen liam yet, be sure to not miss his set...ass kicking kiwi!

That's why he put the thing in his ear, I will put money he was listening to The Wolf to be able to put it over Arc. He could easily get Arc over Arc without anything in his ear. Great show last night!

Just a few thoughts I haven't seen mentioned. They were handing out programs at the door. It looks like a Broadway playbill and says “Sniper” in yellow at the top. I think you had to be there relatively early to get one. It has the siloutte pic of Ed on the front. Inside is lots of info about Into the Wild, WM3, Body of War, Liam Finn. It also says the tour is dedicated to Evel Knievel.

Liam Finn was great. He broke his snare drum and brought it to the side. I think EJ asked if he wanted her to give it to him and he said, "No I want to make a spectical of getting it." At another point he accidently said "Santa Fe" then corrected himself. In one of his songs he sung part of "Dear Prudence". Great performance, I was totally mesmerized. Bought his cd about an hour ago.

When Liam was out there was a drum kit to the left and Ed’s stuff was in the back covered. I went to the bathroom after Liam, and when I came back the curtains were pulled. Tuolmne was played over the speakers as the curtain opened.
Walking the Cow was great. I don’t know if I have ever heard that song before. Great opener and I had chills, probably from being 5th row from the stage (Thanks 10 Club!)

He played “Man of the Hour” on ukulele. Sounded great. The sound there was amazing. Then he told the long story about ordering room service and said he was going to play some songs where there was no room service. Then went into the Into the Wild songs. Someone had yelled for No Ceiling earlier and he pointed to the ceiling as if to say, yeah there is one. When he played it a few songs later, he forgot the lyrics at the end of the first verse. I think he stopped right before “my heart will never be far from here.” Then he said he tried to give the guy a present but it was broken. He said it was a short song so he would start it over and nailed it. There were a couple of people around me who yelled the lyrics out for him when he stopped. “Guaranteed” was one of the highlights for me. No mistakes, sounded amazing. Millworker was also great. Spot on.

Before “Chicago” he said it was a song about how he lost his gf and job in the same day. He let the crowd sing some of Hide your love away and it sounded like everyone was singing along. For “Forever Young” he asked that it be made darker. There was only a light near his suitcase still on as he sang it. Also one of the suitcases was open and had black cardboard with white paper glued on it with lyrics written on it to some songs. One I saw was “Won’t Back Down”.

Before Happy Birthday, he tried to get the crowd to practice saying “McCready”. He was also smoking a cigarette when the curtain opened on the first encore and I could smell it. Made me realize how nice it was not to have smoking in the building. Also I bought a bottled water for $1.50! Before Lukin he said the next 2 were campfire sing-a-longs. He said he would play the first sing-a-long as long as everyone promised to sing to the second one no matter their political beliefs. My vote for the Arc/wolf controversy intro was that it was all Arc, but I could be wrong. It sucked that the guy yelled out “Let’s Party” right before Arc. Not that anytime would have been good to yell that out. Arc is cool from a technical standpoint and the meaning for those who died, but I would prefer a regular song.

It was cool to see the world premiere of a song, but trust me, no one is missing anything. It was nice for SC, but it’s nothing to write home about.

I wish I had not looked at the Vancouver setlists because I knew almost everything that was coming. I wish I had the willpower to stay away from this board for one freakin' day!

So maybe this is the uketar (the one that appeared on the 2007 holiday single)?

Did anybody else up close get a good look at this thing?

I wasn't sure what the instrument was either but Man of the Hour was definitely one of the highlights for me. Between Bridge and other shows I've heard this song live quite a few times and honestly haven't gotten too excited about it in a while but Saturday night reminded me of the first time I heard it. Beautiful.

and I'm STILL reeling! What a fucking awesome nite......like you've already reported, Ed was amazing, spot on, all instruments in perfect tune, his humor, his opening act Liam and EJ were wonderful and I thought a rare treat (too often I find opening acts NOT good!) so that was cool! We had 5th row seats, close enough to see those smiling eyes and dimples!! While I live about 25 minutes north of Santa Cruz, his song about the town was incredible and moving.....thanks to those of you recalling some of the lyrics....very sweet. I lost a days wages to be there and I certainly don't regret it one bit! Seeing a few special girls, (shout out to Dolly and Lyd from Momma!!) was just that, SPECIAL!!!! All in all, my FAV day/nite of the year so far!!!!
